Chapter 314: Chapter 314: So Dramatic

"That’s the problem right there. An old man, still alive and kicking. I’ve been here for a while and have barely seen any old folks," Lily Hart said.

Superpower awakenings also depend on one’s physical condition. Most are young men and women.

There are some elderly people, but they’re rare. Not many children awaken superpowers either.

If they hadn’t had protection when the apocalypse first broke out, the elderly, who aren’t as nimble, would have been the first to die.

But he’s somehow doing just fine. There are no signs of abuse on his body; he’s just filthy from having no water to bathe...

"It’s probably for self-preservation," Frost Shaw said. "No one’s willing to risk their life fighting a crazy person. They’re afraid to die."

Leo Colby nodded in agreement. "There used to be a crazy guy at Hope Base, too. Everyone kept their distance because he once went berserk and bit a man to death."

Just hearing that was enough to make your skin crawl.

Lily Hart quickly cut in, "Stop, stop, stop! We’re eating. Let’s talk about something more wholesome and positive."

"Anyway, whether he’s really crazy or just pretending, he won the grand prize of the breakfast shop. He’s one of us now, so let’s give him some business."

"Also, the hot pot restaurant is officially opening tomorrow at noon. Everyone should go check it out if you’re free. There will inevitably be things to help with. And you can check out the breakfast shop in the morning, too~"

Now they had a place for the morning, and for lunch and dinner as well.

When no one felt like cooking, they could go to these two shops to get a warm meal.

Roman Rowe: "Yay!"

He was the most excited of all.

Cynthia Whittaker could only think about what Lily Hart had just said. She eagerly responded, "Okay, then I’ll be at the breakfast shop at eight tomorrow morning!"

Leo Colby thought: ’Another tag-along.’

Owen Warren glanced over, thinking: ’Another human getting in the way. I’m still a million miles away from getting a bite of Lily Hart. I wonder if she’ll trim her nails today.’

After dinner, the number of residents at Steadfast Base actually increased.

Many survivors who spent their years killing zombies outside had received the news and rushed back just for the scratch-off tickets. It was a now-or-never opportunity.

Lily Hart glanced at Steadfast Base’s progress bar. It was thirty thousand points away from one hundred thousand.

With a good push tonight, they should be able to light it up!

As long as the customers were enthusiastic, it could be done in a day!

So she decided to close up later. This "later" ended up being eleven o’clock, and the number of customers still hadn’t dwindled.

Lily Hart was so sleepy she couldn’t stand it. She grabbed a megaphone and said, "Everyone, please go home! I’ll still be here tomorrow, I promise!"

The customers felt a little more at ease hearing this, but they had heard online that Boss Hart came and went like a phantom.

They were still terrified that they’d wake up tomorrow morning to find news that Boss Hart had vanished.

They had to scratch more while they had the chance!

At midnight, the customers finally began to leave the lottery shop, and only after Lily Hart repeatedly urged them to go did they depart reluctantly.

But they had finally reached the goal of one hundred thousand points.

She could buy the automatic scratch-off machines! She immediately ordered five of them, placed them outside, and stuffed them full of tickets.

After finishing this task, Lily Hart dazedly took a shower and crawled into bed to sleep.

...

The residents of Central Command who woke up early ran out of the base, full of hope.

They were disappointed to find that Boss Hart hadn’t returned, and so they dejectedly went off to kill zombies.

They would hoard more Crystal Cores and wait for Boss Hart to return so they could scratch their fill all at once!

The residents of Steadfast Base, however, were much happier. They had a wonderful sleep and woke up feeling wonderful.

They wonderfully took their Crystal Cores to the lottery shop to buy scratch-off tickets, feeling that even the sky full of yellow sand wasn’t so jarring anymore.

Their moods had improved. So this was how wonderful it was to have Boss Hart at the base entrance!

No wonder those other people didn’t want Boss Hart to leave. Who in their right mind would?

