Chapter 303: Old Woman

"You need to have a reason or a purpose." This was Ji’s answer to Si’s question when he asked how to have a heart on the next day of their departure.

"What kind of reason? Isn’t the Judge’s task for me to do this right a reason? I want to have a heart so I can complete what he told me."

Ji couldn’t help but exhale, feeling a bit frustrated. He felt like they’re going around in circles because No. 444 couldn’t get it. No matter how much he tries to explain, he wouldn’t understand anything about feelings or emotions.

It’s like no matter what words he’ll say, he will not waver a bit. Is it really because he has no heart?

"Our next soul is named Liu Hua, 85 years old and just died due to her old age." Ji said while scrolling through the information of the soul they need to receive from his scroll. He let the golden scroll float and let the two look at the information while he looked at the surroundings they were in.

They are now in a rural village. Unlike the city’s flourish buildings and noises from transportation, this village was located in deep mountains. The houses around are old and the life here is backward. However, what caught his attention was the breathtaking nature that surrounds the village.

The trees are large and dense, full of greens and vitality from the crops and vegetables that everyone planted. It seems that even though they are not on par with the recent digital means, they have the blessing of life from nature.

He took a deep breath and smiled. The fresh air and cool breeze cooled his mind and he felt the energy back on his body.

"Let’s go!" He beckoned the two and they strode towards the house where their target is in.

On the other side, No. 444 also subconsciously followed Ji’s eyes to look at the surroundings and he was stunned.

This is probably the first time in a while that he saw such a scene. For him, forest and mountains means another place to gather points and merits. It only meant a battlefield to fight with monsters. He doesn’t have any time to just stand like this and stare at every tree nor feel the cool air in this place. It’s familiar yet strangely unfamiliar to him to see this place in another perspective so he was a bit surprised.

Only when Ji walked away did he subconsciously also follow, yet his eyes were unknowingly looking back and forth that he didn’t even notice.

They arrived in an old house where they could hear the loud cries and wailing inside. This sight is very normal for them so they went straight to the soul on the side.

"Grandma." Ji was very friendly and approached the soul with a gentle smile on his face. "Grandma, it’s time."

The old woman was sitting beside a young child and was trying to calm her down. Hearing someone calling her, she raised her head and was greeted by three unfamiliar men.

They were stunned again. Did he really call her name directly?

"Si, wait—"

"You can say your wish and regrets in this life to fulfill. After that, you can come with us to leave."

Ji took a deep breath and calmed himself down. He felt like No. 444 is really living up to everyone’s expectations of him! It’s no wonder that some of their colleagues don’t ever want to talk to him! He thought that maybe they thought he’s just cold but no one told him he could be this blunt and bold!

"Grandma, please don’t mind his words." He tries to smile. "We are here to ask you to come with us. Leaving your grandson like this is indeed sad so we are here to help you so you could come with us without any regret in your life."

On the side, Si frowns. Aren’t their words just the same? Ji saying those words is still the same as saying they will fulfill her wish, so what’s the problem with him just asking her directly?

Why not be direct and ask your intentions so there won’t be a waste of time?

He looked at Yin with that expression on his face but saw the man looking at him with a rare tired face.

He was even more confused. What’s wrong?

As expected, after the old woman heard those words, her face turned grim immediately.

"I don’t want to leave!"

"You can’t do anything here anymore. Your life is over." Si’s face was even just calm as he spouted those words directly to the old woman.

"Y-You damn brat!" Liu Hua’s face turns red in anger and she grabs a wooden stick on her side but unfortunately, a ghost cannot touch anything.

"No, Si—" He tries to stop.

"What’s the point of staying here? Your family cannot even see you anymore and there’s nothing you can change after your death. It’s better to leave."

"Si, that’s not it—"

"Please state your wish now and let’s not waste time."

"No. 444!" He finally shouted. The usual gentleness on his face was gone and he rudely raised his hand to cover his colleagues mouth while glaring at him.
