Rustwater Town.

Central District.

Rustwater lodge. Nighttime.

The Rustwater Lodge was completely booked.

A large queue hung out of the lodge.

Over the past two weeks, the reputation of the Rustwater lodge had spread throughout the town.

Apart from the fact that the ridiculous lodgekeeper didn’t run housekeeping, cooking and cleaning services in his lodge, staying in the Rustwater Lodge had one special advantage.

No one would dare harm those who entered the doors of the lodge. This did not happen because the lodgekeeper wanted to protect his customers. He simply didn’t want someone to destroy his business environment.

The safety the lodge residents enjoyed was just a byproduct of the lodgekeeper’s no-nonsense personality towards those who thought they could cause trouble in his lodge.

Several who thought the reputation of the Lodgekeeper was just rumors had tried to cause trouble in the lodge over the course of the past two weeks, but the lodgekeeper had killed them all. As usual, he did it without getting out of his chair at the counter, and most of the time, he would be busy on his phone as bodies fell down on the floor mysteriously.

In a town where robbing, killing and abuse was the order of the day, those who had enemies across town found the Rustwater Lodge of the Central district a haven of safety.

No matter who their enemies were, because of the established reputation of the mysterious ruthless Lodgekeeper over the course of these few weeks, the moment they stepped into the lodge, their enemies wouldn’t dare to cause trouble for them.

This was why there was a large queue outside the lodge at the moment.

Suddenly, the blue-eyed, black-haired lodgekeeper stood up.

"Ladies and gentlemen, if you are not a resident of the lodge, we are closed for the night," the lodgekeeper announced.

It was currently 8pm.

"He’s closing?"

"That sucks."

"Yeah. I’m hiding from some fuckers."

"Too bad for you. You can just order a room then?"

"Not really. The lodge is completely booked."

"Sigh. All the best out there."

"Yeah. This lodge is the only place in town where even town enforcers have to be polite to the lodgekeeper when collecting weekly taxes. They don’t dare misbehave."

"Quick, since we are not lodge residents, let’s leave. We can’t anger this polite psychopath of a lodgekeeper else we will die before we even know how. There are even rumors that he kills people with his mind."

"Yeah, let’s leave."

The lodge residents watched as those who were chilling in the lounge/lobby and were not residents of the lodge left.

"This is the first time I’ve seen something like this. They are unwilling to leave. Look at the queue out there," Dickinson sighed.

"I know, right... this lodgekeeper is really something else," another resident of the lodge said.

When the group leaving the lodge stepped out, those in the queue outside the lodge were quite disappointed that the place was fully booked.

"What’s going on? Has he closed?"

"Yeah."

"Which lodge closes at 8pm? What the hell is up with this lodgekeeper? He’s always doing unexpected things."

"Perhaps this is what makes his lodge special. Keep quiet. What if he hears you insulting him and he kills you? He’s extremely powerful... they are not just rumors. This guy can actually kill people without moving a muscle. Not only that, you won’t even see him launch any attack. If he wants someone dead, they’d just fall down and die."

"Sigh. You are right. Let’s return tomorrow. If you don’t follow the rules here, you are dead meat. Since he’s closed, let’s not anger him."

Suddenly, the people who had formed the queue decided to disperse.

However, they saw four people, three men and a woman approaching.

They were all expert rank 2 warriors!

Several groups of people followed them, numbering the hundreds.

"Are those not the lodgekeepers of the other lodges in the other districts?"

"What are they doing here?"

"Heh. Rumors are that their business has gone down ever since this lodgekeeper took over the Rustwater lodge."

"I see. Perhaps they want to get rid of him in order to revive their businesses?"

"I think so. But look, they are all expert rank 2 warriors!"

"What????! Wait... that’s true... When did they break through? Does it mean that they are as powerful as the town Lord now?"

"Who knows... but I don’t think so. The town Lord is an extremely powerful person. I am sure he can kill these four lodgekeepers with their entourage combined in a single attack."

"Indeed. But can the lodgekeeper handle them?"

"Yeah, he’s strong but, the rumors are that he’s at most an advanced rank 2 warrior."

"Quick, let’s see how things will turn out."

A commotion brewed among the crowd outside the Rustwater lodge.

The chatter was so loud that even the residents of the lodge in the lounge heard it.

"We are done for!"

"Shit... I guess we need to leave the lodge."

"Yeah, else we will be caught up in whatever happens between those expert rank 2 warriors and the lodgekeeper."

"Look at the lodgekeeper. Don’t you think he’s too relaxed?" Dickinson smiled.

The other residents realized what he was saying was true.

Did this mean that the lodgekeeper could take them on?

"Now that you mention it, with the way he kills people effortlessly, I don’t think we’ve even seen a fraction of his power."

"Yeah."

"I’m sure he will take care of his enemies," Dickinson said. As a son of one of the former district lords of MadCity, he had seen his fair share of rank 2 warriors in MadCity. Naturally, he had a strong intuition towards assessing someone’s strength. Although the lodgekeeper was a veil shrouded in mystery, he had long deduced that the man was definitely a legendary rank 2 warrior.

Everyone looked at Dickinson. They didn’t know who this guy was or where he was from.

But he spoke with confidence.

They could not help but believe in his words, especially considering how unbothered the lodgekeeper himself was.

"Forget it. Even if we leave the lodge, only trouble awaits us out there."

"Yeah. All of us are hiding here to flee from our enemies."

"That’s true."

They decided to remain in the lodge. Even if they ran away, the situation out there was not favorable for them. Also, if the lodgekeeper was able to take care of those people marching towards the lodge, their safety in the lodge would still persist. Staying in the lodge was the better option.

Under their gazes, the lodgekeeper stood up.

Free blood essence, Aiden thought as he walked out of the lodge.

When he came out, the crowd of people that previously formed the queue stood away from the entrance.

They were all looking at the expert rank 2 warriors and their approaching entourage.

However, the moment they saw the lodgekeeper, they were shocked.

He looked extremely normal. This was the mysterious lodgekeeper?

But there was something unsettling about the way his blue eyes stared at the approaching expert rank 2 warriors and their entourage.

His eyes were too calm...

"It’s him."

"Is he really planning on taking them on alone?"

Finally, the group of other lodgekeepers and their entourage were a few meters away from him.

"Lodgekeeper, I suppose someone of your reputation can piece together why we are here. This is simply business, nothing personal," the northern district lodgekeeper spoke as he equipped his battlesuit. Earth bullets formed and floated close to him.

The others nodded. In their battlesuits, they manifested different affinities, wind, ice, wood, and prepared different attacks. A wind wheel. An ice arrow. A wooden blade.

Their entourage also prepared various affinity attacks.

The crowd watched. The sheer scale of these attacks could kill them. But the lodgekeeper was calm. His hands were in his pockets. He sat on the staircase that led into the lodge.

"Fair point," Aiden said with a shrug, his voice polite and calm.

What happened next was something the Rustwater town residents would never forget.