’If anyone tries, they’ll have me to answer to!’

Lily Hart had gone to bed late last night, but because she was preoccupied with the breakfast shop opening in the morning, she got up at seven-thirty.

She pulled open the curtains and yelled down, "Hey! Old man! Time to open for business!"

After shouting, Lily Hart remembered that she still didn’t know the crazy old man’s name.

’I’ll have to ask him later.’

’After all, his name isn’t ’Hey.’ It’s... what is it, again?’

There was no response from the breakfast shop. Lily Hart brushed her teeth, quickly washed her face, and went straight downstairs.

BANG BANG BANG. She pounded on the roll-up door. Soon, the door was slowly rolled up.

Revealing the crazy old man’s face, which looked exactly the same as yesterday.

Lily Hart regretted it. ’I should have made him take a shower. How can he sell breakfast when he’s this filthy?’

After opening the door, the crazy old man turned to go back to his room, looking like he had no intention of showing his face again. Lily Hart called out to him, "Why don’t you go take a shower and buy some new clothes?"

The crazy old man stopped, slowly shook his head, and was just about to refuse.

When Lily Hart grabbed him, yanked his cloth sack, and dragged him off to the bathhouse without another word.

Owen Warren was just about to open for business when the two of them locked eyes through the glass door. ’?’ ’Is Boss Hart here this early in the morning to... deliver her nails?’

He pulled the double glass doors open from the inside and chuckled. "Well, look what the cat dragged in."

His hands were still on the door handles, seemingly blocking Lily Hart from entering, but from behind, it looked as if he was pulling her into an embrace. His tone was slightly teasing.

"Get out of the way. Let this old man take a shower." Lily Hart shoved him. Her hand landed just below his chest, and Owen Warren let out a muffled grunt.

Lily Hart glared at him. ’What’s with the act? He’s hard as a rock.’

After his little grunt, Owen Warren staggered back with the force of her push, pretending she had actually moved him. Lily Hart rolled her eyes and said with a laugh, "Dude, you’re so dramatic."

"Tch~" Owen Warren scoffed, sizing up the old man behind her.

Zombies have a keen sense of smell. Even from this distance, he could smell the stench on the man. Who knew how long it had been since he’d bathed. Owen Warren mulled it over for a moment before saying with feigned difficulty, "It’ll cost extra."

"Get lost." Lily Hart didn’t hold back with Owen Warren, cursing at him lightly.

She then pointed to the men’s bathing area and said to the crazy old man, "Hurry up and go take a shower. The breakfast shop needs to open for business soon."

The crazy old man subconsciously started walking in that direction. After a few steps, he suddenly realized something and said hesitantly and slowly, "Didn’t you say... I wouldn’t have to show my face?"

"This is a breakfast shop. You can’t be all sloppy and smelly, can you? It stinks!" Lily Hart said helplessly. "Just go, old timer."

The crazy old man was relieved and felt that she had a point.

Once inside, the room was empty. He wasn’t shy, quickly stripping naked—not forgetting to set his cloth sack aside safely—and started scrubbing away.

Outside, Lily Hart said to Owen Warren, "Do you have any clothes you don’t wear? Give him a set."

Upon hearing this, Owen Warren started taking off his own shirt. The bathhouse had central air conditioning, so he was just wearing a white long-sleeved shirt. He crossed his hands, grabbed the hem, and pulled it up.

And just like that, he took it off right in front of Lily Hart...

’This guy is definitely doing it on purpose.’

’But damn, it’s nice to look at.’

’Those abs are well-defined and tight, with the occasional vein visible—not over-the-top, but not scrawny either.’

’Is this the kind of body a zombie is supposed to have?’ Lily Hart wondered as she sized him up, recalling the feeling from when she touched him. ’Not bad at all.’

Owen Warren was fine at first, but being stared at and sized up by her blatant gaze made him feel a little... flustered. But there was no way he was going to back down.
