Zombies were scattered on the road, but not many concentrated in one place.

When they heard the roar of the engine, they would chase the car to claim the sustenance inside.

Some still dragged their feet in a grotesque manner and their flesh was so rotten it was falling off their bodies as they walked.

Others had already evolved and save for those who had parts of their bodies chewed off before mutating, otherwise were slowly returning to human appearance, save for their greyish skin and red eyes.

Seeing that the highest level zombies were only level four, Ye Xuan didn’t even bother with the crystal cores and with a wave of his hand, he cleaved their bodies apart with bolts of lightning.

When he wasn’t using lightning, he would conjure ice spikes that pierced the zombies running towards him before freezing them into ice blocks that shattered with a little touch.

He hadn’t used his superpowers for a long time and it felt as if he was getting acquainted with them again.

Because he had been using both crystal cores and spirit stones to cultivate, some of the energy from the crystal cores had been leveling up his superpower.

Without knowing, he was already at level eight and very close to level nine.

He wasn’t sure how his superpower would fair in the Immortal Realm, but it was another form of strength.

So, he decided to upgrade it once he broke through this time. While stabilizing his new cultivation level, he will consciously absorb high-level crystal cores to upgrade his superpower to level nine.

He wasn’t sure whether a level ten was possible, but he will try to upgrade as much as possible before leaving the lower realm since he wasn’t sure whether he could advance his superpower in other planes.

This was something that resulted from the cleansing of the earth and the trace elements that superpowers need to advance might not be available in other places.

Even though he will have crystal cores, he knew that they were valuable resources for cultivation as well.

To his surprise, Ye Xuan met some survivors merging onto the highway heading to City A.

They came from other cities and had heard stories about City A, which living there was no different from before the apocalypse.

As long as there was hope, humans would not let it slip even if it meant risking their lives.

Outside a small abandoned village on the way, Ye Xuan came across a group of survivors surrounded by ten mutated dogs.

The dogs couldn’t be called dogs anymore.

They were larger than wolves with their teeth extended to nearly ten centimeters.

They also appeared sharper than knives. This was obvious from those who had already suffered injuries.

Some had chunks of flesh torn off to the point of revealing bone.

Yet, none of them have up.

From the energy fluctuations around them, Ye Xuan determined that five of them were superpower users yet only two were level five.

Two were level two and one was level three.

He wondered how after two years, some superpowered individuals were still at such a low rank. Or did they awaken recently?

That would explain their low ranks.

There was also a group of ordinary people holding their swords and fighting with abandon.

The level five superpower users were already nearing their limit while the others with a lower rank had long exhausted their abilities and were wielding weapons like the ordinary folks.

None of the mutated dogs were dead, though some were severely injured.

Yet, if they continued like this, they would all fall there.

As he watched from a distance, Ye Xuan saw a dog stealthily creep behind the level three ability user who was already tired and fighting mechanically.

Even though he was an ability user, his physical strength seemed lacking. Not even comparable to the ordinary people.

This was a result of relying heavily on superpowers during battle and neglecting physical training.

Just as the dog jumped up aiming for his neck, several people who were still fighting noticed and shouted for him to evade.

"Xiao Jun, behind you." One of the voices was especially loud, filled with emotions of despair.

Without asking, Ye Xuan could tell that the owner of the voice was related to the man.

In the apocalypse, having one relative was already a blessing. So, every relative lost, pushed you closer to remaining alone in this world.

He could understand why that voice was filled with so much anguish.

Unfortunately, the man was already facing another dog in front of him and the slightest faltering would have it tearing him to pieces.

Now, he was attacked from both sides and he could evade neither.

A despondent smile crept into his lips as he accepted his fate.

"Uncle, don’t worry about me and keep living. Having lived for two years is already a bonus. Any day lived in the apocalypse is a bonus stolen from the king of hell. So, don’t worry about me." Saying this, the man channeled the last drop of energy into his blade and swang it with all his strength.

He was using his life to take down one of the dogs to reduce the burden on the others.

However, buy completely exhausting his energy, he risked shattering his energy core.

Even if he survived, he could only become an ordinary person.

However, he clearly wasn’t worried about that since as he attacked the dog in front, he left himself completely open to the one at the back.

He knew he would die with one bite to his neck. So, he had nothing to worry about except buying his uncle and their companions some respite.

Ye Xuan was surprised that even after two years of the apocalypse where relatives turned on each other for a packet of noodles.

Husbands sold their wives for a morsel of food, and even children abandoned their parents, there were still people willing to sacrifice themselves to protect others.
