Chu Miao continued examining the map.

Several arrows pointed toward City A from different directions.

They did not originate from only one zombie stronghold.

One began at City S.

Another came from a city in the north.

There were also routes from the east and southwest.

If every marked city contained millions or tens of millions of zombies, City A could eventually face an army numbering in the hundreds of millions.

"Ah Xuan, look at the dates."

Small numbers had been written beside some of the routes.

Ye Xuan recognized them as dates after arranging them according to the modern calendar.

Some had already passed.

When he compared them to the attacks on different human bases, his expression darkened.

"This date matches the first large zombie attack on City A."

Chu Miao pointed at another.

"And this one is close to the attack on the Capital Base."

The dates were not always exact, but the difference was only a few days.

This command center had records of previous zombie movements.

The large hordes that attacked human bases had not gathered by coincidence.

They had been dispatched.

Ye Xuan had already suspected this, but seeing the evidence made the situation more serious.

"The attacks were tests," he said.

Chu Miao understood his meaning.

Each attack allowed the zombies to study how humans defended their bases.

They could determine the strength of the walls, the number of superpower users, the weapons available, and how quickly reinforcements arrived.

After every failed attack, the next horde would become larger or more organized.

"The zombies have been learning from us," Chu Miao said.

"And we assumed they only knew how to gather in hordes."

That mistake could have destroyed humanity.

If Chu Miao had not created the sect and introduced cultivation, the surviving bases would have remained dependent on superpowers, firearms, and ordinary fortifications.

Those methods might stop several million zombies.

They would not stop hundreds of millions attacking from different directions.

Chu Miao stored copies of the maps inside the Soul Ring but left the originals untouched.

She wanted to examine the entire chamber before disturbing too much evidence.

Ye Xuan moved toward the walls.

More symbols had been drawn there.

Some appeared beside crude pictures of humans, animals, and zombies.

One section showed several stages of zombie evolution.

The first figure had a rotten body and dragged one leg.

The second stood upright.

The third resembled a human except for its claws and red eyes.

The final figure looked completely human.

Above its head was a symbol resembling a crown.

Ye Xuan stared at it.

"A Zombie King?"

"Possibly," Chu Miao replied. "It could also represent their expected final stage of evolution."

Neither of them could confirm which interpretation was correct.

On another wall, figures resembling intelligent zombies stood around the crowned one.

Lines extended from its head and connected to theirs.

The drawing suggested control.

Or communication.

Chu Miao moved closer.

The lines had been drawn with a dark-red substance that still carried faint energy fluctuations.

She reached toward it before stopping.

"This contains mental energy."

"Can you trace it?"

"Not in its current state. The energy is too weak."

Ye Xuan looked toward the twelve chairs around the table.

"Perhaps the zombies that sat here received commands through that connection."

If a powerful zombie could control other intelligent zombies from a distance, it would explain how hordes in different regions moved with the same purpose.

It would also explain how the commanders in City S knew when to evacuate.

Chu Miao’s gaze swept around the chamber.

"There should be something here that maintains the connection."

They separated and began searching.

Ye Xuan examined the walls and floor, while Chu Miao inspected the table and the objects placed on it.

Most were ordinary items: maps, pens, broken communication devices, and notebooks filled with unfamiliar symbols.

However, when she moved the largest map aside, she discovered a shallow groove carved into the center of the table.

The groove was circular.

Something had been placed there recently.

A faint layer of red energy remained around its edges.

"Ah Xuan."

Ye Xuan appeared beside her.

"Something is missing," Chu Miao said.

He examined the groove.

It was about the size of a human fist.

Before the intelligent zombies evacuated, they had removed whatever had occupied that space.

"Could it have been a crystal core?" he asked.

"Not an ordinary one."

This was getting more and more complicated. This apocalypse had turned into something that not only involved hunting zombies and reclaiming humans’ territory, it now included something terrifying controlling the now natural enemy of humanity.

If this entity succeeded, humanity may truly have no hope.

Chu Miao realized that her mission to save humanity from the prophecy may not have been so simple.

Chu Miao placed her hand above the groove without touching it and released a thread of spiritual energy.

The remaining red energy reacted immediately.

It gathered into a thin line and rushed toward the wall.

The line entered the drawing of the crowned figure before spreading through the connections leading to the other zombies.

At that moment, every pale-red stone on the ceiling flickered.

A powerful mental fluctuation swept through the room.

Chu Miao and Ye Xuan raised their defenses simultaneously.

The fluctuation did not attack them.

Instead, it rushed toward the staircase as if attempting to escape.

It struck Chu Miao’s isolation array and rebounded.

The entire chamber trembled.

Cracks spread across the red stones overhead, and a deep sound echoed from beneath the floor.

It was not a roar.

Nor was it a human voice.

Yet, both Chu Miao and Ye Xuan felt a terrifying consciousness awaken somewhere far beyond City S.

The presence touched the trapped mental energy for only an instant.

Then, the remaining energy inside the chamber began destroying itself.

"Sweetheart, cut the connection!" Ye Xuan shouted.

Chu Miao immediately formed a hand seal.

Space around the table froze.

However, before her seal completely closed, the red energy condensed into the image of a single eye.

It looked directly at them.
