Meeting Perry Yates’s gaze, Amber Sheridan pulled the remaining payment from her pocket.

After accepting the payment, Perry Yates stopped blocking them. She retracted her hand, gave the money to her butler, and said, "The usual."

The butler nodded respectfully. "Yes."

After receiving the cards, Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan didn’t linger in The Card Tavern. They turned and went back to their private room on the second floor.

After all, they needed to distribute the ten cards, so the sooner they got back, the better.

Before leaving, Evan Fuller glanced at the fighting ring outside and said, "Could we send some of our players here to compete in the arena?"

The interval between game rounds was thirty days, and during that time, all players had to disguise themselves as ordinary people.

But, as everyone knows, showing off is human nature. When you gain an Extraordinary Ability, you can’t help but want to use it. This is especially true for those from the lower rungs of society who have always struggled, and for the arrogant children of the rich and powerful who are used to getting their way.

Even with a figure like Evan Fuller keeping them in check, he couldn’t possibly manage every single detail.

Hearing this, Perry Yates thought for a moment, then nodded. "You can. As long as they follow my rules and you pay me, it’s fine."

After settling on a time, Evan Fuller arranged to send the first group over in a few days.

After the two left, Sylas Sawyer materialized behind Perry Yates like a phantom. "Boss, mind if I ask who those two were?"

Perry Yates turned. "Didn’t you already have the Survival Game Administration look into them? What, you came up empty?"

Sylas Sawyer gave an awkward laugh. He hadn’t thought his subtle inquiries would be discovered.

"That’s because I couldn’t find anything out."

Sylas Sawyer, showing no sign of embarrassment, pressed on. "So, Boss, who are they really?"

"You’ll know when it’s time for you to know," Perry Yates said with a smile.

Given the delicate relationship between ordinary people and the players under Evan Fuller’s command, Perry Yates had no intention of exposing his identity. At least, not yet.

Seeing that Perry Yates wasn’t going to say more, Sylas Sawyer didn’t press the issue. He knew that even if he kept asking, he wouldn’t get the answer he wanted and might even earn her ire.

Meanwhile, after seeing off Evan Fuller and Amber Sheridan, Perry Yates returned to her fifth-floor workshop.

She walked over to the box containing the Wood Attribute Cards and took one out.

It was a White Card. The face of the card showed a Cannibal Flower, similar to the ones in *Plants vs. Zombies*.

She then took several more Wood Attribute cards from the box. Without exception, they were all White Cards, and every single one depicted a carnivorous plant.

Perry Yates placed these cards into the Card Furnace.

Since they were all White Cards, the fusion process was very quick, requiring only a few hours.

’Has the Card Furnace’s efficiency improved?’

Perry Yates thought to herself as she watched the Card Furnace at work.

The cards for Evan Fuller and his group had been completed several days ahead of schedule.

A few hours later, the card fusion was complete.

The level of the fused card hadn’t changed.

Perry Yates glanced at the card. The result was about what she’d expected. The Carnivorous Cards had merged into a single new card, and the plant depicted on it had mutated.

"So ugly."

Perry Yates couldn’t help but critique the fused card’s appearance. It looked like some grotesque hybrid.

But this wasn’t over yet. Perry Yates took out a Moon Attribute card and a Sun Attribute card.

Since these cards were just to provide attributes for the first Wood Attribute Card, she only needed one of each.

After another few hours of waiting, Perry Yates held the card that had just come out of the furnace.

The original one-star card had now become a two-star.

Seeing this, Perry Yates stroked her chin, lost in thought. ’It seems it is possible for a card’s level to increase directly through fusion.’

However, the probability of such a direct increase was low—minuscule, even. Otherwise, in all the time she’d had the Card Furnace and with all the cards she had fused, it would have happened more than just twice.

The first time had only resulted in a Half Star increase, so she wasn’t sure if that even counted.

’Forget it. No use dwelling on it.’

Perry Yates took the card out of the Card Furnace and began its Ascension.

However, just as Perry Yates had Ascended the card to three stars, the alarm at her house suddenly went off.

Perry Yates had no choice but to stop what she was doing and use the Any Door to return to her home in the outside world.

Through the peephole, Perry Yates saw a face that was at once familiar and strange.

The face was familiar because it bore the distinct features of the Alden Family, yet strange because she had never seen this person before.

She opened the door to find a thin young man standing outside. Beside him was an equally frail little girl who looked to be about seven or eight.

As they looked at Perry Yates, the girl’s gaze was timid, while the boy’s was filled with a desperate, all-or-nothing resolve.

"Come on in."

Perry Yates let them into the house and poured each of them a drink before sitting down across from them. She crossed her legs and asked, "Who are you? What’s your relationship with the Alden Family? And what do you want from me?"

Although her past difficult days with the Alden Family had left Perry Yates with a poor impression of most of them, she wouldn’t take her anger out on others indiscriminately.

"We... we’re the children from the third household. My name is Philip Alden, and this is my sister, Tina Alden. We came to ask you... to please save us."

Hearing their names, Perry Yates immediately knew who they were.

The "third household" referred to her third maternal uncle. And these two were his illegitimate children.

If Perry Yates, the direct granddaughter, had it so hard in the Alden Family, one could only imagine the life of two unacknowledged, illegitimate children.

As for her third uncle and his wife, they were even worse. One was a beast in fine clothes, the other had the face of a saint but the heart of a viper.

You had to admit, the two of them were a perfect match.

When she had last returned to the Alden estate, her first and second aunts had come out to curry favor and make their presence known, but her third aunt and uncle were nowhere to be seen.

This wasn’t because they didn’t want to show up; it was because if they had, Perry Yates would have dealt with them without a moment’s hesitation.

The couple seemed to know this and had never dared to approach her.

"What’s going on? What do you want me to save you from?" Perry Yates asked.

"They want to destroy my sister and me completely."
