Valerian hiked through the mountain where his and Goran’s fight took place, making his way to Arthur.

’God, I hate walking...’

Throughout his life, Valerian always had his teleportation, so he never had to walk long distances. But now he was caught between two decisions.

During his walk, he regained enough mana to teleport to where Arthur was fighting, but then he would have very little left and would be more of a hindrance if Arthur was still fighting.

Or he could walk there and risk Arthur losing and dying to the beastwoman, so Valerian took the middle path and decided to walk for so long that his mana refilled enough that he could teleport away again, should he be in Arthur’s way.

So now he was hiking through the mountains, waiting for his mana to refill.

’I’m so bored.’

-How about we play a game!-

Valerian looked into the air with a curious face.

’What kind of game?’

After a few seconds of silence, Valerie finally answered.

-I dunno, do you know any games?-

Valerian almost slipped on a rock and was a hair away from falling down the mountain.

’Why do you ask if you don’t know any!’

-How is that my fault? I live through your eyes, and you don’t really play any games!-

Now at least the boredom was replaced with annoyance at Valerie.

But finally, after a few more minutes of walking in silence, he regained enough mana. With a thankful expression, Valerian folded the space around him.

’Finally, free from this curse...’

When he arrived at his destination, he was faced with the destroyed lands that were burned by Arthur’s opening attack.

’Now, where is he?’

Valerian looked around the broken field trying to spot his friend. In the distance, he found a humanoid figure barely standing, and a small pile of something lying before him.

’There! And it seems his fight is over.’

Seeing Arthur standing, Valerian folded the space again and teleported next to Arthur’s side.

Arthur, who was completely exhausted after defeating Vespera, jumped up in surprise as Valerian appeared next to him.

"Ahh!"

"Pfft. It’s just me, no need to be so scared."

Valerian stifled a laugh at Arthur’s reaction.

"Dude, don’t just appear right after I finish my fight! How else am I supposed to react?"

Arthur caught himself quickly and looked down at the corpse of the beastwoman.

"So you are done, too?"

"Yeah, it was really easy."

Valerian said with a grin, but while he can lie to Arthur, he can’t lie to Valerie.

-Easy, my ass. You were so close to death you had an inner monologue.-

’Shut it!’

"Everything good?"

Arthur asked as Valerian suddenly had a frown on his face.

"Yeah, yeah. Did you already check her stuff?"

Valerian brushed him off, intending to change the topic.

"No, not yet."

Arthur bent down and turned Vespera’s corpse around. Luckily, her body was still in one piece and he didn’t have to search through piles of intestines and bones, so he just took off her spatial ring from her finger and slid it on.

Sending his mana inside, he scanned her belongings. It was mostly the same as Goran’s: food, clothes, and a bit of money. But unlike Goran, Vespera also had a large amount of backup daggers lying around, but they were not really useful to him, so he ignored them. Other than that, there was nothing important.

"She didn’t seem to have anything in here."

"Haa, so only one of them had the objective. The bearman had a letter with the objective of the mission, but they were too low-rank to have any useful information. It only said that they should infiltrate the borders of Solaria and destabilize it."

"Bummer."

Arthur kept the ring on and took a piece of cloth from his system inventory and cleaned his daggers.

"So? What do we do next?"

Valerian fell into thought. Should they go to Helias and inform him about the camp now and cancel the Voidwoods trip early, or tell him when he returned after the two months?

On one hand, it was important information that Helias needed to know as soon as possible, but on the other hand, Valerian didn’t want to leave before doing the main thing why he came here:

Find a way to maybe deal with his nightmare regarding the orphanage. It was important to him. But the information is important to the Solaria Kingdom.

It was a hard decision, but Valerian had to choose, and this time he decided to be selfish.

"We stay for now. There is something I need to do here in the Voidwoods. And after that, we will report the camp."

Arthur looked at Valerian. There was something off, but he didn’t pry. While they did grow pretty close pretty fast, if Valerian only called it something he needs to do, then he wasn’t ready to tell him.

"Okay, but let’s do that after we are back to full power."

Valerian nodded. They were both exhausted from their fight. While Valerian wasn’t physically exhausted, he still had to wait for the rest of his mana.

"Bad news: I can’t open a portal into my pocket dimension. I don’t have enough mana."

Arthur’s face fell. He was already getting excited to rest in a safe place, but now they had to somehow find a safe place in the forest.

"I can teleport us away from the fight to the mountains, and then we make a cave. That should be enough for one night."

Arthur just nodded in agreement, not seeing a better plan. Space warped around them, and they appeared back at the mountains in front of a stone wall. Arthur got to work immediately and used his earth affinity to create a tunnel into the mountain.

It wasn’t too big, but it was big enough that they could both lie comfortably. After entering, he closed the entrance, but left small holes for air to pass through.

Arthur took a mana lamp from his inventory and lit it.

After that, they spent the time in silence. Valerian focused on regaining his mana as fast as possible, and Arthur slept to let his body recover naturally.

After a few hours, Valerian was back to full, and Arthur was rested enough, and they left the cave.

"Where is this place you wanted to go?"

Valerian took a stone slab from his pocket space and channeled his mana into it. Soon, the runes inscribed on it lit up, and a projection of an arrow pointed into a direction in the distance.

"It’s in this direction. But I’m not sure how far."

Arthur looked at the stone slab from the side, and only one thought came to his mind.

’It’s like Google Maps! Holy shit, I didn’t know runes could be this useful!’

Ignoring Arthur’s stares, Valerian put the slab back inside his pocket space and took off, closely followed by Arthur.
