Apocalypse: I Raised the Ultimate Antagonist from Scratch
Chapter 125: Vigil in the DarkInside the research facility’s central command hub, the long-range communicator clicked off with a snap, leaving behind a heavy, vibrating silence in the cool, sterile air.
Lin Qing stood motionless before the primary terminal, her clear, dark eyes analyzing the map where the commercial logistics complex pulsed in quiet blue light miles away down the frozen valley.
Her reaction to Han Zheng’s high-stakes report was instant and completely free of hesitation. Gao Feng was most likely hunkered down inside that abandoned warehouse with his remaining mercenaries.
Without a trace of panic, Lin Qing turned away from the primary console. Standing present in the command hub was the full remaining garrison of soldiers. Over the agonizing weeks of post-apocalyptic survival, through brutal skirmishes and her unyielding foresight, every single soldier under Han Zheng’s command had come to deeply respect Lin Qing.
When she stepped up to lead, there was no need for barked orders or posturing; they listened with absolute focus and followed her directives without question.
"Listen up, everyone," Lin Qing announced, her voice smooth, steady, and carrying a quiet authority that commanded the room. "Han Zheng’s expedition squad has reached the commercial distribution complex down in the valley. They have confirmed fresh military tire tracks, discarded high-grade supplies, and elemental energy residue inside the main warehouse. It is almost certainly Gao Feng and the remnant force that fled with him."
A low murmur rippled through the assembled soldiers before settling back into disciplined silence.
"Gao Feng is not alone," Lin Qing continued, her gaze sweeping over everyone. "He has battle-hardened mercenaries with him, and more importantly, his powered enforcers. Han Zheng and Captain Lu Feng are maintaining a stealth perimeter, but they require heavy reinforcement to neutralize the threat and secure the supplies."
She turned directly toward Lieutenant Chen, Sun Hao, and Zhou Ming, stepping forward to delegate base command.
"Lieutenant Chen," Lin Qing said, locking eyes with him. "You are in full command of base perimeter security while I am deployed. Keep the main administrative wing locked down tight, especially the lower level rooms, and under no circumstances is anyone permitted entry without direct authorization."
Lieutenant Chen snapped a crisp, disciplined salute, his expression grim and resolute. "Understood, Sister-in-law Qing. We’ll hold the base down to the last man."
"Sun Hao," she addressed the tech specialist. "Stay on the primary comms deck. Keep a continuous scan on local radio frequencies, monitor our perimeter motion sensors, and maintain encrypted contact with my transport."
"On it," Sun Hao replied with a confident nod, adjusting his tech headset. "I’ll keep our channels clean and watch the radar like a hawk."
"And Zhou Ming," Lin Qing concluded. "Oversee the medical bay facilities, keep the field supplies stocked for our return, and look after the children in the residential suite. Ensure they remain safe, fed, and inside the residential suite."
"Consider it done, Sister-in-law Qing," Zhou Ming assured her, his hand resting reassuringly on his sidearm. "The kids will be completely safe with us."
Satisfied with the chain of command, Lin Qing gestured for the assault unit to gear up. "The rest of you, prepare the heavy transport. We roll out in ten minutes."
---
As Lin Qing turned and strode out of the command hub toward the primary armory, a small, dark shape glided silently along the baseboards beside her feet.
Han Ye walked in her shadow—quite literally. A subtle, wispy haze of dark shadow energy curled gently around his small boots, matching her stride step for step as if he were an actual extension of her silhouette. He had been following her around the facility all morning, his dark, sharp eyes quietly observing her every move with an intensity far beyond his years.
Lin Qing paused outside the armory doors, stepping to the side and turning to face the young boy. She crouched down slightly so she was at eye level with him.
"You’ve been sticking pretty close to me today, Han Ye," Lin Qing said softly, her cold demeanor softening just a fraction for the boy. "I’m heading out into the valley to help your father."
Han Ye looked up at her, his small jaw clenching tightly. For a brief second, his dark eyes flickered with tiny wisps of black shadow, looking like he was desperately searching for the right words to ask if he could come along. He possessed terrifying shadow abilities that could dismantle enemies in the dark, and every instinct in his nature urged him to join the strike team.
Yet, as he looked at Lin Qing’s calm, unyielding expression, the young boy hesitated. He thought of the base, the unsecured corridors, and the looming presence of Lu Ning down in the medical wing. He took a slow breath, swallowing his impulse.
"I want to go," Han Ye admitted softly, before shaking his head firmly. "But I shouldn’t. Someone needs to stay here and guard home."
He looked Lin Qing dead in the eye, his voice firm. "I’ll stay at the research center. I’ll guard the halls and keep an eye on Lu Ning so she doesn’t try anything stupid while you and father are away."
