Aiden suddenly heard a scowl from deep in the cave.
Before he could move, something whipped past him, coiled around him, and yanked him into the cave. He was completely powerless against it.
It was some sort of tail. However, for some reason, the tail suddenly let go of him and retreated. He fell into an open area in the cave. The open area was as large as a room. The ceilings were completely high.
"Shit," Aiden cursed as he stood up. "What the hell was that?"
He tried using his enhanced vision, smell, and sight to locate where the tail that whipped past him came from, or even a direction towards the route through which he arrived here.
"Strange. Not even my enhanced senses can help me see, hear, or smell much in this cave. The fog and lack of visibility here is so dense that my abnormal senses are not even helping me? I can see, sense, and smell what’s a few meters away from me, but the further I try to see, the more difficult it becomes. I can only rely on my combat instincts to navigate this place," Aiden thought.
He looked around him.
Several bones of chaotic beasts lay sprawled across the place. There were no fresh corpses.
"This should be some sort of lair for some apex predator. The tail that yanked me in here must have belonged to them. But for some reason, before they could bring me to their actual location, their tail dropped me here. Could it be that it’s injured and for that reason it couldn’t muster the strength to carry me to where it is? That makes a lot of sense. If it’s injured, chewing human meat can help it grow stronger. That process will naturally accelerate its recovery." Upon theorising this possibility, Aiden felt a chill crawl up his spine.
If his theory was on point, then this place was a ticking time bomb. If he didn’t find a way out of this place, he would be killed.
He looked around the open area more.
He saw nothing else other than the large bones of the chaotic beasts.
"I need to explore this place or I’ll be stuck here for a very long time," Aiden thought.
With the ability to at least see, smell, and hear a few meters from him, he could be more careful.
Aiden walked towards a particular direction in the open area.
He squinted his eyes. There was something in the walls.
Immediately, Aiden’s combat instincts kicked in.
He performed a backflip and arced backwards.
What he saw left him shocked.
Blood sucking bats. He had read about them.
By the time they would be done with you, you would look like a pale white, emaciated corpse. They would suck up all your blood. They had an uncanny ability to smell blood, whether flowing in a living active lifeform or across the vicinity. Trying to prevent blood from spilling in the area would not stop them. As long as you were in their vicinity, they would locate you and hunt you.
What was worse about them was that they always moved in a herd of at least a thousand.
They were hiding in the walls. They were so subtle and covert that one would not notice their presence.
Aiden noticed that they were all beginner rank 3 chaotic beasts.
He knew he could not escape these creatures. It was meaningless to try and hide from them. As long as you had blood flowing through you, they would find you.
As soon as he spoke, he took out a vial of beginner rank 3 lethal gaseous poison and crushed it.
Then, he ran towards a route he saw that led out of the open area. He didn’t even wait for the poisons to come into contact with him. If that happened, he would also die.
Aiden had figured out that poisons at his level of power could not work on him. Or rather, they’d work, but because of his absurd healing and regeneration, their effects would wear off by the microsecond. For instance, his power was currently at the level of a legendary rank 2 warrior. If a legendary rank 2 poison was used to attack him, nothing would happen to him.
However, if he came into contact with a rank 3 poison, it would be a different story. He would die. During his time in the alchemist association of Emrea City, he experimented. He lost control of his senses completely after using a beginner rank 3 sense dwarfing poison.
He had already purchased an antidote, the only one he could buy. He had it injected by an AI bot in a suite he hired in the association. Only then did the effects wear off.
He performed this experiment because he needed to understand the limits of his power now so that he does not get himself killed in the future.
Had he not done that, perhaps he would have thought that the beginner rank 3 poisons he had released to kill the bats could not harm him. He would have stayed in the open area and would have died.
As Aiden passed through the narrow cave route that led him away from the open area, he scanned a few meters ahead of him. So far, no threats were ahead. No bats were hiding in the walls either.
The silence stretched on endlessly.
A crimson winged man in crimson armor, holding two crimson daggers, was the only person whose elusive, swift movements quietly resounded across the place.
Aiden didn’t know what happened to the blood sucking bats, and he didn’t care.
Or so he thought.
Squeak!
Suddenly, a beginner rank 3 blood sucking bat shot towards him.
Aiden flapped his crimson wings and shifted to the side.
He managed to evade the creature.
But he knew they moved in packs of at least a thousand. It meant more followed.
The beginner rank 3 poison he had left behind didn’t work on them. For some strange reason, these creatures were naturally immune to poisons.
Shit, Aiden cursed.
Aiden didn’t give the creature a chance to attack him. A single contact with these bats and they will suck his blood in seconds.
They just had to make contact with you to suck you dry.
The bat turned and looked at him.
Aiden knew the rest of the pack were headed to his location.
He had to kill a beginner rank 3 chaotic beast, and flee the horde moving towards him from behind, whether he liked it or not.
