Among item cards, the Space Backpack is also a Rare Card.

Since The Card Tavern opened, even though many people had come to exchange cards, it hadn’t taken in a single Space Backpack Card—not even a one-star one.

This alone was enough to show just how rare the Space Backpack was.

As for White Cards, their contents were all ordinary items.

However, this wasn’t a problem for Perry Yates.

After performing Ascension multiple times, she had long since figured out a system.

For example, most eyeglass-type White Cards, after being enhanced, could transform from ordinary glasses into an item with an Identification function.

Kitchenware-like items, after Ascension, could be used to create food that raised one’s attributes.

Following this logic, she could deduce that bag-type cards would yield Space Backpack item cards after Ascension.

Since The Card Tavern had only just opened, Perry Yates hadn’t put out the various item cards for display yet.

But after this game was over, those items could be put on display.

After all, the more people who possessed spatial items, the more cards they would bring back from the games.

Once players had more cards, they would naturally be more willing to spend them at The Card Tavern.

All in all, those cards would end up in her pocket one way or another.

「The fourth day of the game.」

Perry Yates woke up from the heat.

She opened her eyes to find that the air conditioner in her room had stopped running at some point. No wonder it was so hot; the entire room felt like a steamer.

She wiped the sweat from her forehead and turned the air conditioner back on.

As the cool air from the unit washed over her, Perry Yates finally felt like she could live again.

But after all that, she was wide awake, so she just got out of bed.

She went to the window. The sky outside was just beginning to brighten, but the temperature had already climbed past thirty degrees.

She opened her phone. The screen showed that the temperature today would be over forty degrees and advised residents to stay indoors to avoid heatstroke.

She then glanced at the weather forecast, which predicted sunny skies for today, tomorrow, the day after, and the day after that, with temperatures rising each day.

Recalling the information she’d gained from the Immersive Experience, Perry Yates felt the forecast was wrong. Barring any surprises, it should rain within the next two days.

Even though her phone warned of the high temperature and advised her to stay inside, Perry Yates got dressed, ready to head out.

Down on the first floor, Perry Yates went to the dining hall for breakfast.

The B&B’s owner was an excellent cook, and she never served the same breakfast twice.

Since it was so hot today, breakfast was cold noodles.

As Perry Yates was eating, a shadow suddenly fell over her.

She looked up and saw the couple from the next room standing before her, holding their trays.

"Mind if we join you?" the woman asked with a smile.

Perry Yates glanced around.

It was still early and guests from the other rooms hadn’t emerged yet, so there were plenty of empty tables in the dining hall.

’It’s obvious they’re not here to share a table. They’re clearly after me.’

’Looks like these two still haven’t given up on their suspicions.’

Still, it wasn’t her dining hall, and she couldn’t tell people where to sit. So she just nodded and went back to her noodles.

The pair looked delighted as they sat down, but instead of starting their meal, they just watched Perry Yates.

Feeling their intense stares, Perry Yates looked up with a hint of resignation.

"Is there something I can help you with?" she asked.

"Are you planning to go out today? Want to go together?" the woman asked.

In response, Perry Yates simply unlocked her phone, placed it in front of the couple, and pointed to the screen.

"I’m not going out. It’s over forty degrees today, and I’d rather not get cooked alive."

’I had originally planned to go out, but if it means going with these two, I’d rather not.’

’Besides, when I think about it, I’m fully stocked on supplies and someone else is collecting cards for me. There’s really nothing for me to do outside except get a sunburn.’

’Especially since these two are rookie players. I have no interest in being their bodyguard.’

’What if we find a card? Who gets it? It’s a thankless job, and I want no part of it.’

The woman’s smile froze, apparently not having expected a rejection. "Oh... okay then," she said awkwardly.

Though neither side had explicitly stated their identities, that brief exchange was as good as laying their cards on the table.

Back in her room, Perry Yates recalled the Wood Clone and Moon Avatar she had left outside. In this heat, even a plant couldn’t stand such high temperatures.

In the end, she only left the Sun Avatar out.

Inside her room, Perry Yates yanked the curtains open.

Her room faced the sun, and when she pulled back the curtains, piercing sunlight streamed in.

Even though it wasn’t yet noon, the sunlight outside was already intense. Perry Yates stood there, basking in the sun’s rays while enjoying the cool blast of the air conditioner. ’Such great sunlight. It would be a waste not to absorb as much as possible right now.’

With her eyes closed, Perry Yates split her focus three ways: she monitored the status of her Clones, continuously performed Ascension on the cards in her hand, and contemplated her next move.

’My original plan had been to stay at this B&B, but on an impulse today, I revealed my identity.’

’I hadn’t thought much of it at first, but on second thought, it would be better to find a new place to stay now.’

Deciding to act, Perry Yates had one of her Clones start searching for a new place.

’Renting an apartment at a time like this isn’t practical; I’d be too likely to run into other players. The same goes for hotels.’

’And considering potential future problems, if I did get a hotel, a room on a lower floor would be out of the question. It would have to be a high floor.’

Perry Yates had her Clone check several hotels, only to find that the high-floor rooms were all already occupied.

Met with the polite smiles of the receptionists, Perry Yates’s Clone turned and left.

’I don’t even have to think about it. It had to be other players.’

’Looks like it’s even easier to run into players at a hotel than in a rental.’

Just then, her Clone happened to glance up at the tall building overhead. An idea struck her, and her eyes lit up.

’That’s it! It’s not like I need a building. Why insist on staying in someone else’s place?’

Perry Yates had her Clone find a corner, activate Invisibility, and with a powerful leap, land vertically on the smooth wall.

The Clone then scaled the wall, quickly reaching the roof.

It was just as she’d expected: very spacious, and...

She looked up. There was plenty of direct sunlight.

Back at the B&B, once she knew a location was secured, Perry Yates did some light packing and opened an Any Door directly to it.

As she stepped through the Any Door, a cool breeze washed over her, a wonderfully refreshing sensation.
