Beast Taming: My System is Bugged
Chapter 505 - 487: Lingyun Mountain Rearing BaseRuan Taibai knew that an organization of a certain size, like the Friends of Nature, usually had its own staff to assist with basic Enlightenment work.
He didn’t really need to ask Gu Ming.
But asking Gu Ming at this moment was more a matter of respect and courtesy.
After all, Gu Ming was here on his sister’s orders, so they probably couldn’t skip the formalities.
Unexpectedly, however, Gu Ming pondered for a moment before nodding at Ruan Taibai.
"Alright, I’ll participate."
Ruan Taibai was taken aback for a second. Seeing Mr. Tree across from him also nod lightly, he could only follow suit.
Mr. Tree said, "Boss Ruan, I know the demand is quite large this time, so our organization will also dispatch people to carry out the Enlightenment work together."
"We have a ’Natural Origin Reading Club’ that specializes in the Enlightenment of young plant-type pets and Grass Element animals."
"We can divide the labor. For example, we’ll be in charge of the Grass Element Enlightenment.
"Your store can handle the Enlightenment for earthworms, ground-dwelling insects, and young avian pets."
Soon, the two parties agreed on a time for the Enlightenment that evening, without any tedious pleasantries.
Afterward, Mr. Tree mounted his mystical Ancient Divine Deer and left the store.
Gu Ming stood his ground, his gaze following the distant figure of the Ancient Divine Deer, staring thoughtfully for a moment.
’No matter their objective, getting more deeply involved in this transaction would allow him to observe the people and Pet Beasts of the Friends of Nature up close, which was exactly what he wanted.’
Seeing this, Ruan Taibai leaned in and asked in a low voice:
"What is it, God Gu?
"Is that Ancient Divine Deer’s bloodline particularly rare? Has it piqued your research interest?"
He assumed Gu Ming’s scholarly instincts were kicking in, sparking his curiosity about a rare Pet Beast.
"It is indeed rare."
Gu Ming retracted his gaze and gave a vague reply.
’He knew that the Ancient Divine Deer was an extremely rare species on the market.’
’Any Pet Beast associated with the paths of "prayer" or "faith" typically required the Beastmaster to personally join an organization with a specific belief system to be properly raised.’
’Otherwise, no matter how high its potential, it could never reach its mature form.’
’The intricacies involved went far beyond simple academic research.’
’And what he was concerned with now had long since transcended the academic realm.’
...
Ruan Taibai pulled down the store’s security gate, turned to Gu Ming, and smiled.
"God Gu, let’s go. Take my car."
"Ordinary people can’t get into that place."
As he spoke, he led Gu Ming to an inconspicuous corner in the alley behind the small shop.
A panel van was parked there, its surface covered in the patterns of an Array.
Gu Ming recognized the classic design style of the Ruan Family’s Arrays on the vehicle’s exterior. It likely contained a massive storage space inside, complete with life support and air purification functions.
’Upon closer inspection, he could also discern a different style, not the handiwork of the Array Beastmasters from the Capital Cultivation Method Company.’
’It seemed the Ruan Family didn’t just dabble in Cultivation Techniques for humans and Pet Beasts.’
’They also researched Arrays for mechanical objects.’
As the vehicle started, it didn’t head toward the bustling city center but instead drove in the direction of Lingyun Mountain on the outskirts.
The farther they got from the city, the fresher the air became.
The buildings on both sides of the road were gradually replaced by lush forests.
About half an hour later, the van turned onto a secluded mountain road.
It finally slowed to a stop before an entrance with a guard post.
"Halt!"
"Please present your access credentials."
The guard at the post wore a crisply tailored uniform; his aura was steady, and his eyes were sharp.
Ruan Taibai handed over a Jade Token that emitted a soft, warm glow.
The guard placed the Jade Token on a detection Array. After a flash of light confirmed its authenticity, he turned to look at Gu Ming in the passenger seat.
"And this is?" The guard’s sharp gaze swept over Gu Ming. He recognized Ruan Taibai, but not Gu Ming, and there was no information about Gu Ming on the Jade Token.
"My new assistant, Gu Ming.
"For this large-scale transaction, I need his assistance with the ’Initial Awakening of Spiritual Wisdom’ for the young beasts. I already registered this with the base management before coming."
Ruan Taibai replied calmly.
The guard directed a Mechanical Pet Beast to scan Gu Ming with a Mirror-shaped Magical Artifact, seemingly checking his Energy Fluctuation.
Gu Ming faced it calmly, feeling a gentle yet irresistible probing force sweep over his body, as if it were recording his face and spiritual aura.
A moment later, the guard nodded and waved them through.
"Alright, you can go in.
"You both know the rules. Do not enter unauthorized areas."
As he passed through the translucent energy barrier, Gu Ming felt a slight chill, as if he had just passed through a film of water.
The scene inside the barrier opened up dramatically, as if it were a completely different world from the outside.
Before him was a vast expanse, meticulously planned yet almost completely natural.
In the distance, the silhouette of Lingyun Mountain was clearly visible.
Closer by, the area was cleverly divided into different ecological zones based on the terrain and topography.
A river brimming with Spiritual Qi snaked through the entire base like a jade belt, supplying water to the various zones.
The air was thick with dense Spiritual Qi, mixed with the scents of earth, plants, and the unique but not unpleasant smells of various Pet Beasts.
The flow of energy here was orderly, giving off a sense of tranquility and power.
"This is the region’s largest comprehensive Pet Beast breeding facility, the ’Lingyun Mountain Base’."
Ruan Taibai explained as he drove slowly along the internal roads.
"See those membranes of light?
"Those are nurseries set up according to the needs of different Pet Beasts. They can simulate the most suitable living environments."
Through the car window, Gu Ming saw an area simulating a wetland, where some young Water Element beasts were playing inside a light membrane.
In another area simulating a rocky landscape, some young Pangolin-type Pet Beasts were dozing.
Staff members in different colored uniforms bustled about quietly, either recording data or feeding the animals.
He also glimpsed a few High-star Beastmasters, dressed differently from the base staff, talking amongst themselves.
’Gu Ming had little interest in them, but this place certainly looked huge.’
’He had always heard that there was a large-scale Pet Beast breeding base locally, said to be the source for the entire city’s Pet Beasts.’
’Every city had one or two such bases.’
’A megalopolis like the Capital might have a dozen or more super-bases supplying it from behind the scenes.’
Lanqi City wasn’t on that scale, but upon entering, Gu Ming could still feel that this officially managed base was massive, by no means some small-time breeding operation.
"The Lingyun Mountain Base mainly serves the government and large, qualified enterprises like major Pet Beast Store chains,"
Ruan Taibai explained.
"It’s nearly impossible for an individual Beastmaster to acquire a Pet Beast directly from here."
"Small community shops like ours don’t usually come here either. A Beastmaster makes a special trip each month to restock our young Pet Beasts."
’No wonder I never came here during my last part-time job,’ Gu Ming thought.
He asked in return, "So we only need to come here this time because it involves a large-scale contract event?"
"That’s right."
