Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 232: Haisa 15Besides, the Croupiers aren’t idiots. They wouldn’t willingly expose their identities, knowing this game is specifically designed to target them.
There are, after all, only four Croupier slots per planet. To say they’re one in ten thousand is an understatement; it’s more like one in a hundred million. Any player who becomes a Croupier is undoubtedly exceptional in terms of strength, luck, and temperament.
By comparison, non-Croupiers and Dealer Hunters like them simply paled in comparison.
"If that’s the case, then everyone we previously ruled out is now a suspect," another woman said.
Hearing this, a flicker of resentment crossed Shaz’s face, but she had to force it down because the other woman was a Dealer Hunter.
’Just you wait. Once I become a Dealer Hunter, I’ll make her pay.’
"Regardless, we’ve pinpointed their location. We’re already miles ahead of everyone else. At worst, we’ll just screen everyone again. We’re bound to find them. If that doesn’t work, we’ll just get rid of all the suspects."
That last option was a last resort. After all, it was only the middle of the game. Acting too brazenly would bring them trouble as well.
Meanwhile, Perry Yates had no idea she had been targeted. After returning to her room, she waited for the water in the bathtub to reach one hundred degrees and used an item to observe the state of the Brain-Eater Bugs inside.
The Brain-Eater Bug larvae weren’t scalded to death as expected. In fact, the high temperature made them even more active—they were even multiplying.
This was the first time Perry Yates learned that Brain-Eater Bugs reproduced by splitting, just like cells.
After pouring a chemical designed to kill Brain-Eater Bugs into the tub, Perry Yates cleaned up any traces she had left in the room and threw out all her luggage. It was useless, and it wasn’t like she could take it with her anyway.
Acting on the principle of ’if I can’t have it, no one can,’ Perry Yates tossed everything into the sea. She then prepared to leave; she could no longer stay in that room.
Fortunately, she had plenty of Skills and items, so hiding herself wouldn’t be a problem.
Perry Yates made her way to the banquet hall, using Moon Shadow Stealth and an ability that lowered her presence.
The entire banquet hall was filled with sparkling decorations, especially the lavish crystal chandelier in the very center. ’Could there be a more perfect hiding spot?’
Perry Yates turned into a diamond and hid herself on the chandelier. Then, she created a Clone.
The Clone’s appearance was controllable; unless she wanted it to, it wouldn’t look like her.
After leaving the banquet hall, the Clone went outside. Many sailors were hard at work fishing, with a crowd of onlookers gasping in amazement from time to time.
Nearby, chefs with knives were dispatching the freshly caught fish on the spot, slicing them into sashimi for the crowd to enjoy.
While everyone’s eyes were on the commotion on deck, the Clone seized the chance to slip into the galley.
Perry Yates had tried to check out the galley before, but she’d been stopped every time.
Although she had many ways to enter the galley without being discovered, for some reason, every time she was about to try, she would get the feeling of being watched by a pair of eyes, and the hairs on the back of her neck would stand on end.
After this happened several times, Perry Yates had given up on entering the galley.
Just as it had thought, the galley was empty. After all, the chefs were all on deck serving the guests.
Upon entering, the Clone found that the galley was spotlessly clean, and the air was thick with the smell of disinfectant.
The Clone glanced around, feeling that something about the galley was off. It looked for a long while before it suddenly hit. It finally realized what was wrong: the galley lacked the feel of a working kitchen.
’The extreme cleanliness could be explained by meticulous chefs, but what about the seasonings?’
The food selection on the cruise was impressive, offering everything from Chinese to Western cuisine, from street food to Michelin-star desserts. Logically, this place should be full of seasonings.
However, after rummaging through the galley, the Clone found no trace of any seasonings—or ingredients, for that matter.
’The ingredients might have been put away, but storing the seasonings too? That seems unnecessary. After all, you need seasonings for both Chinese and Western dishes. Even sashimi requires them.’
Finding no clues in the galley, the Clone left and headed for another location.
This place wasn’t far from the galley, just nearby. As if afraid people wouldn’t know what it was, the words "Food Storeroom" were written on the closed door.
’Food Storeroom. So this is where they keep the ingredients.’
The storeroom door was locked, but that wasn’t a problem for the Clone.
After entering the storeroom, the Clone saw it was piled high with all sorts of ingredients. Strangely, although the temperature inside was normal, the vegetables were extremely fresh and crisp, looking as if they had just been picked from the ground.
Besides these vegetables, the most eye-catching things were several large wooden barrels that took up nearly half the space in the storeroom.
A tap-like device was installed on the front of each wooden barrel, and above the tap was an adjustable dial. The dial was labeled with various drinks like "Champagne," "Vodka," and so on.
’Don’t tell me the drinks from the banquet came from here?’
Just as the Clone was about to check what was actually inside the barrels, it suddenly heard footsteps from outside, followed by the sound of a lock being opened.
In that split second, upon realizing someone was coming in, Perry Yates decisively dispelled the Clone.
Her consciousness snapping back to her body, Perry Yates overheard a chef in the crowd on deck say to another, "Take this freshly prepared plate of sashimi to the twelfth floor."
’Come to think of it, I seem to have been wandering around the seventh floor and below this whole time. I’ve never gone up to see what’s there.’
’Of course, I’m not going to blame myself for being careless. This cruise ship is just too damn big.’
As dusk fell, she decided to go and check it out that night.
’Come to think of it, ever since I ’sent off’ the original captain, someone else took over the cruise ship. But who are they? Since taking over, they haven’t shown their face at all. They’re keeping a very low profile.’
