The deeper woods surrounding Aethelgard Academy were a chaotic tapestry of ancient oaks and thick, magical fog—the perfect place for a Goddess to remind her followers that the world is not a classroom.
"The Academy walls provide a false sense of finality," Astraea said, leading the way through the dense undergrowth. She moved without a sound, her eyes scanning the canopy. "In the Divine Realm, we called these 'Wild Zones'—places where the rules of men and gods are thin. If you can survive here, a dueling ring will feel like a nursery."
Lyra moved behind her, the recurve bow gripped tight. She had swapped her bulky healer’s robes for a practical, tight-fitting tunic they’d "requisitioned" from the laundry. Selene followed, her new breastplate hidden under a heavy travel cloak, the weight of the steel giving her a newfound groundedness.
For the first hour, the training was clinical. Astraea flushed out a pack of Glint-Wolves—fast, magical predators that relied on blinking through shadows.
"Lyra! High-left branch! Don't aim for where it is, aim for where the shadow settles!" Astraea commanded.
Thwack.
An arrow pierced the wolf’s shoulder just as it materialized.
"Selene! Close the gap! Don't shield—crush!"
Selene let out a guttural roar, her gauntleted fist glowing with a harsh, golden light. Instead of a soft healing pulse, she slammed her hand into the ground, sending a shockwave of "Holy Smite" that shattered the wolf’s balance, allowing Astraea to finish it with a blurred stroke of her daggers.
"Again," Astraea said, wiping a bead of sweat from her brow. She felt the mark on her thigh humming. The more they fought, the more the girls' spirits aligned with hers.
---
The air suddenly went cold. The birds, which had been chirping in the wake of the wolf slaughter, went dead silent.
From the shadows of a massive, rotted cedar, something emerged that wasn't on the Academy’s local bestiary map. It was a Void-Stalker Chimera—a creature of shifting obsidian fur and three eyes that glowed with a sickly, necrotic violet. It was a beast of the deep rifts, far too powerful for the outskirts of a school.
"Astraea..." Lyra whispered, her voice trembling as she notched an arrow. "The arrows... they’re passing through it. It's phase-shifting!"
The Chimera roared, a sound that felt like glass grinding against bone. It lunged with impossible speed. Astraea moved to intercept, but her mortal muscles screamed in protest. She was exhausted from hours of coaching, and her current frame lacked the raw mana to pierce the creature’s Void-shroud.
The beast swiped, a claw made of solidified shadow catching Astraea across the ribs. She hissed, spiraling back, her blood staining the dirt.
"Astraea!" Selene screamed, rushing forward, her light flickering as the beast’s necrotic aura began to drain her.
The Chimera loomed over them, its three eyes narrowing as it prepared a breath of pure Void-fire. Astraea struggled to stand, her hand clutching her side. She looked at Lyra and Selene—they were terrified, their devotion wavering as they saw their "Goddess" bleed.
I need it, Astraea thought, her vision blurring. The mark... it’s not full enough. I can't manifest the Sovereign Edge without a direct infusion.
She looked at Lyra, who was closest to her, trembling but refusing to run.
"Lyra," Astraea gasped, her voice thick with command and a sudden, sharp hunger. "The mark. I need you to touch the mark. Now!"
As the beast opened its maw to incinerate them, Astraea pulled Lyra into the shadow of a rock, her hand moving to the glowing tattoo on her thigh. The air between them suddenly turned electric, the primal fear of death clashing with the sudden, overwhelming heat of Vesta’s gift.
The crevice was tight, the damp stone walls pressing in on them as the Chimera’s claws screeched against the entrance, trying to shred the mountain itself to get to them. Outside, the world was shadows and death; inside, the air was thick with the scent of ozone, sweat, and the sudden, overwhelming heat radiating from Astraea’s skin.
Astraea slumped against the rock, her breath hitching. The necrotic wound on her ribs pulsed black, but the tattoo on her thigh was burning a blinding, celestial gold.
"Lyra... Selene..." Astraea gasped, reaching out. She grabbed Lyra’s hand, pressing it firmly against the glowing mark on her inner thigh. "The beast... it’s a creature of the Void. My mortal steel won't hold. If you believe in me... if you truly want to be more than what they made you... I can be your strength. But I cannot do it alone. I need your worship."
As the girls watched, eyes wide with a mix of terror and burgeoning heat, the golden light solidified. The Divine Phallus manifested—a shimmering, translucent shaft of pure light and warmth that pulsed in sync with Astraea's desperate heart.
The "Picky" Goddess, who had spent eons rejecting the kings of heaven, now leaned her head back against the cold stone, her eyes half-lidded. She guided both girls down. "Show me," she whispered. "Give me your faith, and I will give you the world."
The ritual was frantic and primal. Lyra’s hands, usually so steady on a bowstring, trembled as she gripped the glowing length, while Selene’s tongue explored the divine heat, her "Holy" mana reacting violently and beautifully to the touch of a true celestial. It was a two-way street; as they worshipped, a surge of raw, unadulterated power flowed back into them. Lyra felt her vision sharpen until she could see the atoms in the air; Selene felt her muscles harden like enchanted diamonds.
Astraea’s back arched, her fingers digging into the girls' hair. The pleasure wasn't just physical—it was the sensation of her empty "batteries" being slammed with the high-voltage current of absolute devotion.
As she reached the pinnacle, Astraea’s eyes didn't just open—they erupted. Two beams of pure, white-gold light shot from her pupils, illuminating the dark crevice with the glory of the Divine Realm. She climaxed with a silent, shattering roar of power, her blessing washing over Lyra and Selene like a physical wave of heat, branding their souls as her own.
"You gave me worship," Astraea breathed, her voice now resonating with the bass note of a tectonic plate shifting. "You put your faith in me. And I never betray my own."
She stood. The wound on her ribs didn't just heal; the necrotic energy was consumed by her light.
Astraea stepped out of the crevice. She didn't run. She didn't hide.
The Chimera lunged, its maw open to unleash a Void-breath that could melt stone. Astraea didn't even raise her daggers. She simply reached out and caught the beast’s upper and lower jaws with her bare hands.
"You are a scavenger from the dark," Astraea hissed, her voice a chorus of a thousand warriors. "I am the Sovereign of the Dawn."
With a sickening crack of breaking bone and a flare of golden light, she tore the beast’s head in half. She didn't stop there. Moving in a blur that the mortal eye couldn't track, she manifested a dozen light knives—ethereal echoes of her divine armory—and pinned the creature’s shadow to the ground before detonating it in a pillar of celestial fire.
When the light faded, only ash remained.
Astraea stood in the center of the clearing, the glow slowly receding from her eyes, the divine phallus vanishing back into the mark on her thigh. She felt the "time limit" ticking down, the exhaustion of the mortal frame returning.
She turned to Lyra and Selene, who were huddled at the mouth of the crevice, their faces flushed, their bodies still humming with the "buffs" of her blessing.
"That," Astraea said, her voice returning to its mortal rasp, though her posture remained regal, "is what a Goddess can do. Now, let’s go back. We have an Academy to dismantle."
