Chapter 283: Chapter 283: Drunk
Lily Hart chuckled and clapped. "Now that’s more like it~" Her words were a little slurred, which Frost Shaw found surprisingly cute.
Leo Colby frowned and looked over. "Is Lily Hart drunk? Maybe we should call it a night and let her go up to rest." ’Let her sleep, and we guys can keep going.’
"No way!" Lily Hart was the first to object. She hadn’t had her fill of fun yet.
Frost Shaw also tried to persuade her. "You’re not drunk, but you’re sleepy, right? Don’t you want to go up and get some sleep?"
"No. Not sleepy. Not drunk." Lily Hart’s sentences were short, her mind a bit sluggish. She clearly wasn’t thinking straight. ’These people are so annoying! Why does every single one of them want me to go to sleep!’
Lily Hart’s temper flared. She slammed her hand on the table. "Are we playing or not?"
Everyone chimed in, "We’re playing, we’re playing. Let’s continue, continue."
In every round that followed, Lily Hart hit a "landmine." Even in her dizzy state, she knew her luck had never been this bad!
’It must be this stupid game’s fault!’
She leaned back, crossed her arms, and declared self-righteously, "Nope, not playing this anymore. Let’s switch games!"
’So now it’s the game’s fault your luck is bad, huh?’ they all thought. But they didn’t dare say it out loud, only grumbling internally.
Outwardly, they agreed. "Okay, okay, okay. Let’s switch games. Roman Rowe, see if there are any other games. Make it a fun one."
Roman Rowe had no choice but to start searching on his Light Brain, muttering to himself. Finally, he made an excited decision. "How about this one?" he said, projecting the screen onto the table.
Everyone saw the Light Brain’s projection was completely black. Owen Warren scoffed, "What is this?"
Roman Rowe extended a finger and placed it on the screen. Suddenly, a green circle appeared on the black screen right where his finger was.
"Come on, come on, everyone put one finger down," Roman Rowe instructed.
Everyone got up. Lily Hart stood up unsteadily. Frost Shaw grabbed a piece of paper to cover his hand and held her arm to help her stand firm.
Once everyone’s fingers were on the screen, a circle appeared under each one, each a different color. Roman Rowe said, "Remember your color."
Lily Hart muttered softly, "I’m red."
Frost Shaw gently reminded her, "It’s clearly pink."
"Red!"
"Pink..." Frost Shaw said weakly.
"I say it’s red!"
"Okay, okay, okay, red. Bright red!" Frost Shaw couldn’t win against her and had to agree.
Lily Hart nodded in satisfaction and shouted, "Then what?"
Roman Rowe continued, "After you’ve memorized your color, you can let go when the countdown ends."
Five, four, three, two, one... appeared on the screen.
Everyone let go. A "THUMP, THUMP, THUMP..." sound effect played as each color lit up. Then, the colors began to flash rapidly.
Two seconds later, the other circles went dark, leaving a single pink circle on the Light Brain’s screen.
This time, Roman Rowe didn’t need to explain. Everyone understood: whoever’s circle was left lit up had to drink.
Lily Hart: "Me again?" She grumbled, picked up her glass, and was about to chug it when Frost Shaw snatched it from her hand. "I’ll drink it."
"No need!" Lily Hart shoved him away, tilted her head back, and downed the drink in one go. After finishing, she flopped back into her chair, her expression vacant and her eyes glazed over.
Frost Shaw leaned in to look at her. Roman Rowe leaned in too. Everyone leaned forward to get a look, their heads clustered together to stare at Lily Hart.
Lily Hart... showed no reaction. Her arms hung limply at her sides, her ability to think completely gone.
But a tiny sliver of consciousness remained in her mind, and she was talking to her System. ’I think I’m drunk. Make sure you protect me, ’kay?’ After saying this, her head tilted to the side, her eyes closed, and she fell asleep.
System: ’You want me, a string of code, to protect you? These men are all eyeing you like wolves!’
Outside, the torrential rain continued to fall as if it would never stop, but inside the RV, it was another world—lively, warm, and filled with the faint scent of alcohol.
Frost Shaw touched his nose and looked at the others, trying his best to sound serious. "Let’s get her upstairs to sleep."
No one objected. She was drunk, so what was the point of her staying here? Of course she should go to sleep. So they all spoke up at once, each with their own motives, asking, "So, should we help her upstairs?"
Frost Shaw held up a hand to stop them, his gaze particularly on Roman Rowe. "No need. I’ll help her up. Boss Hart doesn’t like other people in her bedroom."
’She doesn’t like other people, but she’s fine with him,’ Leo Colby grumbled internally.
But none of them let their thoughts show; they kept them hidden in their hearts.
Frost Shaw first put a jacket on her to keep her warm, then with one hand supporting her arm and the other around her shoulder, he led her away from the dining table area.
Lily Hart was like a puppet on a string, leaning almost all her weight on Frost Shaw. Once they were away from the dining table, free from the confines of the chair...
Frost Shaw suddenly bent down and lifted Lily Hart into his arms, carrying her bridal style. He walked up the stairs with steady steps. Roman Rowe shot to his feet, pointing at Frost’s back, wanting to say something but holding back.
"You... you... you..." Roman Rowe stammered. By the time Frost Shaw had set foot on the stairs, Roman still hadn’t managed to get the words out. For some reason, he sat back down with a pang of heartache and ruffled his hair in frustration.
The few men left at the table, each lost in their own thoughts, averted their gazes.
Roman Rowe called out, "Another round?" But his voice held a hint of dejection, his earlier enthusiasm gone.
The others didn’t respond. Leo Colby, too, had surprisingly lost interest. He tossed his cards onto the table and stood up, his chair making a loud scraping sound. "I’m out. Going back to watch the shop."
With that, he turned and left.
’Customers? In this downpour?’
Seth fiddled with his fingers, his mind clearly not on the game. After a moment of silence, he also stood up. "I’m leaving too. I’ll go make some fast food, in case anyone in the shed wants to eat."
Stan Sterling looked from side to side and couldn’t help but sneer inwardly. ’Everyone’s intentions are so obvious.’
’When Boss Hart was here, everyone was fired up, especially Roman Rowe, who was acting like a total show-off. The moment Boss Hart leaves, they all become as listless as wilted vegetables.’
He also got up to leave. "I’m heading out too. I’m going to check if the vegetable plot got damaged by the rain."
Now, only Owen Warren and Roman Rowe were left. The two weren’t close. They made eye contact for a second before quickly looking away.
Owen Warren stood up as well. "I’m going back to my shop too." He even remembered to push his chair back in.
Roman Rowe pouted, got up, and went to the sofa. He flopped down in a spread-eagle pose. The soft couch seemed capable of healing all his unhappiness.
’What’s wrong with me?’ he thought. ’I was so supportive of Frost Shaw being good to Boss Hart before. Why have my feelings gotten so twisted now?! Roman Rowe! You’ve changed!’
Upstairs, Frost Shaw carried Lily Hart all the way up, his steps steady and sure. He glanced down at her from time to time. She seemed to be fast asleep, not even waking up from all the movement.
Her faint, sweet scent kept drifting into his nose, and the skin he touched was so soft it made it hard for him to focus on walking. He shamelessly wished the stairs were a little longer.
’A little longer, so they’d never end. That way, I could spend more time alone with Boss Hart...’
