A moment later, Shore finally emerged, looking reluctant to leave.

The two of them walked cautiously toward the lighthouse, one in front of the other.

The sea wind carried an icy rain, and lightning flashed and thunder roared without pause. Waves crashed against the shore, kicking up clouds of spray, while the lighthouse’s searchlight continued to sweep across the sea, searching for its target.

The houses along the coast were mostly deathly silent, but occasionally, they could hear eerie whispers that sent a chill down their spines.

However, the two of them had no time to check the houses one by one. They quickly followed the coast of the Seaside Town and arrived at the foot of the towering lighthouse.

As they traversed a path over the reef, waves crashed over them again and again, soaking them with seawater.

BAM!

Li Miao kicked open the wooden door at the base of the lighthouse and walked in, holding his Law Greatsword.

The illuminating Candlefire on his body allowed him to immediately spot a shriveled corpse on the ground.

It was sitting on a stool, its body riddled with small knives. Its eyes stared upward with a pained expression frozen on its face, and it emitted the foul stench of decay. It had clearly been tortured to death.

Judging by his clothes, he seemed to be the Lighthouse Keeper.

The two exchanged a look, then walked around the corpse and began to climb the stairs.

They found nothing unusual on the second, third, and fourth floors—only some ordinary daily necessities.

There was, however, a new Milestone Spirit Candle on the third floor.

After lighting it, the two continued up the stairs to the fifth floor.

Li Miao, who was in the lead, suddenly stopped and looked down at his feet.

A trail of blood snaked down from the steps above, stopping right at his feet.

At the same time, the sound of heavy breathing, like that of a beast in deep sleep, drifted down from above.

Li Miao glanced at Shore behind him, then swapped the Law Knight’s Greatsword in his hand for his +2 Candlefire Scimitar.

The space in the lighthouse was getting narrower, which would make the Law Knight’s Greatsword difficult to wield.

Without Li Miao needing to say a word, Shore took out his Devil Fish Tail Staff, ready to attack at a moment’s notice.

Li Miao resumed his climb and soon reached the fifth floor, where he saw the source of the heavy breathing.

It was a blood-stained, canine-like monster with sharp fangs, sleeping soundly while hugging a human thigh bone.

[Bloody Hound]

Although it was Ember Tier, it was only Level 11 and had no special Warfire.

Seeing this, Li Miao’s tension eased slightly.

’With all that buildup, I thought it’d be something fierce, but it’s just a doggy.’

"Grr..."

As if sensing an unusual scent, the Bloody Hound woke with a start.

But before it could even react, the Candlefire Scimitar sliced down toward its head in a powerful arc.

[Acquired: Antonista’s Collar ×1]

"What the heck? Antonista... Why did it drop a dog collar?"

After muttering to himself, Li Miao stored it away.

"That’s it? I thought there’d be a big boss," Shore said, unable to hide his disappointment.

"Don’t let your guard down. There’s still one more floor, isn’t there?"

Li Miao shook his head, his gaze turning to the staircase.

’If I’m not mistaken, the sixth floor should be the very top.’

"Hee hee hee..."

A muffled, low laugh from above seemed to confirm his suspicion.

Furthermore, a faint red light, exactly the same as the one they had seen from the sea, appeared on the stairs leading to the sixth floor.

"Should we, uh, stack some buffs before we go up?"

Shore asked, taking out a crab.

Li Miao paused. ’The watchdog below was Ember Tier. The one at the top is probably tougher. It’s never wrong to be careful.’

He unceremoniously took the crab and bit into it, immediately feeling a faint increase in his Power.

"Here, have this too. Spicy strips. They taste pretty good."

Shore said, taking out two more items that looked like sea serpents.

[Cooked Sea Serpent]

[Explanation: Consumable]

[Effect: After consumption, your attacks will apply a weak poison for a period of time.]

"So they really are spicy strips..." Li Miao took them, and after giving them a weird look, he took a bite anyway. "Where’d you get so many consumables?"

"Fished ’em. I’ve got more." As he spoke, Shore actually took out two more catches that looked like turtles.

"Okay, that’s enough," Li Miao quickly stopped him, because he suddenly realized the low laughter from the sixth floor had vanished.

Looking at the top of the stairs, both of them suddenly froze.

Because at the top of the stairs, a huge, terrifying, blood-stained face was staring down at them.

It was dressed in a tattered Believer Robe, its body impaled with blades from which blood oozed. Its face was covered in wounds so deep you could see the bone, its eye sockets were webbed with countless blood vessels, and its eyes were nothing but hollow pools of red—an utterly terrifying sight.

Its gaze seemed to say, ’Are you two seriously having snacks right now?’

[Lighthouse Keeper]

[Tier: Embers]

[Level: 15]

[Warfire: ?]

[Talent: ?]

[Skills: Unknown]

[Explanation: A bizarre heretic. After killing the original Lighthouse Keeper, it took its place, marking all who come here with a mad, bloody light.]

"Ghh..."

"AAAAHH!!!"

Its chest expanded slightly, and then the Lighthouse Keeper unleashed a sharp, terrifying shriek down at the two of them. It was as if formless hands were frantically tearing at their ears.

"Holy shit." Li Miao quickly raised his Large Shield as his Warfire ignited, shielding both himself and Shore.

While blocking the attack, Li Miao also swung his hand, sending out a wave of Crescent Moon Sword Qi.
