There were only a few days left until the competition, and excitement continued spreading throughout the academy.

During those few days, he focused on mentally preparing himself for the competition ahead.

"We should prepare more. More studying and practice will help," Nyx recommended.

But June knew better.

Ryan sat across from them, quietly watching as the two brainstormed and tried to understand the nature of their powers.

"I think the kiss brings the powers out more," Nyx casually said.

His voice was much louder than it should have been.

Several people nearby immediately turned to look at them.

June instantly slapped a hand over Nyx’s mouth.

But it was already too late.

Ryan’s eyes were glued to them.

June slowly smiled at everyone around them.

"He’s sleepy. He doesn’t know what he’s saying."

Then he turned toward Ryan with a smile.

Ryan blinked. He didn’t say anything.

After a moment, he simply shook his head with a knowing smile and lowered his gaze back to the BL novel he had been reading.

June immediately glared at Nyx.

Nyx bit his lower lip.

"Let’s continue... with coded language and lower tones."

Nyx slowly nodded.

"Mmm."

Ryan watched them continue brainstorming for a while before suddenly smiling.

"Why don’t you two practice by kissing? That might actually help."

June and Nyx slowly turned toward him, Speechless.

Ryan shrugged.

"I mean, I’m just saying. Since Nyx said it works, and it clearly isn’t the first time it’s happened... maybe you can actually kiss and see what happens."

June gasped dramatically.

"I can’t believe you want to satisfy your yaoi dreams through me. Never. Continue reading."

Ryan smiled and shrugged. "I’m just trying to help."

"Find a better way."

Nyx turned toward June. "Maybe he’s actually right. We can try..."

June stared at him. "I can’t believe he got to you too."

He pointed toward the book. "Continue brainstorming. We can’t just be kissing during every mission."

"Why not?"

June choked. He cleared his throat and stared at Nyx without a word.

Nyx simply adjusted his glasses with a small smile.

June shook his head. "He’s gotten to you too."

He placed a hand dramatically against Nyx’s forehead. "Who corrupted the innocent villain now?"

"I mean, if it works, then we can actually—"

June immediately pointed toward the papers.

"Enough kiss talk for today. Study time."

Ryan smiled as he shook his head.

He pulled out his phone and casually began scrolling through the trending discussions on the academy forum.

Then he suddenly raised an eyebrow.

"Oh."

June looked toward him. "What now? Did another author announce they’re putting their book on hiatus or discontinuing their comic entirely?"

Ryan adjusted his glasses.

"No. It’s about you and the competition."

June and Nyx immediately looked at him.

"What’s it now?"

Ryan sighed.

"The Elite Five made a post. They’re telling you to go and assemble your team for the competition."

He looked between June and Nyx.

"They claim they want things to be fair, so they’re giving you the opportunity to form a team that can compete against them."

Silence followed.

June leaned back in his chair.

"Fair, my ass. They just want another opportunity to show off."

"No one would want to team up with us against them, though," Nyx pointed out.

June sighed.

"Clearly. Only people close to us would even consider doing something like that..."

He paused. Then slowly turned toward Ryan.

Ryan looked up from his phone only to find both June and Nyx staring eagerly at him.

"What?" he demanded.

June smiled.

He leaned across the table and gently grabbed Ryan’s hand.

"Please join my team."

Ryan blinked.

"You’re the only person I have who might actually join us. So please, join the team and show your support."

June gave him his best puppy eyes.

Ryan stared at June.

Then he looked at Nyx who was also staring at him.

And after a moment, Nyx nodded.

Ryan hesitated.

His eyes slowly lowered toward June’s hand wrapped around his.

For a moment, he said nothing.

His other hand trembled slightly, and he quietly clenched it until it stopped.

Then he looked up with a small smile.

"I’m sorry, but..." He paused. "I really can’t join you."
