Chapter 300: Proper

"Why can’t they just say what they want directly?"

"I told you, they may just wish for something impulsively after their death so it may be wrong."

No. 444 frown. "It’s a hassle."

Ji could only smile lightly at his words. Truthfully, many grim reapers thought it was also a hassle so there are many colleagues who only do this work half-heartedly. They just thought that it was a waste of time even though that’s the last thing they lack.

He actually despises such words. They are born as a grim reaper with a purpose. They have the responsibility to do their job properly. The advantages they had— the privilege as a grim reaper who can have strength and endless time was something that was bestowed to them so he felt that it is only right to pay for it through doing their work properly.

Yet of course, not everyone wants to do it.

Grim reapers are indeed born for this purpose but they are also given a consciousness and free will to think and decide like human beings. Throughout the different experiences and environments they work with, they also change. Some of them developed emotions and an ambition to take another path as what they are supposed to do.

Over the years he lived, he encountered many grim reapers. The young ones chose to even rebel and slack off, enjoying what they have to explore every corner of the human world while many old grim reapers wanted something deeper, like authority.

In truth, many wanted to leave this job yet they didn’t have that choice to begin with. This influenced them to either not do their job or protest for their rights.’ But such so-called ’rights’ was something that he felt perplexed. Being a grim reaper was like something they naturally had to do because they are born to be like that. If not for that fact, they would not exist, so how could they say that the Judge is very selfish for not giving them the ’right’?

Ji couldn’t understand the logic so he decided to leave that out of his mind and work diligently, balancing a rest and the work to live a fulfilling endless life.

He turned his eyes to the grim reaper on his side and thought. Unlike others, No. 444 is someone who seemed devoted to his work. He never questions it nor even does anything other than fighting and serving the world. The only downside was just his own perspective and the indifference inside himself.

But he didn’t think it’ll be a problem at all. The Judge assigned this to him himself. He knew that although the latter found it unreasonable, he would still do it. It may sound forced today but he believes that it will change.

Besides... he glanced at the devil beside Si.

Although the emotions of the devil are negative, it is actually much better than No. 444. After all, it is easier to teach someone who already had an initial knowledge than someone who’s completely clueless.

Now he just has to guide and let one learn the proper principle, the other one would surely follow anyway.

"Master," His thoughts went back to the present when he saw the family looking at them. Right now they are inside the parent’s dream, he lets the child in so he can bid proper farewell to his parents and of course, they can see him. Although he will erase their memories but only the part where they face them.

"Master, can I ask you for a favor?" The mother held a pleading gaze on her eyes. "Please ensure that my child can have a better life next time."

His face was gentle and responded with a tone of assurance. "Don’t worry. The child didn’t do anything wrong in this life. He will surely be granted a better life."

The mother nodded with tears streaming down from her eyes. "T-Thank you so much."

"Then Master, can you please let my son reincarnate in a wealthy family?" The Father asked with a hesitant tone. "I-I think it’s because we didn’t have more money so we couldn’t get any better treatment or even at least a better life for him when he was still alive. We are not qualified at all, so I hope that he will be in a family that can give that to him."

He didn’t respond this time. This part is something that he could no longer control. It is something that is purely made by fate. Kind souls like children and good samaritans have high chances of having a better life in their next life but it’ll be unknown what kind of family they’ll have.

After all, there are instances that even having no family can lead to a better life instead.

This is purely by fate.

However, the child so unexpectedly heard his father’s words, rather than being excited about that future, he quickly shook his head at him.

"I don’t want anyone! I want you to be my Mom and Dad!"

"Child!" The father hurriedly kneels and grabs his child’s shoulder gently. "This is something that we hope for as parents. Don’t you want to live more than this? That life must have many toys and you can also travel around. That’s a good life for you!"

"But that would mean you’re not my parents! I don’t want to change! I am your family!"

How could a parent not feel soft-hearted at those words? A child is willing to have you again as parents is something that you will forever cherish to remember.

The mother cries more. "Child, we want you to have a better life, okay?"

The child still refused so the father could only push his son lightly towards the grin reaper.

"Master, please guide my child."

Ji nodded. "I will."

The next moments were another emotional hug and tears for a goodbye before the child finally took his hand. The dream also ended and they went back to the present hospital room where the parents are crying loudly after waking up from that dream.

"M-Master, I will go with you." The child finally uttered those words with a sincere tone.

Ji smiled and patted the child’s head. Looking at his eyes that were looking at his parents head with a longing gaze, his heart softened.

Ji sighs and opens the magic circle. Soft light slowly envelops the child.

"Child, I will grant another wish for you." He said.

The child was stunned at his words before his eyes lit up when he realized what he meant. Before the light could envelop him wholly, he excitedly shouted his last wish.

"Master, please let them be my parents again! I want them to be my parents again!"

Ji let a small wisp of his merit out from his fingers and let it land on the child.

"Alright." he smiled softly. "Until another chance of meeting again. Goodbye."
