Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 75: Solara 13It was the sixth day of the game.
Perry Yates gazed out the window at the pouring rain.
After finishing breakfast, she decided not to go out today. The rain was simply too heavy.
While eating, Perry Yates opened her phone to check the news.
The day before, she had emptied the supermarket of everything edible, not even leaving behind the seasonings.
’By now, someone’s probably discovered it.’
Sure enough.
As soon as Perry Yates unlocked her phone, she saw it was the top trending story.
#ValuMart Robbed! All Food Wiped Out! Police Investigating!#
Plenty of people were already discussing it online.
Then, someone revealed that ValuMart had been robbed another time on the same day, and those robbers had also wanted nothing but food.
This statement instantly sparked an even more heated debate.
"They took nothing but food? For real?"
"Of course it’s real! I was trapped inside the supermarket at the time. They even took a hostage."
"But then, for some reason, one of the robbers suddenly collapsed and didn’t get back up."
"Don’t you think those people found out about something and are prepping for what’s coming?"
As soon as this comment appeared, it was instantly upvoted to the top.
"Dude, you read my mind. Why else would they only want food? That’s the proof right there."
"Yes, yes, exactly! And about the ValuMart incident today—my sister works there. She said it wasn’t just the food aisles. Anything remotely edible in the entire store was taken, and the warehouse was cleaned out too.
My sister even told me to go stock up on food quickly, just in case."
"Emptying an entire ValuMart, including its warehouse, of all food overnight. And without leaving a single clue. That’s clearly not something a normal person could do."
"Maybe the thief is some reincarnator with a cheat ability."
"What thief? That’s a master we’re talking about."
"Master, are you out there? Can you give us guys a sign? Don’t worry, we’d never sell you out."
After that, a whole bunch of people started calling for the ’master’ in the comments.
Perry Yates had assumed no one would respond. But to her surprise, someone actually replied. And judging by the message, the person was very likely a player.
"If I were you, I wouldn’t be surfing the web right now. I’d be rushing to the nearest supermarket to buy food. Don’t you think there’s something off about the rain outside?"
The comment was a wake-up call.
As everyone reeled in shock that they had actually gotten a response, they turned to look at the rain outside.
Although they had been waiting for this rain for a long time, after the reminder from the person online, the more they looked at it, the more something felt wrong.
’This rain... it’s not going to just keep falling nonstop, is it?’
Those with food stored at home weren’t too panicked, knowing they wouldn’t starve even if the rain didn’t stop.
The ones who were truly panicking were those with no food stored at home.
They wanted to go out and buy food.
However, when they braved the rain to go out, they discovered that the shops and supermarkets were all closed due to the downpour, forcing them to return empty-handed.
This ordeal only fanned the flames of their anxiety.
After finishing her breakfast, Perry Yates went to the window.
The rain outside was still falling, but it had grown even heavier. Huge drops smashed against the ground, making a deafening noise.
Perry Yates reached her hand out into the rain, and the force of the drops hitting her skin made her gasp.
"That hurts!"
Perry Yates had thought the rain would continue falling nonstop.
But unexpectedly, around four in the afternoon, the torrential downpour began to taper off.
By four-thirty, it had stopped completely.
The rain had cooled the entire city, and even the sky looked much clearer.
Just then, Perry Yates glanced out her window and suddenly saw what looked like a Card on a nearby rooftop.
It was face down, so she couldn’t see the Card’s rank.
Perry Yates pushed open the window. A rose vine sprouted from her palm, shooting out to swiftly snatch the Card and pull it back to her.
"A three-star Card!"
Perry Yates was stunned when she saw the Card’s rank.
After all, since the game began, every Card she had seen was a rankless White Card. One-star Cards were few and far between. To suddenly get a three-star Card was a genuine surprise.
With that in mind, Perry Yates began to examine the three-star Card’s ability.
"Rain Prayer."
Upon activation, the Skill could make it rain within a one-kilometer radius centered on the user.
Perry Yates was very tempted by a Card that could change the weather, but unfortunately, its attribute wasn’t quite right for her.
Although Perry Yates could absorb Cards with other attributes, she couldn’t absorb just any attribute.
Aside from the previous Yin Yang Balance Card, any other Card she absorbed, regardless of its attribute, had to contain a Sun, Moon, or Wood Attribute.
Otherwise, it would cause problems for her.
’Oh well, I’ll see if I can fuse it with other Cards later.’
Fusing a three-star Card would likely take a very long time.
After stowing the Card, Perry Yates sent out a Clone again to see what was happening outside.
The streets were now bustling with activity, especially places like malls and supermarkets, which were packed with people.
As the Clone walked down the street, she felt out of place among the crowds and decided to head into a mall to take a look.
As it turned out, she had overestimated things.
She couldn’t even get through the mall’s main entrance.
Fearing a stampede, the mall management had sent out a large number of staff to maintain order.
Heeding the staff’s hoarse shouts, the noisy crowd finally quieted down and surprisingly began to form a proper line.
The mall manager was shouting through a bullhorn that anyone who caused further disorganization would be blacklisted from the mall.
Perry Yates’s Clone saw this and didn’t bother getting in line. After all, Perry already had more than enough supplies for herself; there was no need to compete with the locals over what was left.
Not long after the Clone left to check somewhere else, a sudden flash of light lit up the sky, immediately followed by a deafening clap of thunder overhead.
Giving people almost no time to react, a torrential downpour, accompanied by fierce winds, came crashing down. WHOOSH! In the blink of an eye, everyone was soaked to the bone.
