Avoiding Death in an Otome Game
Chapter 41 - - 41 The Academy’s Medical ExaminationChapter 41: Chapter - 41 The Academy’s Medical Examination
Kai’s POV:-
It has been a little over a month since the academy started. A lot had happened during that short period.
I encountered an actual evil magic user during the combat arena incident.
Ian somehow gathered enough courage to confess to Lily. And according to Ian, Lily still hadn’t given him an answer.
Honestly, I didn’t know whether I should admire him or pity him.
Honestly love is a foreign feeling to me because to only time I feel my heartbeat rising is either when I am nervous or in danger or both together.
While I was lost in thought, the classroom door opened.
Our homeroom teacher entered.
The usual chatter quickly died down.
"Good morning."
"Good morning, teacher."
The teacher placed several documents on the desk.
"Today there will be no morning classes."
That immediately caught everyone’s attention. Some students even looked excited, but unfortunately, experience had taught me that whenever teachers announced good news, bad news usually followed.
"All first-year students will undergo their annual medical examination."
There it is.
The catch.
Several students visibly relaxed. Apparently most of them were expecting something worse.
"The examination includes physical condition assessment, mana circulation evaluation, elemental affinity verification, and mana capacity measurement."
The teacher continued.
"Proceed to the medical building according to your assigned groups."
Sheets of paper were distributed throughout the classroom.
After checking mine, I found myself in the same group as Ian, Lily, Elena, and several other classmates.
At least I am not in the Heroine’s or that X factor’s group
While exiting the classroom, Elena grouped up with me. She seems nervous about the medical examination as she keep setting her hair properly.
I don’t know what hair has to do even do with this.
"Do I look odd today?"
She asked.
"No. Why do you ask?"
I replied. I was curious about why she was behaving like this.
"Actually.... I noticed you keep glancing at me with thoughtful expressions"
She replaced with a tense tone as her eyes suggest that she wants to know the reason.
*So it was because of me. She might have misunderstood when I was spacing out while thinking about all that relationship things*
I need to really fix this habit of mine. But I partially blame Ian this time.
"Sorry about that, I was just thinking about something"
Replied trying to assure her that there’s nothing wrong with her hair or looks.
"So what were you thinking about?" She asked curiously.
"Well....I think about future" I replied with hesitation. I don’t know what words to pick for it.
"Oh, that’s nice. I also sometimes thinks about future" But somehow Elena looks happy after that as she replied with a pleased smile.
[Author:- maybe she meant ’their future’]
...
Soon they reached the place.
The academy’s medical building stood near the western side of the campus. Compared to the lecture halls, it looked much quieter.
The white stone building had three floors and large glass windows. Several medicinal plants were being cultivated in nearby gardens. The air carried a faint herbal scent.
As we entered, students from other first year classes could already be seen waiting in various areas.
Some looked nervous, while others looked bored. And a few looked like they were preparing for battle. One boy was even muttering prayers.
"It’s just a medical examination."
Ian looked at him strangely. Well I don’t want to compare anyone with your guts. Someone who can confess in the first year.
A staff member directed our group toward a waiting area where rows of chairs lined the walls. Students were called one by one. The process seemed fairly efficient.
While waiting, Ian occasionally glanced toward Lily. And she also returned the glances which seems make the other students around them awkward.
Another pair of love birds to awkward the class atmosphere like one(Ray and Luna) was not enough. I sighed inwardly.
Eventually my name was called and I along with some other students entered one of the examination rooms. The room itself was surprisingly ordinary.
A desk, several shelves, medical equipment and a large crystal sphere positioned in the center.
Behind the desk sat a woman wearing a white medical coat. With Long blonde hair and a gentle smile. She appeared to be in her late twenties and she is calming beauty.
She is Melanie Bennett, academy’s medical officer.
"Good morning."
"Good morning."
"Please take a seat."
She gestured me who was the first in the line of the students that entered. I sat down waiting for the further instructions. She gestured toward the crystal.
"Place your hand here and circulate your mana naturally."
The examination wasn’t complicated. She just checked my mana capacity, physical conditions, elemental affinities and practice routine. And everything was over in 10 minutes.
"You are really a strong one. This reminds me of Jin from last year" She said like a compliment.
But unknown to her my goal is to not just to be comparable to him but to completely surpass him. I can’t risk repeating the scenario of the game.
When the examination finally ended, I stepped back into the waiting area.
Ian was already there.
"How was it?"
"Nothing complicated. Just your usual physical and magic tests"
Just like that everyone went through the medical checkup and by the time Elena’s turn was completed, it was already over two hours since we arrived.
"Finally. Waiting was so tiring" Ian muttered as he stretches his arms.
"So how it went?" I asked Elena as we walk away from the medical building.
"It was pretty good. She even said that my potential is limitless. And she also gave me suggestions on the magic books I should try" Elena replied with a satisfied tone.
.....
Unknown to Kai and others a figure was overseeing their every movement from distance.
"Finally the first step is completed. Even though the situation seems completely different but as long as this one thing works then the calamity will be delayed" She muttered under her breath.
Sigh..
*Sorry Kai and Elena but for the safety of this world, this sacrifice needs to be made*
Princess Kajol thought to herself as she saw them leaving the academy grounds.
