Chapter 307 - 305: A Child’s AngerChapter 305: A Child’s Anger
"Shall I give him a nightmare for you?" No. 444 asked the old woman after the scene earlier. She eventually stopped shouting in anger after a moment of time and left the house again. She went back to her position earlier and didn’t say a word after that.
Si just followed her silently until he broke it with those words.
The old woman snorted. "What’s the use of that nightmare if he can just wake up? I am certain that he will not change anyway!"
She couldn’t feel any happiness right now. As a mother, how can she bear not to see her only son that she loves dearly? Her husband died early and only by seeing her son can she feel the longing of his presence. However that feeling gradually turned into anger and disappointment as the years went by.
She didn’t expect that her son would become like this. A bastard who heartlessly left his son without any care as a father.
In the beginning, he promised to visit every time he could. He said that he was left with no choice but to leave his son here so he could work harder for the family and that woman. They left but she understood that they wanted their son to have a better life so she agreed. It was also her grandson’s presence that made her happy again.
Until later, that promise broke and only stays as words. He never fulfilled it. There was no visit. How could she? Her heart aches every time the child would innocently ask about his parents. She would feel anxious every time she thought that he’ll be bullied by these circumstances that he never asked for.
Eventually, those two filed a divorce and that woman didn’t even say goodbye to her own son. She also thought that he would come back here to explain and appease her son but to her disappointment, he never did.
She thought, what’s the difference between the two? One is a mother who abandoned her son while the father has no presence, even worse than being dead!
Later, he remarried another woman and she heard that she came from a wealthy family but what’s the use again? Yes, the money he sent increased a lot but can that erase the longing of the child? Now that he has a new family, will he totally abandon him?
Over time, she even felt that all the patience and love for her son disappeared after witnessing her grandson’s loneliness and longing for his parents. All that was left was resentment and disappointment. She tried to fulfill both roles of a mother and father for her grandson but she knew that it will never be better unless it’s them.
Now it was too late for her. She’s already dead anyway, but what about her grandson? Who will take care of him the way she was? She no longer trusts her own son.
But there was no other choice. For now, the only thing that she could hope for was him to come to his senses and act like a father.
Liu Hua forced her own anger onto herself and stood up again.
"Xiaoyuan!" A call brought her back to her reality. She saw her grandson Xiaoyuan running in her direction and squatted down with his head down and tears streaming down from his face.
Her son, Liu Zhang, came forward looking anxious at his son.
"Xiaoyuan, listen to me—"
"I said it already! I don’t want to come with you! I don’t know you!" Xiaoyuan shouted.
"Xiaoyuan, I am your Dad." Liu Zhang tried to appease him but his words only enraged the child.
"Dad?! I have no father!"
Liu Zhang kneels on one knee and looks at him. "Look, I’m very sorry that I was late, okay? But don’t worry, I can take care of you. I promise to not leave you again. Please forgive Dad, okay? Please give me a chance, Xiaoyuan."
The child, longing for a father, quickly raises his head after hearing those words. "R-Really?"
Liu Zhang sighs in relief. "Yes, of course. So you don’t have to worry anymore, okay? I will treat you better and we will live together."
Xiaoyuan’s expression turned bright. "So you will stay here now?!" His voice sounds excited at the thought that his father will finally be here with him yet the next words were once again a disappointment.
"Xiaoyuan, you will come to me, okay? I have a big house there and you can live more comfortably."
He gasps. "But what about here?!"
Liu Zhang sighed. "What’s so great about this place? Xiaoyuan, I know this is where you and your grandma live but with me here, you can go to school. We can go wherever you want and I can buy you many things there."
Unexpectedly, the child became angry again and his words.
"No! I don’t want it! I want to stay here! Grandma is here! I want to stay here because this is my grandma’s house!"
"But she’s not here anymore—"
"No! She’s still here!"
Liu Zhang tried to reach out the child’s arm but the latter quickly stepped backwards and shot glares at him.
"It’s because of you! Grandma keeps on saying that you will come and wait for you! You left me here! You left Grandma! I don’t want to stay with you! I don’t want you!"
"Xiaoyuan! I’m your father!"
"Father?!" The innocence on the child’s face was gone, his eyes were filled with thick resentment. "I have no father! I only have grandma! She’s my only family, not you!"
Liu Zhang clenches his fist, pain flash on his face as he listens to his child’s anger. However he knew that he deserved such words the most.
"Please, I can make it up to you, okay? Give me a chance, Xiaoyuan. I can be a father to you now." Liu Zhang began begging. His eyes were red from his crying earlier and now he felt his eyes getting warm again from the tears forming.
"... What about Grandma?" The child pursed his lips, forcing himself to stop crying even though the tears won’t stop.
Liu Zhang thought that Xiaoyuan hadn’t processed her death so he wanted to explain what happened again.
"Xiaoyuan, listen to me. I know it’s hard to accept the truth but that happened. Grandma is already with grandpa, okay? She left you to me so I can make it up to you now. I promise to be your father now, a family. I know you’ve been waiting for so long but I’m here now—"
"... B-But it’s not just me who waited for you." The child’s words suddenly felt like a bucket of cold water splashing on him.
The child looked him straight in the eyes, the pain was not just for him about his longing but also for the only family that had been with him ’till her death.
"M-My grandma... G-Grandma waited for you too. Isn’t she your family? T-Then why didn’t you come here for her?"
