Chapter 35: Chapter - 35: Safe Return

"...Someone attacked us? Let’s fight them." Elena asked me like it’s the most normal thing to do in such a situation.

"Not right now, it’s not safe here" I said while continuing to observe the distant rooftop.

The hooded attacker clearly hadn’t expected his surprise attack to be blocked so effortlessly.

For only a brief moment, our eyes seemed to meet across the city and then....

He immediately turned around and fled without the slightest hesitation.

Outside the carriage, Dalas slowly lowered the Deepsea Shield.

His expression remained perfectly calm, but the seriousness in his eyes had deepened considerably.

"I cannot pursue him." He spoke after carefully observing the surrounding buildings.

"If this was a planned ambush, there may be additional attackers waiting for us elsewhere."

I completely agreed. If Dalas left right now and another hidden attacker appeared, we will lack our strongest defense.

The captain of the city guards finally arrived together with several armored soldiers after hearing the explosion.

After briefly explaining that an unidentified mage had launched a long-range attack before escaping, Dalas left the remaining investigation to the city authorities.

But the atmosphere in the carriage became lighter because of it so I can’t say it’s a bad thing.

After that we didn’t dwell much in the capital streets as we went directly to drop Lily to her house and then headed back to the academy.

Considering everything that had happened today; the battle arena incident, the appearance of an evil magic user, and now a planned ambush, even bustling city streets no longer felt truly safe.

After getting back to the academy we finally bid bye to Dalas and Maya. Dalas will first escort Maya to the Mizo family’s villa and then will return to our villa.

Right now three of us are on our way to the student dormitories.

"Elena, I have something to talk about with you."

I stopped Elena as she was just about to head to the female dormitory.

"Ian, do you think that Elena.....that she likes me?"

I hesitated but ended up asking for his opinion. But what I received in return was not an answer but a weird look.
