The next morning, news about what happened between the Lodgekeeper of Rustwater Lodge and the other lodgekeepers spread throughout Rustwater town.
Many were shocked at the turn of events and the powerful strength of the mysterious lodgekeeper.
He had actually slaughtered four expert rank 2 warriors and their entourage without even lifting a single finger? How terrifying was he?
This level of strength was really abnormal.
He was either as strong as the town Lord or he was even more powerful than him.
As for the lodges of the lodgekeepers he killed, no local gangs dared to claim it for themselves. They were afraid that the lodgekeeper would kill them in a fit of anger for claiming his spoils of war.
Perhaps, only the town Lord would dare claim the Lodgekeeper’s spoils of war for himself.
***
Rustwater Town.
Northern District.
Town Lord residence.
Vanity was staring at a video playing on the fall screen on the wall.
"This man is powerful. I need to be on his good side. He’s either a legendary rank 2 warrior, or he’s a terrifying expert rank 2 warrior. With the way he killed them effortlessly, it’s as if he didn’t even demonstrate an iota of his strength. Just who the hell is he?"
Suddenly, someone barged into the hall with an apprehensive expression on his face.
"Sir... we have a problem," the town enforcer spoke with fear plastered on his face.
"Speak," Vanity said.
"Some of our scouts have picked up signs of a possible beast tide," the enforcer said.
"How serious is it?" Vanity replied. There was no need to panic. What mattered was finding a solution to the problem.
"Thousand expert rank 2 sandworms sir... we haven’t noticed a horde commander yet. But it’s possible they are hiding in the sand. The location they were spotted is North West of here," the enforcer said.
"Thousand expert rank 2 chaotic beasts..." Vanity was scared. Previously, he was calm. But this... was not something even he could handle. A thousand expert rank 2 sandworms. This was something beyond him. Only a legendary rank 2 warrior could handle threats at that level. But, this town didn’t have a legendary rank 2 warrior. He was the most powerful person here. As for City Lord Mad Max, there was no way he’d waste his time to come here when he was managing a whole city.
This meant that Vanity was on his own.
Wait... unless.
"What if he’s actually a legendary rank 2 warrior?" He muttered.
He turned to look at the enforcer.
"Prepare the strike team and wait at the gates."
The enforcer nodded, "Sir," and left.
Vanity sighed.
"Seriously, a beauty is waiting for me in the bedroom, and now, this happens..."
He stood up. Wings of blue flames formed on his back. He flapped his wings and flew out of the eastern district. He was on his way to see the lodgekeeper.
*****
Aiden had just stepped out of Rustwater Lodge in a casual shirt, jeans and sneakers.
He was closed for today. He was headed out of town to hunt for chaotic beasts.
Several people had formed a queue at the entrance of the lodge. They looked at him with reverence and fear. Obviously, the incident of last night had spread throughout the whole town.
"We are closed for today, ladies and gentlemen," Aiden said.
"Yes... senior," the crowd sighed respectfully. They really had bad luck. Just when they had arrived early to secure a room in the lodge, the lodgekeeper had closed the lodge today.
They were just about to leave the place when someone landed in front of the lodge.
The moment they saw the person, they were completely shocked.
This was the town Lord!
Town Lord Vanity?
What the hell was he doing here?
The group of people bowed politely to the town Lord. Although they were curious about why he was visiting the Rustwater lodge, they assumed it was as a result of the incident last night.
"He must be here to ask the Lodgekeeper’s opinion on the lodges," they thought as they scurried off.
Vanity sized up the lodgekeeper. He looked completely ordinary.
But Vanity felt a sense of unease stronger than anything he had ever felt in the presence of any legendary rank 2 warrior he had ever come across.
Not even Mad Max made him feel this way.
"This man is more terrifying than Mad Max. He’s definitely a legendary rank 2 warrior!"
A glint of hope flashed through Vanity’s eyes.
"Senior, I would like to have a word with you, if you have the time," Vanity said.
"Alright. Let’s talk inside," Aiden said.
"Please..." Vanity replied.
Aiden led him into the lodge.
"Drinks?" Aiden asked.
"Not in the mood actually," Vanity replied warmly.
"Alright." Aiden led him to the couch. They both sat down.
"Senior, I know I am in no position to ask for your help. But... the town is about to face a chaotic beast tide of expert rank 2 sandworms. My suspicion is that the beast tide is led by legendary rank 2 horde commanders. My current strength cannot handle it. If you don’t help us, we will all die. Please." Vanity was even about to kneel down.
Aiden found Vanity’s attempt to kneel down and beg him, cringe.
He stopped him as soon as possible.
"Sir, that’s not necessary," Aiden replied politely.
Vanity nodded and sat down. He didn’t want to die. He had worked too hard to get this far.. Whatever the Lodgekeeper asked, he would do. As long as he could preserve his life and the town, he would do anything. Not because he had a hero complex. The only way for him to make money and survive was if the town was full of people. If the residents died, he was fucked.
This was why he was even willing to beg this senior for help.
As for Aiden, a glint flashed through his eyes.
A chaotic beast tide?
Interesting.
"Free blood essence," he thought, "right to my doorstep."
It seemed he didn’t even have to step out of town. The chaotic beasts were coming to him.
