Ascension Of The Blood Supreme

As Aiden flapped his crimson wings and dropped into the pit, a bone-chilling cold hit him like a physical wall.

The transition was instant. The dense fog and stifling humidity that had clouded his vision in the narrow corridors vanished. The terrifying sub-zero aura had frozen the very moisture out of the air. This had caused the mist to condense. The mist had turned into tiny frost crystals that had settled to normal.

Aiden’s visibility returned to normal. His enhanced vision, his smell and hearing was returning to normal, the deeper he descended into the chasm below.

"That’s quite fortunate," Aiden sighed. He would be able to appreciate his surroundings and plan on how to get rid of whatever monstrosity was hiding down there.

His enhanced senses finally returned fully. He looked below.

It was a massive, amphitheater-sized chamber. The chasm was as large as a city district, stretching far and wide for several kilometers.

It was coated in thick sheets of pale-blue ice. Natural cerulean ice crystals were embedded in the walls.

And right in the center lay the apex predator.

It was a ginormous lion.

Its fur was extremely white, like fresh snow. However, they looked firm, hard and spiky, as if they could pierce through someone and impale them.

But what caught Aiden’s attention the most were its tails. There were nine of them.

The tails were thick and looked like whips. They were shaped like jagged terrains with protrusions running through them.

"I was lucky. The part of the tail that yanked me into the cave didn’t have the protrusions. That was the edge of one of the tails. Also, it’s a legendary rank 3 creature." Aiden swallowed saliva hard. He realized he could have died, just by the creature yanking him into the cave with one of its tails.

Heavy vibrations shook the cavern floor with every raspy breath the creature took.

Aiden’s eyes narrowed as he observed the environment.

Aiden saw large bones lying not too far from the nine tailed lion. The flesh had completely disappeared. Only bones remained.

"From the look of the bones, it was a creature of equal strength to the lion. The lion must have fought it in the past. It was most likely the creature that wounded it," Aiden thought.

A glint flashed through Aiden’s eyes as a crazy idea formed in his mind as his gaze shifted to the lion’s colossal body.

Across the left part of its body, was a massive, tearing wound.

Dark-blue blood oozed out. The blood froze into jagged icicles before it could even hit the ground due to the sub zero temperature here.

The creature was mortally wounded.

Aiden landed in the cave and hid somewhere behind a large icicle.

Suddenly, two radiant, glacial-blue eyes snapped open in the dark.

The Nine-Tailed Frost Lion locked its gaze on the icicle.

A low, subterranean growl traveled through the cavern. The sound vibrated right throughout the cave and Aiden.

Even in its dying state, the pressure of a Legendary Rank 3 chaotic beast was suffocating.

"Of course it saw me. Who am I kidding? This creature was able to see me when I was outside the cave and yanked me into the cave. And here I am, trying to hide from it?" Aiden chuckled inwardly at his own absurdity.

Aiden observed the creature. When it saw him, it didn’t act. It couldn’t. Its previous attempt to get Aiden and eat him had proved futile.

This human was too difficult to kill. It had been observing the human throughout his time in the cave. Though the human had initially survived because the nine tailed frost lion was weakened and couldn’t yank the human towards it to chew it, the human was extremely stubborn. The human didn’t want to die. Even when he attempted with his last remaining strength to grab the human and eat it he actually managed to escape.

The lion knew it was on its last legs. But it wouldn’t let this human weakling kill it. It was a prideful creature. Even if it had to die, not at the hands of a human. It wanted to kill the human before it died, even if it couldn’t chew the human to hasten its recovery.

It roared.

When it roared, the cave shook. Massive ice balls shot out of its mouth towards Aiden from all directions.

Aiden moved. He flapped his crimson wings and flew across the place, narrowly evading the ice balls of the lion headed towards him from all angles.

Because the creature was weakened, its attacks were weakened. This was why Aiden was able to evade the attacks.

However he was not faring well. Several parts of his body were freezing all over. His movements were growing dull. His organs were freezing. His Monstrous healing and regeneration kicked in. But it was struggling to keep up with the rate at which his organs were freezing.

"A legendary rank 3 creature is a legendary rank 3 creature. The attacks are not landing since I’m evading them. But just the fact they are passing around me is making my body freeze," Aiden thought. "I need to initiate the plan, kill it and leave this place, else, I will freeze to death here."

Aiden arced gracefully towards the bones laying not too close from the lion.

A massive ice ball slammed into him, sending him crushing into the bones.

Aiden gritted his teeth as he lay sprawled on the ground, body almost frozen. By now, only his face was not completely frozen. He estimated that in the next 1 minute, his heart would stop if he didn’t kill this creature.

But letting the ice ball slam him into the bones was part of his plan. It had shortened the distance he would use to near the bones.

He lay still and faked death to make the lion let down its guard.

The nine tailed legendary rank 3 frost lion snickered. The human was dead.

The ice balls turned into ice dust and disappeared.

The lion roared weakly and closed its eyes.

It really wanted to extend its tails to grab the human and eat it. But it was too weak. It would close its eyes, get some sleep and recover for a while. When its energy returned, it would use its tail to grab and gobble up the dead frozen human and recover.

A glint of hope flashed through its eyes. Turns out it wouldn’t die here.

It would have revenge for what those foxes did to it soon.

Suddenly, Aiden’s crimson bladed chains transformed into a large crimson hand before Aiden when the creature closed its eyes to sleep.

He had only forty seconds left before he died.

His abnormal healing and regeneration was attempting to fight the freezing. This was why the freezing process had slowed down. Else, he would have been dead.

The large crimson hand tore out the spine part of the bones laying close to the nine tailed legendary rank 3 frost lion.

The spine had extremely sharp, serrated edges.

The crimson hand holding the spine shot towards the large wound in the left side of the creature’s body.

Because the lion was asleep, and had let its guard down, it could not retaliate in time.

The large spine pierced through the wound, and drilled inwards. The crimson hand followed the spine and entered the body of the lion through the open wound, propelling the large spine upwards in the lion’s body.

Suddenly, it woke up and trashed around as it wailed weakly. Color drained from its eyes as its vision grew hazy.

It felt something pierce through its organs upwards. Then, something pierced into its brain.

It looked at the human laying in the ice one last time and the bones one last time.

It saw the human cough a mouthful of blood.

The human was not dead.

The spine of the fox he had killed 100 years ago, the bastard that wounded it, was also gone.

The human had tricked it!

The human had planned everything from the beginning. Anticipated all its moves.

What a terrifying human!

Damn it! The lion couldn’t accept this!

But it was too late.

Puchi...

The spine finally destroyed its brain. It breathed its last and stopped moving.

It was dead.

The ice that had frozen Aiden melted away, since its maker was dead.

"Five seconds more and I would have been dead," Aiden sighed in relief as he lay on the ice cold floor, in the giant bones of whatever creature the lion had fought years ago.
