After receiving Perry Yates’s message, Evan Fuller quickly used Space Grass to arrive at The Card Tavern.

To prevent their sudden appearance from arousing suspicion, Perry Yates had set the exit of the Any Door inside a private room on the second floor.

Since this was their first transaction, Evan Fuller treated it with great importance. He came personally, bringing Amber Sheridan with him.

On the first floor, Sylas Sawyer watched the two people walk down from the second floor and immediately became vigilant.

The Card Tavern was bustling, but not many patrons had the means to go to the second floor. And he clearly remembered that these two weren’t on the list of people who had gone upstairs today.

’If that’s the case, where did they come from?’

The aura they exuded was particularly intimidating—an inner strength that radiated outward, a presence unique to the powerful.

Of course, Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan noticed Sylas Sawyer sizing them up, but they paid it no mind.

They had agreed on three ground rules when they first started cooperating with Perry Yates: First, they were never to reveal her identity. Second, they were never to reveal their own. And third, without her permission, Evan Fuller’s group was not allowed to leave The Card Tavern or Phantom Street.

Perry Yates was still soaking in the hot spring, so Evan and Amber simply found a place to sit.

Three large screens were mounted high up in The Card Tavern. The two on the sides displayed the types of cards sold that day, while the one in the center showed a livestream.

The livestream was, of course, showing the Heavenly Ascension Ladder.

"Tsk, tsk... To think this place even has cards that can awaken abilities in ordinary people. I really underestimated her."

As soon as they sat, they activated their booth’s soundproofing to prevent anyone from overhearing them. Even so, they avoided mentioning Perry Yates by name.

"Master Ford, do you think this ability of hers is a Card Ability or a Talent?"

Evan Fuller mused for a moment before replying, "It’s most likely a Talent, and a very high-level one at that."

’Only a Talent like that could allow someone to grow so quickly from an ordinary player,’ Evan considered, ’and to gain the system’s recognition and become a Croupier Player in a year—no, it must have been within six months.’

Amber Sheridan thought that made sense. His gaze then shifted to the center screen.

The three screens had been there during their last visit, but there hadn’t been any sign of a livestream. That meant the stream had been set up recently.

The screen showed a livestream, but the content was incredibly dull. It was just someone climbing a staircase at an excruciatingly slow pace.

Several minutes had passed, yet the person in the stream hadn’t even managed to climb a single step.

"Master Ford, something’s wrong with the person in this stream."

"No," Evan Fuller said calmly. "The problem isn’t the person. It’s the staircase."

However, given their unique status, they couldn’t just ask someone about it. That would easily arouse suspicion, especially from the server who had been furtively watching them ever since they arrived.

With this in mind, Amber Sheridan directly summoned the butler.

Perry Yates had told them previously that they could ask the butler if they had any questions.

"How may I be of service, guests?"

The butler appeared before them in a flash. His tailcoat was immaculate, and the smile on his face was perfectly measured—friendly, yet maintaining a subtle distance.

Amber Sheridan pointed to the screen above. "What is that? What’s the person on screen doing?"

"That is the Heavenly Ascension Ladder. The person you see is, naturally, climbing it," the butler stated matter-of-factly.

"Why climb it? What’s the point of this Heavenly Ascension Ladder? Is it an item?" Amber Sheridan pressed.

The details about the Heavenly Ascension Ladder weren’t a secret, so the butler answered truthfully. "Its full name is the Thirty Thousand Heaven-Ascending Ladder. It is a five-star item. Anyone who successfully climbs to the top can have any wish granted by the Ladder."

At his words, both Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan were visibly stunned.

They knew five-star items were powerful, but they never imagined one could be *this* powerful.

’To grant any wish...’

"Can it truly grant *any* wish?" Amber Sheridan asked.

The butler maintained his serene smile, speaking in a calm, measured tone. "Theoretically, yes. However, whether or not the wish is actually granted is ultimately up to the Master’s discretion."

Theoretically, the Heavenly Ascension Ladder could grant any wish. However, as its owner, Perry Yates held absolute veto power.

Just as they were speaking, Perry Yates finally came downstairs.

She walked straight over to Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan’s table and plopped down into a seat.

Seeing Perry Yates, the butler thoughtfully brought her a glass of milk.

Perry Yates took a sip of the milk, licked away the resulting mustache from her upper lip, and asked, "What were you guys just talking about?"

"Can the Heavenly Ascension Ladder truly grant any wish?" It was Evan Fuller who asked this time.

’I thought they’d ask about the cards first,’ Perry thought. ’Didn’t expect them to be interested in the Heavenly Ascension Ladder.’

So she nodded. "It can."

"Even if the wish is to destroy the world?" Amber Sheridan asked.

Perry Yates nodded again. "It can. But I wouldn’t let someone like that reach the top."

"To display a five-star item so openly... aren’t you afraid of others coveting it?" Evan Fuller asked.

"Scared? I’m terrified. That’s why after bonding with the card, I leased it to an entity that absolutely no one would dare to covet."

"Who?"

Coming from a planet that had nearly been thrown into a world war over cards and players, Amber Sheridan couldn’t imagine who such an entity could possibly be.

’Logically, as Croupier Player 001, Perry Yates is the most powerful player on all of Cerulea. In theory, there shouldn’t be any faction more powerful than her.’

"The government," Perry Yates said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

Amber Sheridan hadn’t expected such an answer. For a moment, he was utterly speechless.

"Let’s look at the cards first."

At this, Perry Yates laid out ten cards in a row: six four-star Skill Cards and four five-star item cards.

Looking at the ten cards—some glowing red, others gold—Amber Sheridan’s eyes lit up. Beside him, Evan Fuller’s breathing quickened, and the way he looked at Perry Yates changed entirely.

Amber Sheridan reached out to touch them, but Perry Yates stopped his hand. "Settle the balance first."
