Sean Raines didn’t care about that.
’Those things were never the right way to begin with. It’s a good thing they’re destroyed!’
But their greatest discovery wasn’t any of that. It was a tunnel hidden deep in the lab building’s basement, leading to the outside!
This tunnel was different from others. The moment its door was opened, an extremely foul stench billowed out, so choking it made it hard to breathe. But based on how smooth the tunnel’s interior was, it wasn’t from years of disuse. On the contrary, it seemed to be used quite frequently.
Sean Raines stared intently into the tunnel. After a long moment, something occurred to him.
"Fall back! Everyone, evacuate this area!"
The team members were confused, but they still followed his orders. Everyone, including Sean Raines himself, evacuated the lab building as fast as they could.
And just as they had gotten a little over a hundred meters away, the deafening sound of a collapse rang in everyone’s ears.
The lab building had collapsed!
"Don’t go back!"
When one of the team members tried to go back and check, Sean Raines stopped him with a low shout. Not only that, but he also led the team even farther away.
A few minutes later, something seemed to be pushing up from beneath the ruins of the lab building. The chunks of rubble and even the dust began to tremble, more and more violently, and then—BOOM!—they flew up and scattered in all directions...
From within the billowing dust, from the ruins of the lab building, something surged and leapt out!
When the figures—some walking, some leaping—appeared before Sean Raines and his team, every single member couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath!
Zombies!
They were all Zombies!
More and more of them appeared. In the blink of an eye, nearly a hundred Zombies had emerged from the ruins!
"Retreat! Go regroup with the main force!"
Sean Raines knew full well that his small squad stood no chance against so many Zombies, so he immediately gave the order.
No one lingered. They turned and ran without a moment’s hesitation.
However, a few of the faster Zombies were already catching up from behind!
Sean Raines gritted his teeth. "You guys go on ahead! I’ll hold them off! Go get Captain Monroe!"
The other team members didn’t foolishly insist on staying—that would just be serving themselves up as food for the Zombies! However, they still managed to lure two of the Zombies away.
Sean Raines sounded heroic, but inwardly, he was terrified.
’So many Zombies, and I can’t even turn invisible. I’ll have to release my own zombie to fight alongside me. Hopefully, we can hold them off for a little while!’
The situation grew increasingly dangerous. Although the Zombies farther back were a bit slower, they were still about as fast as a normal person running. Moreover, their varied shapes clearly indicated they possessed different abilities.
This was no time to be frugal. Sean Raines took out all his talisman paper and began unleashing them one by one. The Blast Talismans were the most effective; even if they couldn’t kill the Zombies, they could force them back for a moment. As for the Water Needle and Fireball Talisman Papers, it pained him to use them, but he threw them without a second thought.
By now, he was completely surrounded by the Zombies.
A particularly small Zombie, which had been on the outer edge of the horde, saw that its brethren were still unable to take down the human in their circle. A wicked, cunning light glinted in its narrow eyes. A murky liquid dripped from its drooling mouth.
Slowly, it arched its body like a drawn bow. With a single leap, it flew over its own kind and lunged toward Sean Raines!
Its ten claws were exceptionally sharp and had a deep, bluish-green sheen. They aimed straight for Sean Raines’s head!
