The mechanical-armed man raised his heavy blade, aligning the tip with Ars’s chest to deliver the finishing strike.

Ars stopped retreating.

He lowered his weapon, letting the tip drag against the dirt, and calmly pressed his palms together.

Inside the mechanical man’s eyes, dynamic crimson lights flickered in rapid succession.

[Warning.]

[Aether levels rapidly increasing.]

[Energy signature detected.]

[Estimated impact equivalent: Aether Bomb.]

[Immediate evacuation advised.]

The mechanical man’s brow furrowed, his grip tightening on his sword.

"An Aether Bomb?"

Before he could process the realization, a hidden mechanism beneath his boots unfolded with a harsh metallic clack. Two compact jet engines extended from his calves, and with a roaring burst of white-hot flame, the thrusters hurled his body backward through the air.

At the exact same instant, the blood altar trembled so violently that cracks spider-webbed across its stone base. A sickening crimson glow trickled from the structure, humming with a low, resonant vibration that buzzed in the teeth. Fresh blood pooled across the battlefield began to twitch, crawling through the dirt like living threads toward Ars. The crimson liquid converged beneath his boots, forming a intricate, glowing array that burned through the soil with the acrid smell of ozone and copper.

Ars tilted his head skyward, staring toward the altar. A quiet, eerie stillness settled across his features.

"Master..."

"It was an honor to serve you."

He pressed his palms together tighter until his knuckles turned white.

"Blood Bone Sacrifice."

His skin ruptured, his entire body liquefying in an instant.

A massive wall of boiling blood erupted outward, barreling across the domain like a tidal wave. The mechanical-armed man dived behind a thick slab of collapsed reinforced concrete a split second before the shockwave hit.

The crimson wave slammed into the surrounding ruins, the sheer hydraulic pressure snapping steel support beams and tearing through solid stone like paper. Huddled in the cramped shadow of the debris, the mechanical man braced his arms against the vibrating concrete, holding his breath as liquid thundered overhead.

As the roar began to fade, a sharp drop in air pressure made his skin prickle. A cold shadow fell over his back.

Before he could spin around—

A heavy, dark figure crashed straight into his shoulders. Concrete shattered, dust exploded in a blinding plume, and both bodies tumbled into the hollow darkness beneath the wreckage.

Elsewhere, the green-haired boy remained suspended in midair, his eyes locked on the giant eyeball alien.

The air around the alien vibrated with raw telekinetic force. Twisted steel rebars, crushed car frames, and boulders of concrete broke free from the earth, floating upward before hurling downward in a unified deluge.

A deafening roar echoed across the field as the debris struck, carving a deep crater into the earth and throwing up a dense curtain of gray grit. The creature’s remaining pupils darted frantically through the settling dust, searching for a broken body.

Nothing.

A light, playful voice drifted down from above.

"Aha..."

"I guess being small really does have its advantages."

The alien’s pupils locked upward.

The green-haired boy sat cross-legged on thin air, hovering comfortably above the dust cloud as he looked down with a sharp grin.

"Did you think only you could fly?"

He tapped a index finger against his own chest.

"Guess what, dumb eyeball?"

"I can too."

The alien’s pupils shrank in anger.

Behind the boy, a fan of floating knives vanished into a blur. A split second later, the air hummed around the giant creature as the blades materialized from every direction, diving toward its exposed pupils like a swarm of hornets.

A translucent barrier flared to life around the eyeball alien. The knives struck the forcefield with a series of sharp metallic ringings. Instead of bouncing off, the blades scraped along the humming barrier before suddenly punching straight through it.

One blade bit through.

A hair-thin fissure cracked open in the barrier, allowing the knife to slip through without collapsing the shield entirely. It drove straight into the jelly of an eye.

A wet pop echoed out. One pupil burst, followed instantly by another. Thick blue fluid sprayed across the inner curve of the forcefield.

"How?!"

The alien snapped its focus, constructing dense, localized shields directly in the trajectories of the incoming weapons. Several knives slammed into the localized walls and fell, but the remaining blades shifted instantly, changing direction and piercing through the localized barriers one after another.

More blades sank into flesh. More blue blood welled up and splattered onto the dirt. The creature’s movements grew erratic as it struggled to track the relentless assault.

The main barrier protecting both the alien and the blood altar flickered, its light dimming sharply. Below on the field, the hordes of mindless zombies stopped dead in their tracks, the mental threads snapping all at once. Released from the creature’s control, the horde immediately fell into chaos.

The green-haired boy’s grin widened, revealing sharp teeth.

"Now..."

"Tell me."

"Who’s the brat?"

The creature’s surviving pupils burned with rage.

"Keep being arrogant..."

The blades continued their vicious, rhythmic carving.

Without warning, a jagged column of blinding lightning tore through the overcast sky, striking the eyeball alien head-on with a deafening boom. The shockwave shattered the fragile barrier into sparkling dust, sending arcs of blue electricity crawling across the creature’s massive body as it convulsed in midair.

Behind the boy, Adrian stood atop a ruined pillar, thick power cables connecting his glowing exoskeleton directly to the lightning-attracting rig. Bright sparks showered off his armor.

Smoke and the smell of scorched flesh curled off the giant eyeball while the knives drove in deeper, tearing through the softened tissue. The boy felt the shift in momentum; victory was right in front of him.

Then—

A hair-thin line of red light flickered across his eyes.

For a fraction of a second, the battlefield dissolved.

The giant alien, the smoke, and the floating knives disappeared.

Instead, he was looking at the headless torso of a young boy standing upright in the dirt, blood steadily dripping from the clean cut on its neck ,before the knees buckled.

The green-haired boy stared blankly, his mind stalling.

"Huh?"

The playful grin melted into utter confusion.

"Isn’t that..."

"...my body?"

The instant the realization hit, his sight went completely dark.

Before the severed head could strike the red-stained dirt, a hand reached out from the shadows and caught it gently by the hair.
