Chapter 118: 118: WIND UP

It was as fast as connecting your phone to a charger.

Ryan closed his eyes and opened them, and immediately, he had synced with Kael despite the chaotic distance between them. He didn’t need to get close.

Then his voice echoed directly inside Kael’s mind.

Now kill those things.

Kael suddenly felt an outburst of power surge through him. He gripped his staff firmly and shot into the air, striking the dragons at their vulnerable spots without fear and without missing a hit.

He struck them repeatedly, forcing the dragons to stagger backward as they gradually began losing their purple sparks of energy.

June and Nyx watched everything unfold from below.

"Is this why you wanted us to stay back...?" Nyx asked as he stared at June.

June folded his arms and released a deep sigh, his attention fixed on Ryan.

"Pretty much..." He narrowed his eyes. "Is it me, or does he feel... not so F-rank?"

Nyx slowly nodded. "I feel that too..."

June had wanted to stay back and watch how Ryan would handle the situation.

And just as he had predicted, Ryan actually did handle it.

"It seems they have it under control..." Nyx said.

June smiled and turned toward him.

"Yes. Pretty much. So let’s move on to our next agenda for staying back here."

Nyx stared at him.

"Huh?"

June smiled.

"Want a kiss?"

Nyx didn’t hesitate.

He slowly nodded. "Yes..."

June smiled. "Close your eyes, then."

Nyx immediately did so, positioning himself and waiting expectantly for the kiss.

But June simply smiled as he leaned closer and pressed his lips against Nyx’s cheek instead.

Nyx opened his eyes, looking slightly disappointed when he realized it was only a cheek kiss.

Still, he accepted it.

June kissed his cheek gently while carefully studying the circulation of energy within him. Then, without Nyx noticing, his lips slowly moved from his cheek toward his lips.

Nyx almost gasped.

His eyes opened as he stared down at June, whose lips were already pressed against his.

It was too late to pull away.

So Nyx simply stared at him, feeling his lips slowly melt against June’s. He gradually relaxed as well, accepting the soft kiss and allowing himself to respond.

Soon, the two of them were trapped in a gentle, soft kiss.

---

Simon was bruised and bleeding.

He had fallen to his knees, struggling to hold onto his staff as he fought against the wind monsters coming toward him.

He had been fighting for quite some time now, and throughout the battle, Finn constantly found himself in danger.

So Simon repeatedly had to go back and save him, getting injured in the process.

"Are you okay...?" Finn asked as he approached and held onto Simon, who was struggling to get back to his feet.

"You should stay back here and... don’t move. Don’t come trying to save me, okay?" Simon said.

Finn slowly nodded.

"But..." he hesitated. "We’re no match for these things. We should back down. Let’s quit before you get hurt even more. It’s not worth it."

He looked toward Simon.

"We’re no match for the Elite 5 anyway... You should know that."

Simon stared at him.

"That’s enough. I promised June I would help him out, so we’ll see this through to the end. Besides, it’s not like we’ll die in here..."

He struggled back to his feet, pulled up his staff, and summoned a massive wind around himself.

"Make sure you guide me through this..."

Finn nodded.

"I’ll try my best..."

He watched as Simon shot into the air with his staff.

Simon swung his staff through the atmosphere as a massive tornado began building around him. The wind monsters, which had taken the forms of different animals, charged toward him through the air.

He struggled to maintain the tornado while using it to swallow the monsters whole.

Somehow, he succeeded.

He pulled the wind animals into the tornado and violently forced them downward while they struggled to break free.

But Simon could feel himself slowly breaking down.

With Finn guiding him, he was supposed to feel at least some relief.

Yet he wasn’t feeling anything.

He struggled to hold onto the wind, and the guiding wasn’t helping him at all.

Finn stood at a distance, staring toward the tornado as it continued growing larger and larger, occupying almost the entire space.

Inside it, Simon could no longer hold on.

So, with the last ounce of energy he could find within himself, he decided to destroy everything trapped inside.

"Ahhh!"

He released his remaining energy in a massive blast.

The tornado exploded across the atmosphere, sending violent waves of wind and energy spreading throughout the entire space.

The explosion shook the battlefield.

---

"What was that...?" Kael asked as he and Ryan sat on the eagle, staring toward the atmosphere.

June and Nyx had already stopped kissing and were also looking in the same direction as powerful winds continued blasting through the air.

"Simon..." Ryan said. "I think that was him..."

"Let’s go find them," June immediately said.

The four of them climbed onto the eagle, and it instantly took off into the air.

---

Simon broke free from the remains of the tornado and began falling from the sky.

His arms were spread wide as he rapidly descended toward the ground.

"Simon!" Finn shouted as he ran forward to catch him.

But he was already too late.

Nyx suddenly swept through the air and caught Simon mid-fall before bringing him safely down to the ground.

June and the others quickly landed and gathered around him.

"You all..." Finn stared at them, clearly surprised.

"What?" Ryan casually asked. "Why are you acting like you’re surprised that we’re okay?"

"No, no... I’m just happy you all are okay. I was scared..." Finn quickly said with a smile.

Ryan and June moved closer to Simon, carefully checking his condition.

Ryan ran a finger behind Simon’s ear as he studied his energy.

"He’s in a really terrible state. His energy core is unstable..." He frowned. "I don’t think he can fight again anytime soon. He used too much energy..."

June sighed and nodded.

"It seems like it..."

Kael folded his arms as he stared down at Simon.

"But how did it get this bad? He had his Guide with him."

His eyes slowly moved toward Finn.

"And if my memory serves me right, the two of you are a strangely powerful duo."

Kael narrowed his eyes.

"Even if you’re an F-rank, you’re extremely compatible with him. Compatible enough to carry him through difficult situations."

He stared directly at Finn.

"So what happened?"

All eyes slowly turned toward Finn.
