Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 193: Cave Survival 3Perry Yates held her digging tool, her hands moving so fast they became a blur. The sound of her pickaxe striking the stone wall—THUMP, THUMP, THUMP—reverberated through the small space, drowning out all other noises.
After Perry Yates’s relentless effort, the once-solid stone wall finally broke open.
The scene on the other side was completely different. It seemed the caves behind these stone walls weren’t fixed but appeared randomly.
This meant she would have to be extremely careful when entering the next cave. Otherwise, if she ended up in a particularly dangerous one, she’d have no way to retreat.
Just as Perry Yates entered the new cave, at the very moment the wall sealed behind her, she turned and saw a strange man breaking through an adjacent wall. He was holding a tool and had just made an opening.
The man seemed surprised that someone had already beaten him to this cave. Seeing Perry Yates about to move on, he quickened his pace and called out, "Wait, we can work together."
However, he clearly wasn’t faster than the wall’s regeneration.
Just as he was about to touch the wall, it sealed completely.
Perry Yates didn’t give the incident a second thought.
She looked at the hourglass in her hand. All the golden sand had run out.
Seeing this, she took out a piece of paper and made a mark on it.
’The second day of the game has now begun.’
Perry Yates scanned her surroundings.
This cave felt very different. The air was filled with a foul, fishy stench, and more importantly, the bracelet on her wrist had begun to grow slightly warm.
Although the heat was almost negligible, it was definitely there.
Based on Perry Yates’s understanding of her bracelet’s ability, this meant the cave was likely dangerous. However, to her, the danger was as negligible as the warmth on her wrist.
As Perry Yates explored the area, she suddenly heard a strange sound from underfoot, as if she had stepped on something.
Looking down, she saw a sticky blob of something clinging to the sole of her shoe. It was disgusting.
’What the hell is this stuff?’
"Identification."
A glint of light flashed in Perry Yates’s eyes.
[Blood-Leech
Their sharp mouthparts can easily slice through a prey’s skin. While draining blood, the Blood-Leech releases a toxin that acts as an anesthetic while also preventing blood from coagulating.
The surface of a Blood-Leech is coated in a layer of mucus, making it difficult to grab.
Once a Blood-Leech begins to feed, it will attach firmly to its prey. Intense agitation will not make it let go; instead, it will burrow deeper into the flesh.
This will continue until the prey’s body has been drained of all blood.]
Looking at the Identification results, Perry Yates finally noticed that besides the one she’d stepped on, the area was swarming with black, quail-egg-sized insects, all squirming relentlessly toward her.
Utterly repulsed by the sight, Perry Yates knew she had to get out of this place immediately.
Perry Yates picked the nearest wall, walked straight to it, and began digging with her tool.
Since this cave was made of dirt, the digging was quite easy for Perry Yates this time.
The moment the wall was breached, Perry Yates stepped through without a shred of hesitation.
However, before Perry Yates could even catch her breath, an angry growl sounded in her ear.
The next second, a black shadow lunged at her. Sensing the danger, Perry Yates quickly moved out of the way.
After dodging the first attack, Perry Yates turned and finally got a clear look at what had just assaulted her.
It was a hyena with bared fangs. It watched her with predatory eyes, foul-smelling drool dripping from the corners of its mouth.
Seeing that Perry Yates had dodged its attack, the hyena gave her no time to react and launched a second assault, lunging at her again.
This time, however, Perry Yates didn’t dodge. She swept her leg out and kicked the lunging hyena away.
’You’ll be the perfect test subject for my new Skill.’
Looking at the whimpering hyena on the ground, Perry Yates focused her will. A green seed appeared at her fingertip, then dropped. The instant it touched the ground, it took root, sprouted, and began to grow rapidly.
Soon, the plant was over a meter tall.
The limited space here was the only thing holding it back; otherwise, it could have grown even larger. Still, even at this size, it was more than enough to deal with the hyena.
After the plant stopped growing, a flower bud quickly formed at its tip.
The bud swelled at a visible rate and then blossomed, revealing brilliant red petals, a golden pistil, and a fragrant scent that wafted from its core.
Perry Yates was very pleased with the flower her Skill had produced. At the very least, it was far more beautiful than that previous amalgamation monster.
However, while the fragrance was incredibly pleasant at first, smelling it for too long induced an involuntary wave of nausea.
Perry Yates covered her nose, her expression hard to describe.
She had heard that carnivorous plants didn’t smell very good, but she never expected it to be this foul—so much so that it caused a physical sense of discomfort.
The hyena she had just kicked away had the opposite reaction.
The hyena twitched its nose, staggered to its feet, and then ran unhesitatingly toward the flower, its movements laced with a hint of desperation.
The moment the hyena neared the flower, the beautiful red blossom’s demeanor instantly changed. It lunged downward, its petals snapping shut and tightly enveloping the hyena that had drawn close.
Immediately after, the inner petals began to secrete a powerful digestive fluid.
This fluid was more potent than concentrated sulfuric acid and could easily corrode steel.
Engulfed by the digestive fluid, the hyena struggled for less than a second before falling completely still.
Perry Yates stroked the digesting Cannibal Flower, extremely satisfied with its attack power.
The Skill’s only weakness, it seemed, was that the Cannibal Flower, much like the Chomper from Plants vs. Zombies, couldn’t digest its food instantly.
But compared to the Chomper from Plants vs. Zombies, her Cannibal Flower’s digestion speed was clearly much faster.
Perry Yates did a quick calculation. The Cannibal Flower needed about five seconds to digest a hyena-sized creature. The time would vary slightly depending on the prey’s size and mass.
Fortunately, this wasn’t a single-target Skill. When faced with a large number of enemies, she could just plant an entire field of Cannibal Flowers.
