Chapter 105: Chapter 104: Moving Castle

"Alright, let’s give it a try..."

The effects of Chu Zhaozhao’s acrobatic display from earlier were now apparent. She seemed to love using her superpowers, finding even a menial task like cleaning a trash can to be a source of endless fun. She controlled several sheets of metal at once to do the cleaning.

Under her precise control, the metal sheets acted like small shovels, scraping the flat parts of the trash can’s inner walls clean.

Seeing that the job was more or less done, Lin Fan called everyone over. After helping Chu Zhaozhao put on her protective gear, the four of them, spears in hand, stood inside the giant trash can together.

They poked their bodies out from the opening at the top, looking like four tank crewmen...

"Pfft..."

Lin Fan couldn’t help but laugh out loud at the sight of the four of them.

"Zhaozhao..."

Seeing Lin Fan’s reaction, Su Qing gave Chu Zhaozhao a meaningful look. A metal plate leaning nearby immediately toppled toward Lin Fan’s feet.

CLANG!

"Alright, alright, I’ll stop messing around. Let’s test this out..."

Lin Fan easily dodged the metal plate, but he still stopped laughing under Su Qing’s threatening gaze. He cleared his throat and looked seriously at the contraption—the very strategy they had devised this morning after deciding to enter the residential complex to farm zombies.

"Okay, let’s run through the drill we planned... Retract!"

At Lin Fan’s command, the four of them immediately let go of their spears and crouched down. Simultaneously, Chu Zhaozhao controlled the metal lids to slam shut!

BANG!

The entire trash can instantly became an airtight "iron tortoise." Not even dozens of zombies could smash it open.

"How’s the space inside?"

"It’s okay, not too crowded..."

Su Qing’s muffled voice came from within.

"Alright then. Out!"

CLANG!

The four lids flipped upward, merging at the top of the trash can, and the four of them stood up from inside at the same time.

At the same time, the spears they had just dropped on the ground floated up as if they had grown wings, landing back in their hands...

Because the openings were too small, it was difficult to retract the long spears inside. In an emergency, their only option was to drop them first and have Chu Zhaozhao retrieve them with her ability.

Seeing the four spears simultaneously levitate into everyone’s hands, Lin Fan couldn’t help but feel a little impressed as he looked at Chu Zhaozhao.

’My own power is channeled more through crystals, like running a series of fixed ability structures. But her ability... it’s like an innate instinct, full of spirit and possibility.’

’She only awakened her ability less than half a day ago, yet she can already control these "limbs" that appeared out of thin air with such proficiency. Is she really a genius?’

He watched their practiced coordination. Even Chu Zhaotian, the only "normal person" among them, skillfully caught his spear and executed a backhand thrust into the empty air to his side, simulating actual combat.

Lin Fan observed them for a moment, then continued,

"Very good. Let’s go. Move forward!"

SCREECH—CREAK—

The six small wheels squealed as the trash can began to move forward slowly, pushed by the four people inside.

"Is it heavy?"

"A little. These wheels aren’t working very well..."

The group pushed the trash can for a distance. Because it was harder to exert force from inside than from outside, their movement was somewhat sluggish.

"Try to keep pushing it anyway. If you really can’t move it, then have Zhaozhao use her ability to push it forward. Zhaozhao, you need to monitor your own stamina. Coordinate with each other..."

For normal movement, they could just push it. If they encountered steps or obstacles, it wasn’t out of the question for Chu Zhaozhao to temporarily make the trash can fly over them.

They had been at this all morning, yet Chu Zhaozhao’s remaining energy had stayed around two hundred. It depleted quickly, but it also regenerated quickly.

It seemed that as long as she didn’t use her power for excessively long periods, just picking up spears and pushing the cart wouldn’t be a major issue for her mana balance.

And this entire tactic was the new formation they had devised, centered around Chu Zhaozhao, for facing multiple zombies in open areas.

