Perry Yates popped the candy into her mouth. A rich, minty fragrance erupted on her tongue, instantly chasing away all her fatigue. She felt completely reinvigorated.

Stepping outside, a wave of scorching heat hit her. The weather today seemed even hotter than yesterday.

This time, Perry didn’t change into her delivery driver uniform.

First, she went to a rental agency and got a van. Then, she drove it to the restaurant where she had ordered food the day before.

After having the dishes and rice she ordered packed up and loading them into the van, she paid the rest of her bill and drove off.

On the road, Perry transferred all the packed food directly into her Space Backpack.

Since this was a coastal city, Perry decided to check out the beach today.

After returning the van, Perry casually unlocked a shared bicycle by the roadside.

When she reached the shore, Perry had expected to see a cerulean sea and a golden beach. Instead, she was greeted by a beach strewn with garbage and murky seawater.

She had originally planned to wander around and see if she could find a few cards. ’Now, I guess not.’

After a quick scan of the beach confirmed there was nothing she wanted, Perry turned to leave.

Just then, the sound of children playing and shouting came from nearby.

Perry glanced over casually at the sound, but her eyes were immediately drawn to what they were holding.

That group of kids was holding... cards?

’I’m not sure. I need a closer look.’

Just as Perry was about to get closer, two people in hats suddenly darted out from the side.

Their backs were to Perry the entire time, so she couldn’t see their faces.

Soon, the children’s cheerful laughter vanished, replaced by heart-wrenching sobs.

Perry watched as the two people snatched the cards and ran off without a second glance, leaving the small children crying where they stood.

Seeing this, Perry hesitated for a moment before walking over.

"Hey, don’t cry. How about I give you some candy?"

As she spoke, Perry reached into her pocket, pretending to pull out candy.

A moment later, seven or eight pieces of candy appeared in her hand.

The children, ranging in age from seven or eight down to four or five, actually started to quiet down when they saw the candy in Perry’s hand.

Children are simple Angels; they can sense when you show them kindness.

And just like that, with a few pieces of candy and some snacks, Perry successfully became the kids’ new favorite big sister.

"By the way, were you crying because of those two people just now?" Perry asked, feigning ignorance.

One of the children puffed up his cheeks angrily. "They’re bad guys! They stole the cards we worked so hard to collect."

"Cards? Are they prizes you get from snacks?" Perry asked.

"No, we cut them out ourselves. We don’t know where they came from, but they looked pretty, so we started collecting them."

Perry nodded. "Those cards are indeed very nice."

Just then, one of the older children suddenly leaned in and asked, "Miss, do you want those cards too?"

"I do," Perry said without hesitation. "But didn’t your cards just get stolen?"

"The ones that got stolen were just the ones we found today. We’ve collected a lot more before. But if you want them, Miss, you’ll have to trade with us."

Perry looked at the clever little kid before her, whose eyes were darting about. "What do you want for them?" she asked.

"I want money. How about ten yuan per card?" the boy said with a serious expression.

"Deal," Perry nodded.

Seeing this, the boy’s eyes lit up. He shot to his feet. "You’ve got a deal! We’ll go get the cards right now. Wait for us here!"

With that, he ran off into the distance, and the rest of the children scampered off after him.

Perry watched their retreating backs for a moment before turning her gaze away.

She had noticed earlier that the children were grimy and somewhat thin. Most importantly, their clothes didn’t fit properly.

The grime could be from playing around; after all, kids this age are mischievous, and getting into scrapes is normal.

But being thin, wearing ill-fitting clothes, and the fact that not a single adult stepped in when they were being bullied...

’It all suggests their parents probably aren’t around,’ she thought. ’Are they left-behind children, or orphans?’

「Elsewhere.」

The group of children ran all the way to a distant orphanage.

"Quick! Get out all your collected cards! I found a buyer!"

The boy shouted as soon as he entered the orphanage.

The words were barely out of his mouth when a crowd of seven- and eight-year-olds gathered around, chattering excitedly. "For real?!"

"Of course it’s real! And she’ll pay ten yuan per card. That’s way better than selling to Victor Ward. He only pays three yuan a card."

Hearing that a single card could sell for ten yuan, all the children’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Ten yuan was enough to cover their food expenses for a whole day.

"What are you standing around for? Hurry up and go get the cards you’ve found!"

Urged on, the children snapped out of their shock and hurried back to their rooms without a moment’s delay to get the cards they had found.

Una Lynch gathered everyone’s cards together. He counted them—all told, there were about a hundred.

At ten yuan a card, that would be one thousand yuan—enough to improve their lives at the orphanage.

Una Lynch tucked the cards safely inside his clothes and then rushed back outside.

Meanwhile, Perry had found a place to sit down. After waiting for about ten minutes, she saw the boy from before running back toward her.

Una Lynch arrived beside Perry, out of breath, and held out a bundle he had been clutching to his chest.

"There are one hundred and seven cards here. That’s one thousand and seventy yuan in total."

After speaking, Una Lynch watched Perry nervously, as if afraid she would back out of the deal.

Perry opened the plastic bag wrapped around the cards. Seeing the assorted cards inside, she began to count.

"105, 106, 107."

After confirming there were one hundred and seven cards, Perry took one thousand and seventy yuan from her bag and handed it to Una Lynch.

"By the way, can I ask when these cards started appearing?" Perry asked casually.

Hearing the question, Una Lynch thought for a moment. "I don’t remember the exact time, but I think the first person found a card last Saturday."
