Noticing this, Perry Yates took out a thermometer. The display read twenty-eight degrees, and the temperature was still rising slowly.

Seeing this, she guessed it was a feature designed to keep players from slacking off.

After all, while the place was small and enclosed, it was also safe. With enough food, surviving for fifteen days—let alone thirty—by just holing up should be no problem.

With that thought, Perry Yates took out a digging tool.

She scanned her surroundings, observing the six walls—up, down, left, right, front, and back—and pondered where she should start digging.

She tried using her X-ray vision to see if she could penetrate the dirt walls, but it failed.

To her eyes, the dirt walls seemed to have no end to their thickness. Seeing this, Perry Yates gave up on using her X-ray vision and, trusting her gut, chose the wall on her right.

"Men to the left, women to the right. You’re the one."

Because of what happened before, Perry Yates had thought the wall would be difficult to break through. But unexpectedly, the digging process was incredibly smooth. In just a few hits, she had opened a hole in the wall.

And as the hole was breached, the entire wall collapsed like a line of dominoes, instantly turning into a pile of dirt. At the same time, the scene on the other side of the wall appeared before Perry Yates.

The moment the wall vanished, Perry Yates clearly felt the air temperature drop significantly. She glanced at the thermometer hanging from her waist.

The temperature had already fallen to twenty-five degrees. It seemed her earlier guess was correct.

On the other side of the wall were no powerful beasts, but a field of brightly colored mushrooms, looking utterly magnificent.

Seeing such a beautiful sight, Perry Yates’s first reaction was to activate her Protection Suit. As if that wasn’t enough, she also took out a mask and put it on.

The mushrooms themselves weren’t scary; what she feared were the spores.

If any mushroom spores entered her body with her breath, it would be a disaster.

After taking these precautions, Perry Yates used Identification on the mushrooms inside.

Unsurprisingly, all of the mushrooms were poisonous. Eating them would, at best, cause hallucinations; at worst, it would be instantly lethal.

The moment Perry Yates stepped past the wall, the wall behind her instantly reformed. Seeing this, she had no choice but to face the room full of poisonous mushrooms.

The safest course of action now was obviously to leave. They were poisonous mushrooms, after all. Even with her protective measures, being with so many of them made her heart pound in fear.

However, just as Perry Yates tried to approach a wall, the mushrooms nearby suddenly sprayed countless spores. The instant the spores hit the ground, they began to grow, and small mushrooms even sprouted on Perry Yates’s clothes.

Seeing this, Perry Yates brushed the mushrooms off her body. Gazing at the ever-increasing number of mushrooms around her, she narrowed her eyes. The next second, a hammer as tall as a person and formed from dirt appeared in her hands.

Perry Yates lifted the hammer high and then brought it down hard. Instantly, countless mushrooms were smashed to a pulp.

As they were smashed, they once again released innumerable spores. But this time, Perry Yates was prepared. She took out a vacuum cleaner and sucked all the spores into it.

Following a flurry of smashing from Perry Yates, ten minutes later, she had finally cleared out all the surrounding mushrooms.

In the process, Perry Yates also discovered a type of mushroom that looked very familiar: an oyster mushroom.

However, it only looked similar to one. In reality, it was the most poisonous of all the mushrooms, bar none.

Looking at this plain, harmless-looking mushroom, Perry Yates thought for a moment before packing it into a backpack.

With the mushrooms no longer an obstacle, Perry Yates began digging into a wall again. This time, she chose the western wall.

After successfully digging through, she found that the other side of this wall wasn’t dirt, but rock. In the middle of the space stood a stone table and a stone stool. On the table were a teapot and a teacup, the pot filled with steaming hot tea.

Perry Yates used Identification on the tea and learned it was just ordinary tea. She then placed the teapot back where it was.

’I have plenty of food and water. I’ll leave this tea for someone who needs it more,’ she thought.

She checked the thermometer. The temperature had dropped again from the previous twenty-five degrees, now reading twenty-two degrees.

She felt the air and thought the temperature was just right.

Still, Perry Yates decided to dig one more time to see what might appear in the next cave.

Because this wall was made of rock, digging was a bit strenuous for Perry Yates. It actually took her a full half an hour to break through.

The other side of the wall was piled high with all sorts of bizarrely shaped stones. Seeing this, Perry Yates decisively gave up on the idea of crossing over.

As the wall reformed, Perry Yates returned to the stone stool.

The good news was that even though she had chosen to give up, the temperature still dropped. It was now eighteen degrees, a direct drop of four degrees.

Feeling the chill in the air, Perry Yates decided to wait a while before making her next move. After all, too hot was a problem, but so was too cold.

Perry Yates yawned.

This place had no sunlight, which meant no day-night cycle. It was easy for one’s sleep schedule to become disordered.

However, Perry Yates wasn’t bothered by a disordered schedule—hers wasn’t exactly normal to begin with. What she cared about now was how to tell the time.

Perry Yates glanced at her wrist.

She had taken her watch off earlier while in a hot spring and never put it back on. Eventually, she had forgotten about it completely, only remembering when she entered the game and wanted to check the time.

She searched through the cards she carried with her, but there were no watch-like items.

Seeing that she couldn’t find the item she wanted, Perry Yates simply gave up the search. She would be teleported back naturally when the time was up, anyway.

As for the time until then, she would just follow her own clock: sleep when she was tired, dig when she woke up, and eat when she was hungry. It was the same kind of life she had lived before, anyway.

Perry Yates stayed in that cave for several hours, only getting up when the temperature inside rose to around thirty degrees.

Although she didn’t have an item to tell the time, she did have a timer: a seemingly ordinary hourglass. But if you looked closely, you would find that every grain of sand inside the hourglass was made of Gold.

Looking at the hourglass in her hand, she now had a clear idea of the rate at which the cave’s temperature rose.

’With this knowledge, I should be able to get a good night’s sleep later,’ she thought.

Getting up, Perry Yates returned to the wall she had broken through earlier. She had been curious whether the caves connected to each wall were fixed or randomized.