Lin Qing looked at the boy, a rare, genuine expression of warmth touching her features. She reached out with her hand and gently ruffled his dark, messy hair.
"Good boy," Lin Qing murmured softly. "I’m counting on you to hold down the fort. Keep an eye on everything."
Han Ye gave her a sharp, serious nod, standing tall like a little guard as Lin Qing stood back up and entered the armory.

Before mounting the heavy transport truck in the vehicle bay, Lin Qing made one final, deliberate stop. She strode silently down the quiet, tile-lined corridor leading into the medical supply storage room, where Lu Ning was in the middle of stacking heavy plastic inventory crates onto high steel racks.
Hearing the crisp, rhythmic click of boots halting at the threshold, Lu Ning flinched violently, almost dropping a heavy box of field dressings. She spun around, her face instantly draining of all color as her wide, anxious eyes met Lin Qing’s calm, unreadable gaze.
Lin Qing didn’t raise her voice. She didn’t draw a weapon or make a dramatic, menacing display. She simply stood framed in the doorway, her presence radiating a quiet, lethal authority that made the ambient temperature in the room feel like it had plummeted below freezing.
"I am heading out into the valley storm to join Han Zheng," Lin Qing said softly, her cold eyes fixed on Lu Ning’s visibly trembling frame. "Lieutenant Chen and the soldiers are in total charge of security while I am gone. Work hard, stay inside this wing, and do not make me regret leaving you unlocked."
Lu Ning swallowed hard, her knees wobbling so badly she had to lean heavily against the steel shelving for support. She nodded her head frantically, her voice trembling. "I... I will! I won’t move from this wing! I promise!"
Lin Qing gave a single, subtle nod of acknowledgment, turned on her heel, and walked away into the dark corridor without another word.
Within minutes, Lin Qing, Ah Hua, Xiao Li, Old Wang, and Da Yong finished loading heavy anti-power suppression gear that Lin Qing had been developing in the lab these past few days and extra ammunition crates into the armored transport.
Lieutenant Chen opened the massive hydraulic blast doors, saluting Lin Qing with fierce, quiet loyalty as the heavy vehicle roared to life and plowed straight out into the blinding whiteout of the sub-zero blizzard.
---
Miles away in the frozen depths of the mountain valley, the commercial logistics complex stood shrouded in swirling white powder, rusted chain-link fences, and absolute icy darkness.
Near the outer perimeter of the massive distribution building, total silence reigned. There were no running engine hums, no exposed boot tracks, and not a single glint of metal visible through the three-foot snowdrifts that clung to the concrete foundations.
Han Zheng and Lu Feng had executed their perimeter hold with flawless, textbook discipline. Understanding the massive threat posed by Gao Feng’s armed mercenaries and his powered enforcers, they hadn’t left a single detail to chance.
Guo Jian had driven their armored squad carriers into a hidden, half-collapsed concrete loading bay two hundred meters back from the main structure, tucking the heavy iron hulls deep out of sight. Together, the elite squad had meticulously swept away every trace of their tire treads and boot prints, letting the howling blizzard bury any remaining evidence of their arrival under fresh, powdery drifts.
Now, crouching in the pitch-black, frost-dusted shadows of an abandoned security guard annex near the warehouse’s secondary entrance, Han Zheng’s group remained completely motionless.
Han Zheng knelt near the broken, ice-encrusted window frame, his breathing slow, shallow, and perfectly controlled. Beside him, Lu Feng held his assault rifle close against his chest, his sharp eyes scanning the interior gloom through the darkened optic of his scope. Behind them, the rest of the team remained positioned in tight, silent cover behind thick concrete support pillars, their thermal cloaks blending them seamlessly into the frozen ruins.
They were waiting—vigilant, patient, and completely invisible to the naked eye.
Through the broken window, the biting wind whistled softly, carrying fine sprays of snow across the cracked concrete floorboards. Minutes bled into one another in absolute, breathless suspense as the squad monitored the quiet warehouse.
Then, without warning, the howling wind outside briefly died down into a sudden, eerie lull.
Crunch.
The sound was extraordinarily faint, but in the dead silence of the frozen complex, it hit the air like a gunshot.
Crunch... crunch... crunch.
Han Zheng’s eyes narrowed instantly into lethal focus. Beside him, Lu Feng stiffened, his gloved fingers tightening subtly around the receiver of his rifle without making a single rustle of fabric.
Heavy footsteps were cutting through the fresh snowdrifts right outside the thin annex wall—moving steadily out from the dark, cavernous interior of the main warehouse and closing in directly on their hidden position.
