What’s worse than surviving a zombie apocalypse, you ask? Well, that would probably be surviving office work life. And Kelly was a living testimony to that.

As one of the editors of one of the most popular online manhua comic companies in the country, everyone probably thought he had it easy. But it was the complete opposite for Kelly.

Life as an editor in this company was pure torture for him. And pouring ten years of his almost boring life into the company certainly didn’t help matters at all, because he saw all the shades of torture modern workers face in the work industry.

After university in his early 20s, he had entered the company—his dream company. A place where he could be close to manhua, which he enjoyed reading. That was basically a dream job! But it had soon become the worst decision he had made.

He started off working as a social media handler, enthusiastic about it. But as the years went by, the zeal faded with all the shady things happening. He got promoted over the years—from a server helper, to the marketing department, to an assistant editor, and finally to a chief editor. It was supposed to be a good flow of promotion, but the zeal was already dead. And the hectic work demands and injustice killed him even more. He had lost the zeal to even enjoy reading comics.

Work flooded in when he became chief editor. Reviewing thousands of works in a week and working overtime around it. Comics now appeared like torture to him, but there was one that specifically made life hell for him.

The company’s most popular BL comic: BeMy Guide. Typically a comic about the love story of an S-class Esper and an F-Class Guide. But as cliché as the premise might be, it sold well.

The book was never under his care, but he was forced to work on the comic because the editor in charge was always sick, or on leave, or suddenly lost all family members for the tenth time.

The boss never cared. He hated him enough to dump all work on him and made his life hell when something went wrong.

Error in Chapter translation? Hell for him. Awkward or inaccurate color layering? Hell! Low income generation? Hell for him. Kelly never caught a break, even for mistakes that were never his fault. And the author of the work made issues worse because he was never cooperative at all! He was pure hell for Kelly to communicate with, and he never listened to his advice. This author always did as he liked, and any mistakes he made always caused Kelly great trouble.

And even after all his hard work, all praises for the work always went to the lazy editor and nothing for Kelly. And he could not complain because his boss didn’t see an issue with it.

Kelly lived through that horror for the three years within which that book was still trending daily. Constantly seeing that manhua that had refused to end always gave him high blood pressure.

He wished he could delete everything. He hated the character images, he hated the storyline. Everything about the work reminded him of the torment he went through because of that work. But he could do nothing.

Until one day, he was working overnight on the book in his office. His head was aching, he hadn’t slept for days now. And so he decided to rest his head for a minute and then continue with this hell of a book.

Only for him to suddenly wake up in the damn comic.

---

Kelly blinked as he stared at the man standing on the stage talking—calling out names of people who came to take their cards and find their pairing.

His heart shattered as he scoffed, a devastated smile escaping his lips. "As if making my life hell wasn’t enough, it even had to pull me into its chaos..."

He shook his head as he looked around, understanding everything better now.

He had become a cannon fodder character. Or rather, an insignificant side character who has little screen time or storyline. The little times he was shown, he was rather an insufferable bitch.

June En was from an elite family. And in this world of Espers and guides, he was a guide. But a low-rank guide who used his strong family background to get into an academy that was meant for pure talents. And so everyone hated his rich guts. But that wasn’t the end.

This character only appeared when he was being possessive of the male lead. He apparently came into the school after falling in love with the male lead, whom he had known since they were kids since they were both from rich families. And with that possessive crush, he wanted to go to the same academy as him.

There, he always bullied the main character of this novel, whom the male lead liked. He was always the nasty bitch plotting against the main character while looking for ways to win over the male lead. That was his sole aim in their academy.

And well, he didn’t get it. And rather ended up dead in this book at the hands of the comic’s villain.

At that moment, Kelly sighed as he slowly turned to stare at the blonde guy he was paired with, his heart skipping a beat as their eyes locked.

The blonde was sitting at the back and was staring at him as well. Their eyes locked for a while before Kelly turned and faced his front with a deep sigh.

Nyx Faux.

20 years.

Esper.

F Rank.

"And he’s the one... The villain who killed this pathetic side character," Kelly scoffed as he shook his head, recalling the plot’s detail.

It was quite simple to comprehend. In the original novel, after his character was paired with this villain, he treated him like a jerk. June’s character looked down on this villain and trampled on him always. And this made the villain hate his character in the long run.

So when Nyx Faux, an F-class Esper, suddenly possessed a random demonic power out of desperation, he went berserk. And when this villain was about to kill the male lead, the comic threw in their cannon fodder—his character. And his character was killed brutally at the hands of this villain while serving as the shield for the main couple’s true love.

What a show.
