The final day on the broken planet arrived quietly.
By the time Lian woke, the ship’s systems were fully online. The robots had finished the last of the repairs overnight. Hull integrity was stable. Engines were charged. Life support, navigation, and weapons arrays all reported green. The vessel that had once been a buried relic was now a living warship, humming with restrained power.
Lirien stood at the central console on the bridge, her small hands moving across holographic panels with practiced ease. Elara sat in one of the secondary seats, checking her gear one last time. Her thunder blade rested across her lap, and the Stormveil Adaptive Suit she had claimed earlier fitted her perfectly.
Lian entered the bridge and took the commander’s chair. The seat adjusted automatically to his frame.
“Status,” he said.
“Ship is at one hundred percent operational capacity, Master,” Lirien replied. “All systems optimal. We can depart at any moment.”
Lian looked out through the large observation window. Outside, the shattered remains of Vorthex Prime drifted slowly apart. The two halves of the planet still glowed with residual fires and exposed magma. The ruins of the city they had scavenged were barely visible in the distance. This place had given them resources, trauma, and power. It was time to leave it behind.
“Prepare for departure,” Lian ordered.
Lirien’s fingers danced across the controls. The ship’s thrusters ignited with a deep, resonant hum. Gravity systems adjusted smoothly as the vessel lifted from the cavern floor. Dust and small rocks fell away from the hull as they rose through the broken tunnels and into the open sky.
Within minutes, they cleared the atmosphere.
The stars of the lower universe stretched out before them — cold, endless, and full of both danger and opportunity. Lian stared at the void for a long moment. For the first time since the death of his uncle, he felt something close to freedom.
Elara stepped closer to the window, her expression quiet.
“We’re really leaving,” she said.
“Yes,” Lian answered. “And we won’t be coming back.”
Lirien remained at the console, monitoring every system. “Course is set for the nearest major trading hub in this sector, Master. Estimated travel time is fourteen days at current speed. We can increase velocity once we clear the debris field.”
Lian nodded. Fourteen days would give them time to train, study, and plan. The Kharvax Rift was still years away, but every day counted. He needed to strengthen his foundation, master the black liquid, and learn how to properly use the Mindweaver Crown. With Lirien’s knowledge and the ship’s resources, the path forward felt clearer than it ever had.
He glanced at the little girl standing beside the console. She looked so small and fragile, yet she was ancient and powerful enough to make even Nebula Dominion experts seem ordinary. The Astral Heartforge Alloy she carried in her storage ring was another gift from this planet — a material that could one day become a weapon worthy of the higher universe.
Lian leaned back in the commander’s chair.
The ship accelerated smoothly, leaving the broken world behind.
The lower universe stretched out before them.
And for the first time in a long while, Lian felt ready to face it.
