Ascension Of The Blood Supreme

Chapter 173. Change in management

The elevator doors opened with a squeak. Aiden stepped onto the third floor.

The hallway smelled like old smoke and wet floor mats. Light bulbs flickered on the ceiling, making long shadows dance on the floor. Aiden walked slowly with his hands in his hoodie pockets, making almost no sound as he walked to Room 302.

He tapped his black keycard on the reader. The door clicked, and he stepped inside.

He stood still for three seconds to scan the room.

Everything looked normal—a bed, a sofa, a mini-fridge, a TV on the wall, and a cheap noise-isolation device mounted in the corner. Aiden knew how these devices worked. This one was altered. It would keep sounds from leaving the room, but it wouldn’t stop anyone from picking the door lock. It was set up so a murder inside wouldn’t alert the rest of the lodge.

"How meticulous," Aiden shook his head.

Aiden walked over and turned on the TV to cover any background noise. A local news report played softly.

He went into the bathroom, stripped off his dusty hoodie, and took a hot shower. He felt extremely refreshed. He hasn’t taken a bath in a while, courtesy of the desert and zone zero.

After drying off, he wrapped a towel around his waist and looked at himself in the mirror. His crimson eyes stared back at him.

The receptionist had taken the bait. In a trashy town like this, a rich kid paying cash was easy prey. The receptionist was obviously setting him up for a night robbery.

Aiden walked out of the bathroom. He changed into summer shorts, a t-shirt, and some slippers. After that, he sat on the couch.

He observed and listened to the conversation between the receptionist and someone. The receptionist was talking to the person in an alley behind the lodge.

"Lodgekeeper, got any targets lately?" A tall, lanky dude said.

"Why else will I be here?" The receptionist, who was apparently the lodgekeeper, said.

The tall, lanky dude snickered. "Well, the usual, right? We take 70 percent of the money and you keep 30 percent of it?"

"Don’t you think you guys are cheating me?" The lodgekeeper said.

"Tsk. If you are so determined to earn more, go after the target yourself," the tall, lanky fellow said.

"Alright, alright. I’m just the owner of the lodge. If I go around killing people myself, how can I get customers?" The lodgekeeper replied.

"Good. We will strike at midnight," the tall, lanky dude said. After that, he walked off. The lodgekeeper also turned and returned to the lodge.

Aiden observed everything calmly as he read an online novel on his phone.

By midnight, the residents of the lodge had gone to sleep. Only the Lodgekeeper remained in the lobby. He was wiping glasses with a towel.

Several hours later, he saw several people flickering towards his room like phantoms.

Outside Room 302, a tiny electronic tool clicked. The lock beeped and opened.

Three thugs in dark leather jackets slipped into the room. The lights were on.

Someone was seated on the couch, watching television. He matched the description the lodgekeeper had given to them.

"What took you guys so long?" Aiden stared at them as he spoke with polite indifference.

Before the leader could understand what was going on, extreme pain shot through his skull all the way to the back of his head. His vision blurred. A dull thud resounded as he fell on the floor.

Before a pool of his blood fell on the ground, Aiden absorbed his blood essence and put him in his storage bracelet. He did not want the guy’s blood to dirty his floor.

The other fellows were completely shocked at what they had just witnessed. Their boss, a legendary rank 1 warrior, had been killed just like that. The man did not even move! Nor did they even see him attack! This person was not someone to be trifled with.

Wait... when their boss was killed, a tiny dot appeared on his forehead all the way to the back of his head.

Did this killing nature not match the description of the assassin who killed the enforcers at the gate?

Was it him? This unassuming fellow?

Shit... who the hell had they messed with?

The group turned around, and manifested their affinities beneath their feet, attempting to flee.

However, Aiden’s microscopic crimson arrows shot through the back of their heads to their foreheads. Their eyes turned lifeless. They were dead. He absorbed the blood essence of their corpses and sent them into his storage bracelet. He didn’t want their blood to dirty his floor.

Within ten seconds, the group of expert and legendary rank 1 assailants had been eliminated completely.

The floor was completely clean. The TV was still playing the news.

"Free blood essence is really convenient," he thought.

"Might as well take over the lodge. Being a lodgekeeper can be a good way to kill guests and absorb their blood essence," Aiden thought.

He brushed his hair and stepped into the elevator, heading down to the lobby in his summer pants, t-shirt, and slippers.

The lobby was dead quiet. The burly lodgekeeper was leaning back in his leather chair behind the counter, waiting for his cut.

The elevator doors opened. The lodgekeeper looked up, expecting his hitmen.

Instead, he saw Aiden walking calmly toward the counter.

The black-haired youngster was not dead?

This could only mean he killed the hitmen? They were legendary rank 1 warriors. How could he kill them?

He had miscalculated. This fellow was not weak! He was a monster. A slumbering predator.

It was obvious that the man had probably seen through his plan from the very beginning.

Shit... He had messed with the wrong person.

He did not even attempt to fight back.

Thump.

He knelt down and kowtowed.

"Senior, it was all a misunderstanding. A big misunderstanding. This junior will do anything you ask!"

Aiden walked towards him with polite indifference.

"Why apologize when you were only trying to do business?" Aiden said politely, voice calm.

A microscopic crimson arrow shot across the counter and punched straight through the center of his forehead, leaving a tiny dot which went all the way to the back of his head there.

The lodgekeeper went stiff.

"When... how... did he attack...?" His vision blanketed.

He was dead. Before he fell on the counter, Aiden absorbed his blood essence and sent him into his storage bracelet. Again, he didn’t want to make the place dirty. What if a customer walked in? It was not good for business.

The microscopic crimson arrow turned into a microscopic blob of blood and returned into Aiden.

He grabbed the lodgekeeper’s master keycard and main control tablet.

Aiden walked behind the desk and sat down in the big leather chair. He tapped the screen a few times, taking total control of the lodge’s cameras, locks, and system accounts.

He looked through the front glass doors at the empty dark street outside.

He checked the system calendar on the screen.

29 days until the MadCity transport arrives.

Aiden leaned back, put his hands in his pockets, and waited.

The old lodgekeeper was gone. The new Lodgekeeper was in charge now.
