Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 207: Cave Survival 17Dylan Adler’s face was a mask of shock when he learned that Perry Yates had already been living here for several days.
"The temperature in here doesn’t rise?"
After all, the only reason players like them had to constantly move to new caves was the rising temperature. Otherwise, with plenty of food and water, they could have just stayed in one place until the thirty days were up.
Of course, that excluded ambitious players who were looking for cards.
That was why Dylan Adler looked so surprised to hear Perry Yates had managed to stay here for several days.
Perry Yates shook her head. She decided not to hide the existence of the Infrastructure Space Stone; after all, one lie just leads to a thousand more to cover it up.
Given the disparity in their intellect, Perry Yates decided it was best not to play mind games with the man in front of her.
Dylan Adler’s eyes lit up when he saw the stone Perry Yates produced, but his gaze quickly turned strange.
"You’re just showing me this? Aren’t you afraid I might be a bad guy?"
’This girl has no sense of caution. I have no idea how she’s survived this long.’
Perry Yates paused, taken aback. She hadn’t expected Dylan Adler to ask such a question.
Then she tilted her head, a brilliant smile spreading across her face. "You’re not just some random person. You’re the captain of the Survival Game Administration’s first team. I trust Drakonia’s rigorous selection process. Besides, even if you weren’t here, I planned on selling these stones after I got back anyway."
Perry Yates wasn’t lying. The only question was whether she would sell them under her own name or under the name of The Card Tavern.
As for Dylan Adler, upon learning about the Infrastructure Space Stone, he abandoned his plans to leave and decided to stay. Perry Yates had no objections. With someone to help with the labor and stand guard at night, she could finally get a good night’s sleep. Why would she ever turn down such a good deal?
「On the eighteenth day of the game.」
With Dylan Adler joining her, the cave’s expansion sped up considerably.
If the Infrastructure Space Stone didn’t need time to stabilize the area, Dylan’s pace would have been even faster.
Meanwhile, Perry Yates had become obsessed with disinfection ever since the incident with the Green-Skinned Ghoul.
Every time Dylan Adler carved out a new area, she would meticulously disinfect it from top to bottom.
「On the nineteenth day of the game.」
Early in the morning, Dylan Adler went to the spot where they had placed an Infrastructure Space Stone the day before. With the digging tool Perry Yates had been using, he dug a few times and quickly opened a hole in the wall.
Perry Yates was nearby, ready to disinfect the new cave at a moment’s notice.
Just then, as the hole appeared in the wall, a rancid stench assaulted them. The choking odor was so strong that Perry Yates nearly fainted on the spot.
Then, a hoarse cry echoed from the other side of the hole.
Seeing this, Dylan Adler summoned a bolt of azure lightning in his hand and blasted it through the opening.
Instantly, flashes of light erupted on the other side. The creature inside, struck by the lightning, let out a pained shriek.
Perry Yates crossed her arms and leaned against the wall. "Your luck is truly hopeless," she said, her voice cool.
When Perry Yates was on her own, she hadn’t found much, but she also hadn’t run into much danger. Most of the caves were empty.
But Dylan Adler...
She didn’t know what his luck was like before, but just in the last day, every single cave he’d chosen to open had housed a powerful beast or ghoul. They’d even run into two Green-Skinned Ghouls.
Fortunately, Dylan Adler was powerful enough that most of the beasts and ghouls they encountered were no match for him.
It was to be expected from one of Drakonia’s current top combatants.
As for the two Green-Skinned Ghouls, Perry Yates had burned them to a crisp, which was followed by another round of heavy-duty disinfection.
Dylan Adler didn’t respond to Perry’s teasing.
He rarely teamed up with others, so as far as he was concerned, what he was experiencing was completely normal.
Just as Perry was speaking, another sound came from the other side of the wall.
The sound was extremely faint; even Dylan Adler, who was closer, didn’t notice it.
"Watch out! Get back!"
As she spoke, Perry Yates took two steps back, away from the breached wall. A vine shot out from her hand, yanking back Dylan Adler, who was a step too slow.
Just as they cleared the area, the wall, which had only had a small hole in it, collapsed with a loud BOOM. A huge, tangled mass of long, thin things swarmed in.
From a distance, it looked like a giant ball of writhing earthworms, but these things were clearly much larger.
Perry Yates couldn’t help but shudder at the sight of the densely packed, dark-red mass.
"Identification."
[Crimson Crawler
A subterranean worm attracted by the scent of rotting flesh. They are typically solitary but congregate during their breeding season, emitting a strong pheromone to attract more of their kind.
This pheromone is a potent stimulant for Crimson Crawlers, keeping them in a constant state of excitement. For other creatures, however, it has a powerful debilitating effect. Prolonged exposure will impair the senses of smell, taste, and hearing.
Crimson Crawlers possess immense Life Force. They will survive unless completely destroyed from the inside out.]
Seeing this, Perry immediately took out a mask and put it on, then handed a new one to Dylan Adler.
The mask couldn’t completely block the Crimson Crawlers’ pheromones, but it was better than nothing.
Then, Perry Yates relayed the information about the Crimson Crawlers.
"We must deal with these Crimson Crawlers as soon as possible."
Dylan Adler knew this as well, so he unhesitatingly unleashed his most powerful Skill.
Countless bolts of azure lightning descended, instantly illuminating the entire cave as if it were broad daylight.
When the lightning subsided, the air was filled with the smell of roasting meat.
"Is it over?"
Perry Yates asked tentatively, looking at the charred mass.
"Not yet." Dylan Adler’s expression was grave.
As if to prove his point, the moment he finished speaking, the charred mass of Crimson Crawlers began to stir again.
Seeing that Dylan Adler was about to attack again, Perry Yates raised a hand to stop him.
"This will take forever at your rate. Let me handle it."
She hadn’t wanted to reveal too much in front of Dylan Adler, but... oh well. Whatever.
