From how dirty and emaciated they were, Ye Xuan could tell they hadn’t lived a good life.

They probably hadn’t had a decent meal for a long time.

But even with those conditions, they stuck together and protected one another.

If all humans could unite like this, then even without his wife’s intervention, they could eliminate the zombies and secure their home again.

Unfortunately, he knew that this was just a dream.

Just as the dog’s teeth were about one centimeter from his neck, its head suddenly fell to the side as blood sprayed on his back.

Everyone was shocked.

How could the dog’s head fall on its own?

On the other hand, the sword he had swang connected with the dog in front, cleaving its head in two.

It was only then that he realized he was still alive and a warm liquid was dripping from his head and back.

The overwhelming stench of blood was unmistakable. Yet, he hadn’t felt any pain.

So, where did that blood come from?

The man referred to as Xiao Jun slowly turned around. Only to see the headless body of the mutated dog lying a meter away from his position while the head was three meters away.

The mutated dogs were also shocked mid attack and stopped in their tracks.

Otherwise, with the way these people remained motionless in shock, they would have turned into corpses long ago.

"Someone has helped us. Let’s not slack off. Kill these dogs and we will have meat." Xiao Jun’s uncle, who was filled with despair a moment ago now seemed as if he had been injected with chicken blood.

He fought with so much fevere it was as if he saw hope and must grab it.

The others were the same. It seemed that they had given up long ago as they thought they wouldn’t survive, which was why they hadn’t made progress.

Now that they knew that someone was helping them in the dark and they wouldn’t die, they stopped being cautious and fought recklessly.

Ye Xuan just smiled at this sight. Yet, he appreciated these people.

If it were others, seeing that someone was willing to help, they would have put down their weapons and used moral blackmail to force him to save them.

But these people were different. They chose to save themselves and he only stepped in when someone was in real danger.

Even then, these people still tried to save each other.

They were worth saving and cultivating.

The battle lasted for two hours before the last mutated dog fell.

Unfortunately, everyone in that group carried varying injuries and without treatment, they would all succumb.

Ye Xuan had long stored his car in his space ring and was walking on foot.

He emerged from behind a tree a distance away and walked to the people who were sitting haphazardly on the ground from fatigue.

They were too tired to even stand.

Even so, the man who had shouted for the others to fight, also Xiao Jun’s uncle, forced himself to stand up.

He was so thin that it seemed a strong wind would sweep him away. Yet, his spirit was indomitable.

He bowed to Ye Xuan and thanked him.

"Benefactor, thank you for your saving grace. We have nothing we can offer you as thanks now. So, we can only promise to repay you in our next lives."

This man was astitude. He could see that Ye Xuan was no different from a healthy man before the apocalypse.

He was also clean and his clothes looked almost new.

This was someone who hadn’t suffered a day in the apocalypse.

Moreover, he was in this desolate place alone. There was only two reasons that would occur.

Either he was very strong, or he had a strong backing behind him.

Xiao Jun’s uncle leaned more towards the former.

He was one of the level five superpower users and he could feel the oppressive energy emanating from him.

That was only possible when someone was at a higher level than him and thus man was several levels higher.

Many people would offer to work for their saviours to pay the debt of gratitude but in this apocalypse where a morsel of food was bought with lives, that wouldn’t be paying a debt of gratitude but showing greed.

So, he didn’t offer to repay the debt of saving lives immediately. He could only say he would do it in his next life.

He wasn’t exactly a saint. He wanted to survive but with so many people following him and with their injuries. Without medicine, they wouldn’t survive a few days.

Their wounds would get inflamed and rot and they would soon die.

It was luck they didn’t end up in the stomachs of the mutated dogs.

Ye Xuan could tell what the man was thinking and he appreciated his integrity even more.

Looking at those around him, none of them showed a greedy expression for his belongings just because he was decent.

They all comforted each other and waited for Uncle Jun to finish speaking.

"Find a sheltered place to rest." Ye Xuan suddenly spoke.

"Uh?...oh...oh...okay." Uncle Jun was slow on the uptake but once he realized what Ye Xuan meant, he didn’t bother asking why they needed to find a sheltered place to rest.

Their lives were saved by him anyway. If he wanted them, he could just kill them.

"Everyone, let’s head to the small gas station we passed by a kilometer behind. Let’s rest there." Uncle Jun hurriedly said to his companions who didn’t argue.

Those severely injured were helped up by the lightly injured ones and they supported each other to head back.

Those with free hands each pulled a mutated dog to bring back for food.

It was only then that Ye Xuan realized that they didn’t even have a single luggage.

Did they lack anything to carry or were they robbed?

However, he didn’t ask and just followed behind them.

He didn’t know whether to say these people were lucky or unlucky.

They had stumbled in this place devoid of zombies or survivors but it was because the mutated dogs ruled here.
