Realizing this, the robbers didn’t dare linger any longer. They had already gotten plenty of food, which should be enough to last them for a while.

They had met and collaborated in previous games. This time, upon learning the danger in this game was a natural disaster—torrential rain—they chose to team up once again.

They rented a house in the best location together. While this ensured their safety, the rent was quite expensive. The landlord demanded a security deposit and three months’ rent upfront. Even after they argued until they were blue in the face, the final result was a compromise: a deposit and one month’s rent.

After paying, they didn’t have a single cent to spare. To avoid starving in the days to come, they resorted to this desperate measure.

However, they had carefully selected this location, betting that the supermarket manager would choose to compromise for the sake of the customers’ safety.

And things were indeed developing just as they had expected. What they hadn’t anticipated, however, was that a player had blended in with the customers.

And a player who was practically bursting with a sense of justice, at that.

At this point, they couldn’t be bothered with their companion lying on the ground, his fate unknown. All they wanted was to get out of there as quickly as possible.

The men scrambled outside in a panic, jumped into their car, and started it, heading back the way they came.

Watching the supermarket grow smaller and smaller behind them, they couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

"We should be safe now."

"From here on out, we just need to be—"

He hadn’t even finished the sentence when, with a loud BANG, their car spun out of control, the front end smashing heavily into the guardrail.

At the same time, a police officer’s voice boomed from outside, "To the people inside the car, listen up! You are surrounded. Surrender immediately! Do not offer any pointless resistance."

To the three men, however, these words of warning sounded like a provocation.

’If we can’t beat that player hiding in the crowd, surely we can handle these game NPCs?’

As they thought this, a vicious glint flashed in their eyes.

In their eyes, the people in the game weren’t real. Even though they were outnumbered and outgunned, they still didn’t take the police seriously.

What they didn’t know, however, was that several similar robberies had already occurred in other places. The news just hadn’t spread because of a media blackout.

So, when the officer who had been shouting saw them get out of the car aggressively, brandishing their weapons, he didn’t hesitate for a second. He spoke into his walkie-talkie, "Take them down!"

The next second, three shots rang out—BANG! BANG! BANG!—and the three men fell to the ground.

At the same time, a sniper hidden in the distance reported over his headset, "Targets eliminated."

Upon receiving the signal, the SWAT team immediately surrounded the vehicle and dragged the men away.

After towing the car and cleaning up the scene, they gave the all-clear to lift the blockade.

Meanwhile, back in the supermarket, the manager was at his wits’ end dealing with the aftermath.

He’d seen robberies for money, but he’d never seen anyone try to rob a supermarket.

Although his was a high-end supermarket, these men clearly weren’t after money. They were after food.

’Is this some new kind of robbery?’

The supermarket manager shook his head. ’These things are beyond a humble manager like me to comprehend. Best to leave professional matters to the professionals.’ His main job now was to placate the customers.

He also arranged for the robber who had suddenly fainted to be taken to the police station.

He heard that of the three who had escaped, one had been killed, while the other two were injured in the car crash and had already been taken to the hospital.

In the end, to placate the customers, the supermarket manager announced that every customer present today would receive a 5,000-yuan shopping voucher. And because Perry Yates had been a hostage and suffered a greater shock, her compensation would be double that of the others—a full 10,000 yuan.

It was only a shopping voucher, but free is free. No sense in letting it go to waste.

Perry Yates, who had been about to leave, went back into the supermarket.

A 10,000-yuan shopping voucher could certainly buy a lot in a regular supermarket, but in a high-end place like this, 10,000 yuan really wasn’t much at all.

Perry Yates only bought a few things before the voucher was all used up.

After paying, Perry Yates passed the entrance and saw a person dressed as a janitor walk up to a trash can, a puzzled look on their face. "That’s strange," the janitor said, "where’d the trash in here go?"

She remembered having just thrown some trash in a little while ago. How could it have vanished in the blink of an eye?

The janitor clearly didn’t dwell on it for long, though. It was just some trash, after all.

But seeing this scene gave Perry Yates an idea.

’Trash gets thrown into trash cans... so what happens when the trash cans are full?’

’And a supermarket this big can’t possibly sell every single item before its expiration date. So, what do they do with the expired food?’

’Taking all that into account, there must be an even bigger trash receptacle somewhere in this supermarket.’

With this in mind, Perry Yates found a secluded spot to put her things into her Space Backpack. Then, she began to circle the supermarket, testing her theory.

As it turned out, her theory was correct. On the shaded side of the supermarket, Perry Yates saw three enormous dumpsters lined up in a row, all overflowing with various kinds of trash.

Perry Yates walked over and casually glanced inside, wanting to see if there was anything she was looking for.

And there was!

After confirming there were indeed cards in the dumpster, Perry Yates couldn’t be bothered with anything else. She immediately found a corner and activated her Invisibility Skill.

’This way, no one will spot me.’

Ignoring the foul stench from the dumpster, Perry Yates dove right in and started searching.

She was really going all out for these cards.

Fortunately, her efforts paid off.

A fair number of cards had been discarded in the three dumpsters, most of which were Happy Group cards.

Seeing this, Perry Yates was absolutely ecstatic.

After collecting all the cards, Perry Yates sniffed at herself in disgust, then directly dispelled this Clone.

「At the same time.」

Inside the Safe House, the real Perry Yates slowly opened her eyes. She subconsciously sniffed her clothes but detected no foul odor.

Still, she got up and went to the adjacent bathroom to take a shower.

After her shower, she washed all the cards she had salvaged from the dumpster before beginning the Ascension process on them.

To Perry Yates’s surprise, after she finished the Ascension for all the Happy Group cards, she found that in addition to Basic Health Cards, Basic Healing Cards, and Basic Life Cards, she had also created Basic Constitution Cards and a Five-tone Card.
