Inside the cave, Arthur lay still, deep asleep and completely oblivious to the fight happening outside. Before Valerian went and engaged the wyverns, he made sure to use the sound element to create a barrier that kept all the noise outside so his fight wouldn’t disturb Arthur.
He was asleep peacefully when his eyes began to twitch. As they opened and his crimson eyes met the dark cave, he immediately noticed that Valerian wasn’t there, but then he remembered what had happened before he fell asleep and a small smile found its way onto his face.
’Seriously, how can someone like him act like a tsundere?’
Standing up, Arthur created a ball of fire to light the cave. Rolling his shoulders, he walked towards the exit of the cave.
’I should be back to 100%. Now, let’s go find that S+.’
As he got closer to the exit, he felt a small layer of mana covering the cave. The mana was so finely spread that he was only able to feel it once he got closer.
’Hmm? Why did he cast a spell on the cave?’
As the layer was only to keep the sound out, Arthur was able to just walk right through it without any problem.
As he left the cave, he saw the forest and the first thing that reached his mind was:
’What is this battlefield?? Did monsters show up?’
The forest that had been covering the surroundings as far as one could see was destroyed, with large patches of trees uprooted. There was even a massive crater with something light blue at the center, but from the distance, it looked like a small patch in the large devastation.
But the thing that took his attention was a massive pillar of clear blue ice that stretched into the clouds. It was so high that he couldn’t see the end of it from his point of view, and it was roughly 20 meters in diameter.
„What is that??!"
Arthur was shocked at the massive pillar, and the thought of the destruction it could wreck if it were to be dropped from the sky sent shivers down his spine.
„Finally awake? Let’s go, I’m getting bored."
Upon hearing the voice, Arthur turned to the direction it was coming from, and there he saw the culprit of the destruction.
Valerian was sitting on a large throne made from clear light-blue ice that shone in the sunlight. Even though it must have been under the sun for quite some time, it didn’t show any signs of melting. Cold mist was rolling off it, freezing the air around it, and Arthur began to shiver lightly just from standing meters away.
Valerian sat on it like the cold didn’t bother him one bit, one leg over the other and his elbow rested on one of the armrests, with his fist supporting his cheek. He was casually eating another apple he pulled from who knows where as he lazily waited for Arthur to come back to reality.
„What the fuck happened here? I was only out for a few hours."
Valerian finished the apple and threw the core down the cliff into the forest below. As he stood up, the throne melted away and turned into fine light-blue mana particles. Even though the ice throne was gone, the cold air was still gnawing at Arthur, but now it wasn’t more than a cold breeze.
„More of the wyverns came, and I, in all my glory and kindness, protected you."
Valerian answered with a grin, sweeping a hand through his long silver-white hair.
Just seeing the grin and the casual gesture, Arthur’s mood turned annoyed as Valerian’s SSS-rank charm met a hard wall.
„Fuck off. So, let me guess, you stole the ice element from one of them, you show-off. What is even the point of the ice pillar?"
Seeing his charm just be deflected, Valerian chuckled lightly and recounted the encounter with the wyvern group.
After he took the ice affinity from the leader, he wanted to test out the might of his new power and made the pillar that was now decorating the landscape. But even with his large mana pool and higher quality of mana, creating such a large pillar took quite the toll on his reserves.
So he just made the throne and waited for Arthur to wake up, which led to the situation they are in now.
„So? Your ice must be different, as your lightning and darkness became this weird variant."
With a proud smile, Valerian pointed his nose to the sky.
„Why don’t you take a look for yourself?"
Arthur sighed but complied.

Unlike normal ice, which is dark or cloudy, Absolute Zero is a blindingly bright, radiant light-blue. It is the erasure of energy; it removes the fundamental movement of atoms instead of just freezing moisture. It creates indestructible, prism-like crystals that lock everything in place, completely freezing both physical targets and magic.]
Arthur let out a sigh.
„I feel like I’m falling behind more and more. We have to find the S+ as soon as possible."
Understanding the resolve to not fall behind even more than he already is, Valerian agreed and they prepared to go on the search.
„I don’t think it will take too long. I can take you with me in my flight, and my perception range is large enough."
„How big is your range?" Arthur asked curiously.
„Around 50km."
„..." Arthur let out a defeated sigh. „Of course it is. Let’s just get going."
Laughing, Valerian enveloped Arthur with his mana and lifted him into the air. They ascended to around 400 meters in height. When they reached the desired altitude, they exploded with a speed that broke the sound barrier, accelerating even beyond that.
Arthur was stunned at the speed at which they traveled. Seeing the forest pass by underneath him, he couldn’t help but think back to Earth, and a cold realization set in.
’If Valerian were on Earth, there would be nothing that could stop him. He alone could conquer Earth in maybe a day...’
From his titanic strength and physical abilities granted by his physique, to his magical abilities, there was nothing on Earth, no bomb or gun, that could stop him.
During the time Arthur was lost in his thoughts, they covered dozens of kilometers, all the while Valerian was pushing his perception to its max. The sheer information flowing into his brain would melt anyone else’s brain, but his mana brain and bloodline made it bearable—not easy, as the insane amount of information that comes with a 50km diameter and the speed of travel still gave him a headache.
While they traveled, they passed a lot of monsters, some strong reaching S-rank, but most weak, barely B-. There were even 3-4 S+ rank beasts that edged Valerian’s perception, but he deliberately ignored them, because he didn’t want Arthur to just fight another large monster.
He wanted to find an opponent that could challenge Arthur’s magic problem, not some beast that he could just beat with a big enough fire ball. He needed something that defied the standard fighting style Arthur got used to.
But obviously, finding such a unique creature wasn’t easy, and that the beast’s rank had to be S+, not one sub-rank below or above, made it even harder.
But the Voidwoods were big enough that even though these beasts were extremely rare, there were countless of them inside the ever-expanding forest.
Unfortunately, even though they had been traveling for hours at this point, they didn’t find a single beast that fit the description.
Seeing that the sun was setting, Valerian began to descend, as even though he was extremely confident in his abilities and strength, he didn’t dare to risk it inside the place where beasts beyond the mortal ranks lived and hunted.
But finding a place that was safe inside the forest wasn’t an easy task, as there was no truly safe spot. Even the cave that Arthur used as a place to sleep, Arthur was only able to find it thanks to his system which led him there.
They were on a timer; they had to find shelter before the sun was fully set and night began. But no matter how much Valerian tried to find a cave or some sort of cover, he just couldn’t find a suitable place.
’Damn it!’
The thought of trying to teleport back to their cave came to his mind, but even with his large mana reserves and the cheap cost of spatial movement for him, going back wasn’t possible for him.
But when he thought about his space affinity, something came to his mind. Didn’t he already have a safe place that no other being had access to?
The pocket dimension he had only used to store things was something that would be a truly safe place without any danger.
But he had never tried to put something living inside it, only food or other inanimate things that could become useful.
But he didn’t have much of a choice as the sun began to sink lower and the moon began to rise.
Desperate, Valerian tried to call upon his pocket dimension. Without delay, it answered and a small distortion of space appeared on his hand.
Now that the connection between the two dimensions was established, Valerian poured more mana into it. The distortion increased in size until it was 2 meters in size. Willing the space to rip, the distortion opened into a portal that connected the two dimensions, but Valerian could feel his mana drain at a rapid pace.
Not wanting to waste more time, he entered the rift with a bewildered and confused Arthur dragged behind him into the pocket dimension.
