Kelly shook his head as he said, "No. No, we’re not doing that." He opened his eyes as he stared at the man standing on the stage, who was done with the pairing. "We’re not doing that rubbish."

The students went quiet as the man proceeded to make other announcements. He was the principal of the Academy—Mr. Bradford.

And his announcement was pretty easy to comprehend even after his long talk: The final examination was coming in a week’s time. And only 50 people would be selected—30 Espers and 20 Guides. Those who passed the final exams stay; those who lose go.

In a world plagued by monsters, dungeons opened randomly, threatening to break the peace of the world by letting monsters from these dungeons break free. And with such a situation came the concept of awakening. Some humans were given special powers to clear and close these dungeons and protect the world from danger.

These so-called heroes were seen as Espers and Guides. Espers—those with the physical power to take down these monsters in combat and clear the dungeon. But these Espers are prone to going berserk with such output of power. So they needed Guides to keep them sane while aiding their smooth clearance of dungeons.

And this academy, Arcadia Academy—the top 1 elite academy for training Guides and Espers. They have a long-running reputation of accepting and training pure talents who turn out best in the job.

Every year, they accept a group of students and train them. And Kelly was part of this current intake. But they weren’t officially students yet. Because after the application, they took like a hundred students, and then they go through a month’s worth of training and tests to know their stands and worth, while grading them accordingly.

Then a week from then, they would hold a final examination where they’d raid a fake dungeon to test them. And that would determine who stays and who goes.

Pretty simple. And Kelly liked that because he was certainly going to tank that examination, flee from this academy, and flee from the fate of this character. Easy peasy.

At that moment, Kelly saw the silver lining to his current situation. He was an insignificant side character who didn’t add much to the plot, and he was freaking rich as well. This character was from one of the most elite families in the country.

So instead of wasting his time pursuing a man, he should have spent more time with his riches. Kelly shook his head at his stupidity as he decided to himself, "I’ll do that for him. I’ll spend and enjoy his money for him."

Kelly smiled as he relaxed in his seat. Maybe this was actually the real vacation he never truly got for 10 years of his life. Being young and agile again while also being rich!

He could literally do anything with that money. And he was going to do that instead of wasting time on this dumb plot he was already tired of.

---

The gathering was over as everyone began dispersing. The professors and administrators were already gone as the students slowly began leaving the hall.

Some were staring at him, making mocking sounds while giggling at how furious he must be to be paired with another useless student.

But Kelly didn’t care.

Kelly sat there with a smile lingering on his face as he thought of a thousand things he could literally do with all the riches he had now. Maybe travel around the world and buy a private jet or something? Build a pool? He had always wanted to do that.

Oh, he was rich and probably had that at home! He smiled more.

"Being lazy has never felt so good..." he nodded as he closed his eyes, imagining how he was going to tank the final examination.

They would casually announce that he was eliminated and probably think he’d cry or something. But he could only imagine himself dancing and celebrating while he made his way to his limousine, heading home on a trip to Japan.

Sweet amen!

He had his eyes closed, daydreaming of a perfect heaven in this world, when someone suddenly tapped him.

The hand tapped once. And then twice, completely ruining his daydream of entering a rocket to go see the moon.

Kelly slowly opened his eyes and stared at the tall young man standing before him. The Blondie. Nyx Faux.

He blinked. "What?"

For a second, this kiddo said nothing. Kelly watched him run his eyes over him as though he was reciting the words he’d say in his head.

Kelly knew he was... he knew this villain’s persona a bit after working on the comic for long now. He knew Nyx was rather an introvert. A loner—he was always quiet and on his own.

And now staring at this blonde, Kelly couldn’t help but ask: How the hell is he a villain?!

If Kelly could describe his character with one word, he’d use "Puppy."

He looked like a big tall puppy. Nyx had the face of someone who could never harm a fly. The face of an innocent young man who could be the sweetest person on earth. He was always quiet and almost always soft-spoken, rarely spoke.

And as Kelly stared at him, he wondered how this innocent fellow got so obsessed with acquiring powers that he went berserk and became the book’s core villain.

He shook his head. "Tragic little boy."

"This..." Nyx managed to say, his hands stretched as he handed him a piece of paper.

Kelly hesitated as he stared at it, his jaws almost dropping. It was a schedule—a fucking practice and study session.

This kid was on a mission to ruin his perfect vacation plan!

He had made a full-page detailed plan on:

Times they’d practice guiding.

Times they’d study.

Times they’d watch dungeon raiding sessions for immersion.

Times they’d even visit real-life dungeons around!

Sweet heavens! This jerk was on a mission to kill me before my time!
