[BL] Oops! Guiding The F Class Villain Esper Gone Wrong!
Chapter 45: COMPATIBILITY TEST?Chapter 45: 45: COMPATIBILITY TEST?
The awkward silence lingered for a moment before June finally realized what the professor was referring to. His perfume.
He had sprayed on an expensive designer fragrance before leaving home. Perhaps the professor was curious about the brand.
June smiled. "Oh, my perfume? It’s actually a pretty well-known brand, but this particular one is a limited edition, so I doubt you’d be able to find it anywhere—."
"Never wear that to my class," the professor interrupted coldly.
The room instantly fell silent.
"In my class," he continued, "you will not wear anything flashy."
June simply nodded without arguing. As he looked at the man, one thing became painfully obvious. This professor didn’t like him.
"Take your seat."
June quietly walked to the back and sat down, ignoring the curious gazes around him.
Instead, he kept his attention on the professor, trying to remember whether this character had ever appeared in the novel or if there was any history between them. Nothing came to mind.
The lecture resumed as the professor launched into a long explanation about mana, its properties, and its applications.
Unfortunately, the lesson was so painfully dull that June found himself struggling to stay conscious. The man’s voice sounded less like a lecture and more like a lullaby.
He glanced at the clock. Two hours...? Was this lecture ever going to end?
His eyelids grew heavier with every passing minute until he finally gave in. Placing a textbook upright in front of his face as camouflage, he quietly drifted off to sleep.
Apparently, the disguise didn’t fool anyone. A shadow soon fell over his desk. The professor stood directly in front of him before calmly pulling the book away from his face.
June’s eyes flew open. "Ah... I..."
The professor’s expression remained as cold as ever. "Let this serve as both a warning and a reminder."
He turned and slowly walked back toward the front of the classroom before continuing. "Just because you come from a wealthy family doesn’t make you superior to anyone else here. If anything, it usually makes people like you a burden to society."
He stopped beside his desk and looked directly at June. "And just because you cleared a single anomaly dungeon doesn’t make you special either. At the end of the day..."
His gaze sharpened. "...you’re still an F-Rank."
There was no mistaking the hostility in those eyes. The man genuinely despised him. But why?
Fortunately, the lecture soon ended. The professor, whose name turned out to be Mr. Watt, gathered his notes before making one final announcement.
"I’m sure everyone is already aware of the Pairing Program taking place this weekend." His eyes deliberately skipped over June. "This will be your first official evaluation as academy students, so prepare yourselves well."
With that, he left the classroom.
The room immediately erupted into conversation while June remained seated, completely confused. Pairing Program...? He had absolutely no idea what everyone was talking about.
Granted, his plan was to fail every evaluation anyway, but he was still curious about what this particular test involved.
Looking around the room, he searched for someone approachable. Most students clearly wanted nothing to do with him, but eventually his eyes landed on a petite boy wearing oversized glasses.
With his fluffy black hair and studious appearance, he looked like the type who wouldn’t mind answering a simple question.
June walked over and rested one hand on the boy’s desk. "Mind explaining this Pairing Program to me? What’s it about?"
The boy blinked behind his thick glasses, hesitating for a moment before finally answering.
"It’s our first evaluation. Basically, it’s to determine who we’ll be paired with. You can think of it as an Esper and Guide compatibility assessment."
June nodded. "So... the academy randomly matches us after testing compatibility?"
The boy shook his head. "No. We choose the partner we believe we’re most compatible with first. Then, during the evaluation, each pair enters a simulated Berserk Dungeon where their synchronization and stability are tested."
He adjusted his glasses before continuing. "If your compatibility score is above fifty percent, you’re officially paired. If it’s below fifty, you’ll have to find another partner and wait for a rescheduled evaluation... assuming one ever happens."
" If you choose the wrong person, you could remain unpaired for the rest of the academic year."
June slowly nodded in understanding. "Oh... I get it."
His mission suddenly became incredibly simple. He just wouldn’t choose anyone.
No partner meant no evaluation, and no evaluation meant no dangerous plot developments involving villains, berserk dungeons, or tragic deaths.
Perfect.
"Thanks, buddy." He casually patted the boy on the head.
Just then, a few girls sitting near the back of the classroom scoffed loudly. "Listen to him asking questions like he’ll actually find someone willing to pair with him."
The others laughed. "I know, right? Just because he fooled everyone during that anomaly dungeon and somehow got admitted, he thinks he’s special."
"He’s definitely going to embarrass himself this time," another girl added. "The evaluation system is much stricter. I’d love to see who he’s planning to fool now."
"An F-Rank clearing an anomaly dungeon?" one of them sneered. "What a joke."
June hadn’t intended to respond, but they were becoming increasingly irritating. Rolling his eyes, he turned toward them and folded his arms.
"The last time I checked, none of you even made it into the academy’s overall Top Forty."
He raised an eyebrow. "So how exactly do you still have the confidence to mock someone who ranked higher than all of you?"
He shrugged. "Money or no money, I still placed above you. Instead of complaining about my results, maybe spend that energy practicing your own skills."
June remembered these girls from the original novel. They were infamous gossipmongers who had barely made the rankings themselves.
The girls froze, completely speechless. June simply winked before walking toward the classroom door.
"How rude..." One of them pouted after he left. " I didn’t even rank that low..."
Another sighed. "I was only forty-one."
———
As soon as June stepped out of the classroom, he almost walked straight into Nyx, who had been quietly waiting outside the entire time.
June blinked up at him. "What... what are you doing here?"
Nyx didn’t answer. Instead, he silently raised the cupcake in his hand and held it out toward June.
