The world held its breath.

All the sound disappeared as the plasma left the tip of the katana and headed straight for the approaching beast wave.

It moved in the form of a mass caught between burning fire and crackling lightning; it was fast, to the weaker ones it was instant.

One moment everything was normal and the next nothingness took over.

When the plasma connected with the monsters there was no loud explosion, it simply hit and then turned into a sphere of annihilation.

And everything caught inside, be it a monster, the forest, or the ground, everything burned and then disappeared, no ash, no smoke. Absolute simple erasure.

The direct explosion spanned for 300 meters and nothing caught inside survived. But the ones outside the explosion weren’t lucky enough to survive as the shockwave rolled through an area of 2 km around the initial impact.

Unable to withstand the insane air pressure generated by the plasma explosion, monsters were torn apart, leaving only chunks of what they once were left.

Arthur, who was watching the whole fight from high above, moved his arms to protect his eyes and was thrown backwards.

Valerian stood on the ground and watched the destruction caused by the two elements. It was insane, with just this one attack he killed more monsters than he had with all the other ones combined. Over 1000 monsters perished under the firepower of the combined [Cosmic Fire] and [Void Lightning].

But this much destruction had its price as Valerian lost 20% of his mana; while he still had more than enough to finish off the rest, it was still a large chunk. Most mages wouldn’t be able to fuel such destruction with 100% of their mana.

Valerian lowered his sword and walked over to where the shockwave was still causing havoc among the beasts. His walk was casual, relaxed, the wind blowing his hair around, but it wasn’t able to move him even one bit.

’That’s insane.’

-Yeah, I know I’m amazing.-

Valerian could practically see Valerie holding her nose high in the air with a proud face. And she was right. She was the one that subdued both affinities and made them work together.

It just showed again how powerful and versatile [Law Breaker] is.

’What should I do with the rest?’

While the explosion managed to reduce their numbers by a staggering amount, there were still almost 1000 beasts left. Most of them are weaker ones that ran at the back and weren’t hit that much by the spells.

But there were also some S+ Ranks left that managed to react in time to the spell and build enough distance to survive.

The shockwave began to die down, and a massive dust cloud obscured his vision. With a swipe of his hand, the cloud cleared and the extent of the destruction was revealed.

A massive crater that bore deep into the earth scarred the land; it was over 300 meters deep and wide. Even the trees around were blasted away by the shockwave that followed, leaving a large patch of land barren.

Valerian swirled the katana in his hand and with a lazy expression looked at the monsters far at the back.

They were dazed and tried to stand, but most failed and just fell back to the ground.

Suddenly, from the sky, a large figure raced towards Valerian. As he looked up, the shape was almost on him, and with a simple teleport, he dodged to the side and appeared 20 meters away.

In the spot he was previously standing was now a large gorilla-type monster. It had a tall body reaching 7 meters, with a lean body packed with compressed muscles. It had two legs and four arms, two sprouting from each side. Its body was a radiant white and yellow.

The hair on its forearms and back dissolved into streams of light. It had a tail that was made from pure light mana, glowing softly.

It had a mean and ugly face with two powerful tusks sprouting from its lower jaw. Its eyes were burning like lanterns in the night with pure anger and hate, all of which was directed at Valerian.

’Light affinity.’

Valerian looked at the ape with excited eyes. Light was a rather rare element, so finding a beast like that was something special.

’I want that.’

The greed for the element burning in Valerian’s chest. If lightning turned into [Void Lightning] and ice into [Absolute Zero], what would a light affinity become?

But unfortunately, they weren’t alone as the roars of the other beasts rang through the now barren land. And a smaller wave of monsters approached Valerian and the ape.

The light ape slammed its strong hands on the ground, causing a deep rumble to shake the earth.

With a ferocious battle cry, its body became bright and it charged towards Valerian. Its speed was off the charts, something an S+ shouldn’t be able to achieve.

But Valerian, with his spatial perception, noticed it coming at him, and thanks to his mana body paired with insane mana control, was able to move his head out of the way before one of its strong fists crushed it.

Valerian rolled in the air and moved his katana in a fast arc, attempting to injure the light ape. He didn’t want to kill it, of course; it still had something Valerian wanted.

But unfortunately, even hitting the ape wasn’t possible as its body turned bright again and it moved out of the way of the katana.

While Valerian was still in the air, it tried to land another punch, but this time Valerian teleported away instead of trying to dodge.

As the ape hit air, Valerian appeared above the smaller monster wave. He quickly scanned them to maybe find a monster with an interesting affinity, but unfortunately, there was none.

With a sigh, he pointed his empty left hand at the wave below. A small flame appeared; Valerian didn’t have the patience for another plasma attack, so he just let a huge wave of [Cosmic Fire] wash over the monsters, burning them alive.

He flew over the wave, letting fire rain down on them from his hand like a flamethrower.

Some of the monsters tried to attack him in the air by jumping up or flying to him, but whenever that happened, he cut them down with his katana instantly.

The light ape was left alone on the front, but it was S+, so it had a semblance of intelligence, and while it wasn’t capable of complex thoughts, it was smart enough to be furious at being ignored.

With rage burning in its white glowing eyes, it raised one of its four hands and pointed it at the flying Valerian.

Behind it, dozens of glowing pools appeared in the air, and after enough were created, it released the attack, and from each flying pool, a beam of light shot out, all aimed at Valerian.

They moved at the speed of light, crossing the distance instantly.

Valerian was about to get hit and burned to a crisp by the dozens of beams of compressed light.

But just as they were about to hit him, his form disappeared and the beams shot high into the sky.

Before the shock of the miss could set in on the ape, it noticed that the world was tilting and it couldn’t feel its limbs anymore.

When it hit the ground, it saw a pair of boots standing in front of it, and Valerian looked down on the ape with cold, glowing eyes.

It didn’t understand what happened; it should have been a sure hit, as nothing was ever able to dodge one of its light beams. They were simply too fast for anyone to react!

When the pain at the places where its legs and arms were was about to set in, it felt a cold sensation.

Valerian grabbed its large and ugly head and slammed it on the ground, knocking it unconscious.

Valerian let out a heavy breath.

’That was close.’

-It was so fast; if you didn’t pay attention, you could have been seriously injured.-

Valerian simply nodded. Valerie was right; while he was letting fire rain down on the monsters, he never took his attention off the ape.

It already portrayed that it was capable of insane speed, so he was cautious.

And it definitely paid off, because as soon as Valerian felt the light mana condense into beams, he activated his space affinity to take him away. If he had been just a fraction of a second too late, he would have been hit by the dozens of beams.

While it wouldn’t kill him, it would injure him enough so that he would have problems against the S+ rank and the rest of the monsters.

Valerian looked down on the unconscious light ape. Instead of killing it, he cut off all its limbs, knocked it out, and froze its stumps shut so that it wouldn’t bleed out. The demonstration of the spell just made him want the light affinity even more.

He turned back towards the burning monster wave; its numbers were reduced drastically, now standing below 500.

Valerian sighed and walked back to the wave.

’Homestretch.’
