The laboratory was located inside a silvery-white building shaped like a stack of multiple tuning forks.
The hallways were quiet, with only the occasional researcher or auxiliary mechanical unit passing by in silence.
After finding the right door plate, Gu Ming raised his hand to knock, but the heavy metal door slid open silently to one side.
Inside was a laboratory filled with all sorts of complex display screens, sonar imagers, and signal processing terminals.
A middle-aged man in a white lab coat, his hair impeccably combed and his expression stern, was standing before the main console.
He turned, his gaze sweeping over Gu Ming and Lu You before finally resting on the letter of introduction in Gu Ming's hand. He gave a slight nod.
"Student Gu Ming? Tang Tianyi has already spoken with me."
His tone was slightly stiff, as if he were just going through the motions of an official handover, with no intention of making small talk.
"The data is ready. The temporary access key is on this storage chip, integrated with the data copy."
"After a single transfer of the raw data, the chip itself will self-destruct. Be careful not to lose it."
He pointed to a silver metal box, glowing faintly, that sat alone on a nearby console.
The whole process was lightning-fast. The handover was complete before Gu Ming could even ask a question, with no superfluous conversation whatsoever.
This Seven-star Peak professor's time was clearly precious, and he had a very clear view of this handover.
This was a data share based on a favor owed to Tang Tianyi, but Tang Tianyi himself hadn't come in person, which proved he didn't consider the matter important.
There was nothing to discuss with Tang Tianyi's student.
Gu Ming stepped forward and picked up the metal box. It was cool to the touch and very light.
"Thank you, Professor. We'll handle it with care."
The professor nodded, but his gaze had already returned to the main screen in front of him, which was constantly scrolling with complex spectrograms. He muttered under his breath,
"Analyzing that sound wave requires the joint effort of a Prophetic Element and a Divination Ability Pet Beast. The disciplinary cross-over is too large."
"Tang Tianyi doesn't have a Pet Beast like that, so why would he suddenly be researching this... Could it be a company assignment?"
His tone was flat, making it impossible to tell if it was an evaluation or a simple statement.
But the faint undertone of disapproval was still discernible.
Gu Ming didn't respond.
This was research between two titans, and Tang Tianyi was only a Six-star, yet he could obtain data from a Seven-star titan. The matters involved were not something Gu Ming was privy to, and he couldn't answer anything.
He simply nodded politely again. "We'll be leaving then, Professor?"
The professor gave a noncommittal "Mm," his attention already completely back on his research interface, as if the handover was done and the guests could see themselves out.
「You have arrived at Celestial Secret University.」
As a fifty-one-year-old Old Deng, you step into the temple of mechanics and magnetism for the first time and are grandly received by an Eight-star titan.
Professor Weng is a master of the Magnetic Element. The moment he sees Cyan Treasure, he recognizes that the distorted magnetic field on the Pet Beast is related to Time Power.
In order to make you stay, he decides to appeal to your interests, explaining this sound wave data and the various prophecies made by the Prophetic Element Pet Beasts of top-tier academic titans.
Hearing this, your interest is piqued.
Do you choose to complete your task and leave, or let others continue to study Cyan Treasure?
Gu Ming had been about to leave. He had even put the metal box into his Beast Taming Space and given Lu You a signal.
Lu You, understanding tacitly, lifted her foot and started walking toward the lab door.
Suddenly, Gu Ming reached out and grabbed her hand.
She, for a rare moment, flinched, slightly tense.
Right there in the open, Gu Ming had suddenly taken her hand.
'What is he doing?'
She was very nervous. Being a social phobe, she had no idea where to look, and her mind suddenly went blank.
"Wait, Professor. I just remembered, Teacher Tang gave us another task to do."
Gu Ming held Lu You's hand and turned to speak to the Seven-star Realm Professor Weng.
Professor Weng didn't turn around, as if he hadn't heard Gu Ming's voice.
"Just last week, the 'Friends of Nature' incident was exposed. The one who discovered it was a newly born, One-star Realm Prophetic Element Pet Beast that hadn't even completed its Evolution."
Professor Weng still didn't react, but Gu Ming could see that his hands, which had been swiping through the air to command the abilities of his Magnetic Element Pet Beast, had slowed down. He had clearly heard him.
"Right now, that Pet Beast's master is here... Lu You, let the Star Spirit out for a moment."
Gu Ming's tone shifted, becoming much softer.
Because this was all so sudden, Gu Ming hadn't warned Lu You, so he lowered his voice accordingly.
However, before they had set out, Gu Ming had mentioned to Lu You that they might be able to access the data on-site and test the abilities of a Prophetic Element Pet Beast.
So this sudden move wasn't completely unplanned; it was just that the timing of him bringing it up was terrible.
Hearing this, Professor Weng finally stopped his swiping motions, turned around to look at them, and nodded.
"That business with Friends of Nature... I've heard a little about it, but I don't know the full story."
"Professor Weng, the fact that it could prophesy the Ancient Divine Deer Ancestor at the One-star Realm, relying entirely on instinct, proves its Talent is extraordinary."
"And the Prophetic Element school is one that relies most on Talent and luck. Things like Skill Level are secondary," Gu Ming insisted.
As Gu Ming's conversation with Professor Weng continued, the system's bullet-comment screen did indeed begin to scroll, updating with some prophecies made by Prophetic Element Pet Beasts.
Seeing this, Gu Ming was inwardly pleased.
On the surface, however, he had to maintain his composure and not let his actions seem too nonsensical.
By now, Lu You had completely understood Gu Ming's intentions and released the shy Star Spirit.
Professor Weng nodded, his gaze also falling upon the newly born Star Spirit.
"Alright then. I will now play a segment of the Dragon's Blessing sound wave that our lab monitored."
"This sound wave was recorded on New Year's Eve, when the Divine Dragon roamed Great Zhou, bestowing its blessing upon Dragon Race Beastmasters and Dragon Element Pet Beasts."
"It contains many sacred draconic sounds. The noise that doesn't belong to the Dragon Race is hidden within. How much you can interpret from it will depend entirely on Talent and... luck."
When he mentioned luck at the end, Professor Weng paused for a rare moment.
For a Beastmaster like him, who leaned toward the mechanical and Magnetic Element factions, the element of luck was usually not taken into consideration.
He saw everything in clear-cut terms: something was either doable or not doable.
But in this world, Pet Beast abilities were diverse. The existence of Mysterious Element Pet Beasts proved that there were too many unknowns that could not be explained by current knowledge.
In his heart, he didn't agree with Gu Ming's mention of luck. However, Gu Ming was just a first-year university student. Even with the academic halo of a top-journal publication, in his eyes, Gu Ming was still a freshman whose foundational knowledge was not yet solid. He didn't want to interrupt him over this matter.
Gu Ming nodded. He was a bit surprised, having learned a new piece of information.
'So the Dragon's Blessing is only bestowed upon Dragon Race Beastmasters... Cyan Treasure and the others benefited because of the Dragon Pattern Tripod Foundation Establishment Platform.'
'And the Star Spirit, having cultivated with Lu You these past few days, also had a Dragon Pattern Tripod Foundation Establishment Platform built inside it, just in time to catch the Dragon's Blessing express.'
