Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 152: Island Royale 21Come to think of it, the environment of this isolated island was exceptionally favorable, practically an ideal breeding ground for snakes.
"I found some killer ants on the far west side of the island. They’re five times the size of normal ants and secrete a fatal toxin that can kill prey hundreds or even thousands of times larger than themselves within minutes."
"So you think the next danger we’ll face will likely come from those killer ants?" Amber Sheridan asked.
"More than that."
If it were just killer ants, they wouldn’t be much of a threat. After all, no matter how big they were, they were still just ants. If they hid in the water or took to the sky, the ants wouldn’t be able to touch them.
"Whatever. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. The most important thing now is to find and eliminate the remaining players," Amber Sheridan said. "By the way, how many are left?"
As he spoke, Amber Sheridan looked at Perry Yates.
Perry Yates blinked, a shocked expression on her face. ’Hey, why are you looking at me? I don’t have a Heavenly Eye, how would I know how many people are left?’
After a moment, Perry Yates answered reluctantly, "There should be twelve people left."
This was information she had just received from the plants.
Of those twelve, eight have already become Hunters, meaning only four regular players were left.
"There are still that many left? Looks like our matched teammates this time are useless. Usually, things are almost wrapped up by now."
As he spoke, Amber Sheridan shook his head in exasperation, thoroughly dissatisfied with the current matchmaking.
"We’ll take care of the rest tomorrow," Evan Fuller said.
Amber Sheridan nodded. "Got it, Master Ford. Little Perry and I will go tomorrow. It’ll be faster with two of us. After all, when a guy and a girl work together, it’s not work at all, right?"
Perry Yates: "..."
’Hey, did you even ask me?’
「The ninth day of the game.」
Early that morning, Perry Yates was dragged out of bed by Amber Sheridan.
"Hurry up! Once we take care of those guys, we have more important things to do back here. Otherwise, I’m afraid we’ll run out of time."
Perry Yates shot him an annoyed glare, then quickly located a Hunter through the plants.
Of the twelve remaining people, besides the four who were still normal, the rest had all become Hunters, whether willingly or not. After passing the first stage, they hadn’t rushed to hunt the Croupier. Instead, they planned to hide and quietly power up, waiting to evolve into their final form—the third stage—before unleashing their true strength.
Obviously, Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan had no intention of giving them that chance.
The first Hunter Perry Yates found was hiding in a cave.
The entrance was blocked by a large boulder and camouflaged from the outside. You wouldn’t have noticed it without looking closely.
"Are you sure there’s something in there?" Amber Sheridan asked.
Perry Yates didn’t answer. She just crossed her arms, her expression clearly saying, ’Believe it or not, I couldn’t care less.’
Seeing this, Amber Sheridan rubbed his nose and turned to face the cave. His black eyes instantly flashed gold.
The boulder blocking the entrance trembled slightly, followed by the sound of something sharp piercing flesh and a blood-curdling scream from within the cave.
"Let’s go."
With a confident smile, Amber Sheridan turned to leave with a cool flourish.
"Aren’t you going to finish it off?" Perry Yates reminded him.
"No need."
A confident smile played on Amber Sheridan’s lips as he spoke, clearly certain he hadn’t missed.
’You know, there’s a reason why villains in novels always end up failing.’
’In a situation like this, you always have to secure the kill.’
Seeing that Amber Sheridan had no intention of finishing the job, Perry Yates flicked her fingers. Countless vines erupted from the ground, pushed aside the boulder blocking the entrance, and dragged the half-dead Hunter out of the cave.
The black scales on this Hunter’s body had begun to peel away, replaced by grayish-black wolf fur. Now, however, the fur was stained red with blood, and the creature was on its last breath.
Seeing this, Perry Yates felt no mercy. In this game, it was kill or be killed.
She clenched her hand into a fist. As she did, the vines binding the Hunter tightened violently. In an instant, the near-death Hunter was crushed into a fine mist of blood.
When Amber Sheridan saw this, the way he looked at Perry Yates changed. ’What a vicious woman.’
After that, with Perry Yates leading the way, the two of them continued to hunt down the Hunters.
...
"This is the last one, right?" Amber Sheridan asked.
"The last of the Hunters, yes," Perry Yates replied without turning back.
As for the others, the four remaining players were hiding near the lake Perry Yates had discovered earlier. For some reason, she didn’t want to get too close to it.
Even though the vines she’d left behind, her Spiritual Body, and the Water Lotus in the lake had detected nothing unusual over the past few days, a woman’s intuition told Perry Yates that it was not a good place. It was best to stay away.
"You know, there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to hide around here."
Amber Sheridan scanned their surroundings. There were no caves, no burrows, not even any tree hollows. He couldn’t spot any suspicious figures in the canopy, either. For the first time, he wondered if Perry Yates had gotten the location wrong.
"Who says there’s nowhere to hide?"
Perry Yates pointed to the ground. Then, a red poker card appeared in her hand.
As she tossed the poker card, it vanished the instant it touched the ground. Immediately after, the earth began to tremble slightly.
Seeing this, Perry Yates pulled Amber Sheridan up onto a nearby tree branch to avoid getting caught in whatever was coming.
The trembling of the ground grew more intense. Cracks began to spiderweb across the once-solid earth. Soon, the ground began to churn violently from below, like boiling water.
"What a waste. A Skill like that, and you’re not a farmer."
Amber Sheridan stared at the freshly tilled earth, thinking, ’If she were clearing new land, she could probably get through dozens of acres a day with this.’
Hearing this, Perry Yates shot him an exasperated look.
The ground continued to churn. After about five minutes, a smear of black appeared in the roiling earth. Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan recognized the familiar black scales in an instant.
The black figure was still struggling in the dirt, trying to escape, but Perry Yates wasn’t about to give it that chance.
Several thick, waiting branches, each as wide as a bowl, shot toward the black figure in the dirt, easily ensnaring it and wrapping it tight.