Lin Fan had named it "Zhaozhao’s Moving Castle"!

"Excellent..."

Lin Fan clapped as he walked over to the "Moving Castle" and asked the four people standing inside.

Su Qing and Chu Zhaozhao were on the left side, which was the front in the direction of movement, while Chu Zhaotian and Xu Qian were on the right.

Lin Fan had also specifically placed Chu Zhaotian and Chu Zhaozhao on the same side, having already told Chu Zhaozhao to look out for her brother...

"How are you guys feeling?"

"It stinks a little..."

Chu Zhaozhao was the first to speak.

"We feel pretty good, right?"

Chu Zhaotian said, glancing over at Xu Qian.

"I think it’s pretty good too. It feels really safe inside..."

Xu Qian said quietly, scratching his head.

"I think it’s fine too, but with no one to tank the zombies, I’m a little nervous..."

Su Qing said seriously, carefully recalling the results of their earlier scouting.

"Have some confidence. You all killed over a dozen zombies yesterday. Their heads are huge targets. Your problem isn’t accuracy. Treat the tip of the spear as an extension of your arm and thrust with all your might!"

Lin Fan encouraged them loudly, "Remember what we planned before: your spears have all been shortened a bit. Aim for the head. If you run into danger, retreat into the shell, and Zhaozhao will be in charge of making noise from a distance to lure the zombies away..."

He then turned to Chu Zhaozhao, pinched her cheek, and said,

"Use your ability to assist your hands in controlling the spear. It’ll increase its power and speed. From what I’ve seen, you’re more accurate when you use your ability than when you just use your hands. Conserve your mana. Don’t forget your sustainability is the core of this whole strategy. Find your own rhythm!"

Chu Zhaozhao was well-versed in the "five poisons" of games, manga, and novels, so Lin Fan’s slang was perfectly intelligible to her. Although she couldn’t literally see her "mana" like Lin Fan could, she completely understood what he meant.

"I know, I know, I know! Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go... Big Brother! Is it true what you said? Can I really get stronger just by killing zombies?"

Chu Zhaozhao said excitedly, completely forgetting Lin Fan’s warning to conserve her mana as she made her spear spin on top of the trash can.

After Lin Fan told her that killing zombies *might* make her stronger, she was already itching to use her new ability to kill some.

"I said *might*! Wait, wait... what’s the rush? Here..."

As he spoke, Lin Fan turned and retrieved four short spears and a coil of iron wire from under the steps.

"I had Wu Haitao drill holes on all four sides earlier. Figure out how to use the wire to hang these short spears inside. They’re backups in case you lose your long spears... We should also leave a few hooks on the outside for temporarily hanging the long spears..."

Everyone had a moment of realization. Lin Fan was always more thorough.

They had only thought that if they dropped their spears, Chu Zhaozhao could just help them pick them up. But considering that her ability might have its limits, it was more convenient to have a short spear as a backup.

’When we get back today, it’d be better to hang a few more long spears on the outside.’

Once everyone was ready, Lin Fan gave the command, and "Zhaozhao’s Moving Castle" began to screech and creak its way toward the complex’s main gate.

...

"What the...?"

"Holy shit! That’s awesome, a human-powered tank..."

"Where are they going?"

"Three people can push such a heavy metal box..."

"Isn’t that Brother Lin..."

Liu Bin had already taken some people to scout the opposite building, so only a few women who were cooking and the guards on duty remained in the supermarket.

When they suddenly saw a giant trash can moving down the street, they all ran to the roadside to watch, whispering amongst themselves...

"Big Brother, I feel a little awkward..."

Lin Fan, who was strolling alongside them with his spear shouldered, looked at Chu Zhaozhao in surprise and said,

"You’re capable of feeling awkward...?"

He then glanced at Su Qing, only to see that she had already lowered her head against the trash can, silently pushing forward with more speed.

As for Xu Qian at the back, he had simply activated his ability and vanished from everyone’s sight...
