Leo navigated the empty streets of Rendell City. The deeper he went, the more the ambient noise faded into a heavy, suffocating silence. Stepping into an abandoned storefront, he checked his surroundings to ensure he was alone, then raised a hand.

His ordinary black jacket rippled. Darkness spread across the fabric as the material twisted and stretched. In a heartbeat, the Robe of Shroud took its true form, draping over his frame. He pulled the deep hood low. The Reaper’s Gauntlets encased his hands, and twin katanas rested across his back. Clad entirely in black, Leo merged with the shadows. His physical presence melted away until the darkness swallowed him whole.

...

Rex hadn’t been exaggerating; the western region of Rendell City was a ghost town. Leo walked the cracked pavement, eyes tracking every shadowed corner. No survivors. No vehicles. No signs of life at all. Even the familiar groans of the undead were missing.

Pausing in a narrow alleyway, Leo closed his eyes and activated Void Sense. An invisible ripple washed outward, sweeping through one building, then the next. He pushed the sensory net to its absolute limit, sifting through the emptiness. A faint disturbance caught his attention. He honed in on the source. The presence lurked in the basement of a structure a few blocks away, though the distance blurred the details.

Was it William, or a different threat?

There was only one way to find out. Leo opened his eyes and slipped back into the void.

...

He arrived outside the target building moments later—an old commercial space with shattered windows and crumbling brick. Slipping indoors, he met a wall of gloom. He pushed his Void Sense downward toward the basement, but a harsh realization hit him. His awareness slammed against an unseen barrier. No matter how hard he pushed, the basement remained a blank spot in his mind.

A chilling sensation crawled up his spine. His pupils shrank.

Something noticed me.

BOOOOM!

The floorboards beneath his feet shattered. A massive hand ruptured the concrete, its thick fingers swiping at his legs.

"Void Walk!"

Leo vanished.

BOOM!

The fist pulverized the empty air where he just stood. A second trunk-like arm tore through the floor. Reappearing a few meters back, Leo locked his gaze on the destruction.

A Brute.

BANG!

The reinforced basement door tore off its hinges. A rotting tide poured into the room—dozens of zombies, swelling into hundreds. Behind them, a hulking figure ripped the doorway wider. The Brute stepped into the light.

Standing nearly eleven feet tall, the monster’s mutated muscles strained against decaying skin. Locking eyes with Leo, it unleashed a deafening roar.

Leo didn’t hesitate. Snatching three grenades from his vest, he pulled the pins in rapid succession. He tossed the explosives into the surging horde.

"Void Walk!"

He blinked out of the room just as the blasts ripped through the air.

BOOOOM!!

BOOOOM!!

BOOOOM!!

The commercial building rattled as dust and shrapnel blew out the front windows. Shredded zombie corpses painted the walls. A furious bellow echoed from the smoke.

The Brute crashed through a load-bearing wall, showering the street with bricks. Bloodshot eyes zeroed in on Leo. The giant charged. Asphalt splintered under its heavy footfalls. A massive fist swung at Leo’s head, tearing through the air with a high-pitched whistle.

A cold light sparked in Leo’s eyes.

"Perfect."

"This is a good opportunity to test it."

Drawing both katanas, he launched one end-over-end straight at the Brute’s face. The monster shifted its thick neck, letting the steel sail past its ear.

Leo took a single step. "Void Walk."

As the Brute’s fist cratered the pavement, Leo vanished. He materialized mid-air behind the towering mutant. Reaching back, his fingers wrapped around the hilt of the flying katana just as it passed. Armed with both blades, his focus sharpened.

"Void Edge."

A black film bled over the steel, drinking the light from the edges. He pushed the Zen from his Aether Core down his arms and into the weapons. The dark aura flared, radiating a heavy, suffocating pressure.

"Shadow Sword Style..." Leo crossed his arms, coiling his muscles tight. "Cleaving Cross."

He became a blur of motion.

SHING!

Two metallic flashes cut the air as Leo passed through the Brute’s space. He landed in a crouch, his back to the monster.

Silence. Nothing happened.

Leo lowered his swords. Behind him, the Brute stood frozen.

SPLAT!

Two diagonal lines appeared across the Brute’s body, forming a perfect X. The hulking form collapsed into four separate slabs of meat, spilling dark blood across the asphalt.

Leo exhaled a long breath.

"Haa..."

"Still needs refinement."

Channeling Zen into Void Edge magnified its cutting power, but the mix felt volatile. He had leaked too much energy in the process. He needed a smoother flow.

ROOOOAR!

Guttural snarls broke his concentration. Turning back, he watched a fresh wave of undead spill from the ruined storefront. Leo tightened his grip on the twin hilts, a faint smirk touching his lips.

"Perfect."

He sprinted into the fray.

...

SHING!

A zombie fell in two pieces.

SHING!

Another lost its head.

Leo danced through the decaying mob, his blades painting deadly arcs. He kept Void Edge active but held his Zen back to conserve energy. This was a chance to practice.

Undead swarmed from all sides.

"Void Walk."

He phased out of reality, leaving grasping claws to swipe at empty air. Reappearing at the creature’s back, he removed its head with a single stroke.

A Spitter hissed a few yards away, its jaw unhinging to spray acid. Leo hurled a katana.

WHOOSH!

The steel punched clean through the mutant’s skull. Before the corpse hit the pavement—

"Void Walk."

Leo phased in next to the falling zombie, snatched his sword from its head, and vanished once more.

More bodies piled up. The horde pressed tighter, but the numbers meant nothing. Whenever a stray claw found its mark, the Robe of Shroud absorbed the impact. Leo ignored the minor blows. This wasn’t a desperate fight for survival. It was a training session.

Back in the Void Dimension, Leo had been limited by human constraints, fighting grueling one-on-one duels against foes like Gill and the Astral Master. The rules had changed. Armed with Void abilities, Zen, and an Aether Core, he needed to bridge his old martial experience with his newfound power. Raw strength meant nothing without precise execution.

Treating the undead mob as a living whetstone, Leo sharpened his craft. Every swing made his form tighter. Every Void Walk tightened his timing. Every kill brought sharper focus to his Void Edge. Conscious thought slipped away, replaced by pure instinct.

"Void Walk."

SHING!

"Void Edge."

SHING!

Another head rolled across the pavement. The horde kept swelling, feeding fresh targets into the grinder. And Leo adapted to meet them.

...

Miles away, a tall figure stood near the edge of a high-rise rooftop. Two curved black horns sprouted from its head, and long crimson hair drifted on the wind. The demon-like alien observed the ruined city below, flanked by a pack of bizarre, twisted creatures.

The leader’s golden eyes narrowed to slits as a sinister grin stretched across his face.

"The time has finally come."

His gaze locked onto the distant outskirts of Rendell City.

"The prey has arrived." He raised a single hand. "Commence the attack."

...

Across Rendell City, the silence shattered.

A cacophony of roars shook the foundations of the skyline. Zombie hordes burst from office buildings, poured out of subway stations, and flooded the decaying avenues. Hundreds swelled into thousands.

An endless tide of rotting flesh surged through the grid, united by a single, terrifying purpose. All of them marched straight for the city entrance.
