"Haah... Sob... Haah..."
A village girl sat on a shaky chair. Tears running down the sides of her freckled face. She was really scared.
In that moment, Devon put his hands on her shoulder, and she started trembling like a leaf in the wind.
He leaned close and licked her face, savoring the taste of the tears that just kept running like a river.
"Unh..."
The village girl let out a disgusted sound, but she couldn’t do anything and just sat there frozen in fear.
"I don’t get it."
Devon said, and then he sat across from the village girl.
"Tears of the locals have a sweet taste to them. Real tears have a salty taste. Why is that so? Why did the game developers make it so?"
He asked.
However.
The village girl didn’t know what he meant by that, as some terms were unknown to her, like game developer.
"I’ve experimented on players and locals alike to find the differences in the anatomy. I’ve also done my fair share of autopsies back in the real world.
"Did you know that local hearts are a size smaller than player hearts? Why is that so? I believe it is because it’d be easier to kill players that way.
"With a bigger heart, it’s easier to land a Critical Hit."
Devon said.
"I-I don’t know what you’re talking about... P-Please, can I just go?"
"NO!"
Devon slammed his hand on the table, and it really shook the village girl, who had never seen such anger in a person before.
"We’re here to play."
He said, and then he stood up, walked behind the village girl, and again put his hands on her shoulders.
She felt very delicate like a porcelain doll that might shatter at any moment.
"You will act in a part—you’re now Kara—an ex-girlfriend of mine."
He said, and then he sat back down and looked at the face of the confused village girl, who barely understood what she was supposed to do.
"Kara... It’s been a while."
Devon said with a cold smile.
"Y-Yes..."
The village girl said through tears.
"How’s it been?"
Devon asked.
"G-Good..."
"That’s too bad. I was hoping you’d been miserable. I wanted to see you suffer after what you did to me."
Devon gritted his teeth.
"W-What did I do?"
The village girl asked with confusion.
"You already forgot, Kara? Haha... You bitch!"
Devon clenched his hands into tight fists, and anger oozed out of his body, but he quickly calmed himself down.
"Breathe... breathe..."
He told himself.
The village girl realized that she said something that she shouldn’t have, and then she awkwardly laughed.
"Haha... I am sorry... I remember, and I apologize..."
"You apologize? I thought we were in love, but behind my back, you went and fucked all of my friends.
"They must’ve thought that I was such a joke. And when I caught you in the act, you dared to blame me.
"Like it’s my fault that you are a cheating whore!"
Devon screamed.
It had been three years since he broke up with his ex-girlfriend, but the scars of those memories were etched into his mind.
"I am sorry... I am..."
The village apologized on behalf of Kara.
"Late at night, I’ve thought about countless ways that I would experiment on you. I’ll start with your fingers and slowly work my way up your body until there’s nothing left."
Devon said with a smile, and then he tossed the table aside and moved the chair closer to the village girl until their knees touched.
Tears streamed down the village girl’s face, and she pleaded.
"I-I don’t t-think I w-want to play anymore..."
Devon traced his finger across the village girl’s neck and slowly moved it down to her chest, like he was imagining his finger to be a knife.
In that moment.
His green eyes started glowing, and he started seeing things from somebody else’s POV—a person who was standing outside the fortress as a guard.
Through his eyes, he could see a person walking down the forest. A woman with long blue hair and graceful, like a ballerina dancer.
"Dark Blast!"
The woman pointed her hand towards the person whom POV Devon was seeing, and she released a powerful blast of dark energy.
It turned dark.
Devon closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, he was looking straight into the terrified face of the village girl.
"It looks like we’ve been interrupted by an annoying guest. We will continue this fun at a later date, I promise you that."
Devon said with a smile and then dragged the village girl back to the cage and then walked out of the room.
"Soldiers of Devon, arise."
In that moment, Devon spread his arms wide like he was embracing an invisible deity, and at that moment, ’things’ started rising from the ground.
Creaking skeletons. Their bones were glowing green, like they were radioactive. Close to a hundred of them rose from the ground and knelt to Devon.
"Find the intruder and bring her to me. Do this for Devon. As Devon forever, and evermore will be your king."
The creaking skeletons slowly began to stand up and shuffle away in search of the intruder.
"For I am Devon."
He said with a cold look in his eyes.
...
A camera flew through the thick forest, dodging the branches as it followed a black-haired young man.
"The villagers said that the Butcher fortress should be somewhere around here."
Fang Raon said, but he felt like he was quite lost, as he had been walking around these forests for a while now.
[LadyBelle: What is that in the distance?]
The camera was higher up at the sky, so it had a better view of the surrounding area, and LadyBelle managed to see something in the distance.
Fang Raon walked over, and as he walked between two trees, he came across a destroyed skeleton.
Its skeleton body was scattered here and there—some bones charred—like they had been burned.
"A skeleton?"
Fang Raon said with a frown, and then, he looked ahead and saw a mysterious door stuck at the wall of a mountain.
’This must be it!’
He thought.
Then, he noticed that the door had a hole in it. Precisely at the location of the lock. It looked burned as well.
’It looks like someone destroyed the door’s lock to unlock it. These burns are still warm. It looks like I am not the only one going after the Butcher.’
Fang Raon thought, and since he had no time to waste, he quickly stepped through the door and entered a ghastly hallway.
It was really dark.
He pulled out a torch from his inventory and lit it.
Even with the torch burning with fire, he could barely see a few meters ahead of him, like he was trying to navigate through a dense fog.
"Can you guys see anything?"
He asked of his chat.
[LadyBelle: Not really]
[JohnsonLaw: Can’t]
[LambPog: Barely]
The camera had built-in night vision, but it also wasn’t some omnipotent tool that allowed them to see everything in the dark.
They couldn’t see any better than Raon!
In that moment, he stepped forward, but his foot did not touch solid ground, and he started falling forward.
’A HOLE?!’
Fang Raon’s eyes widened in a shock, and he started falling into a hole, but then he quickly used Skydance.
’Skydance!’
He started kicking up the air, trying to go back up, but at that moment, the suddenly opened hole closed.
It left him trapped.
"Shit!"
He swung the Blackest Blade with Maxima towards the ceiling, but his attack just bounced off, and a strange green magical circle appeared in the ceiling.
It was protecting it!
’A magic-protected trap!’
Fang Raon thought and looked around and then saw the camera hovering right beside him as it luckily followed him inside the hole.
He fell down to the ground and landed.
"They did warn me of traps."
Fang Raon said with a sigh.
It was at least bright, somewhat. There was light oozing out of crystals embedded in the walls.
He put out the torch and threw it back inside his inventory.
[LadyBelle: There is a tunnel!]
The camera flew towards a tunnel that led, who knew where, and since he got no other choice, he followed it.
The tunnel was short, and soon he was in another room, and he came across a mass grave of glowing-green skeletons!
Dozens of them!
They were also smoking, like they had been burned just recently.
"Dark Blast!"
Out of nowhere, a dark energy blast came hurling towards him, and Fang Raon immediately drew his sword.
"Hard Slash!"
Blackest Blade sliced through the spell.
A leg suddenly came for his face. Raon blocked it with his arm. But it still stung as if he was kicked by a metal leg.
"...Who are you?"
Fang Raon looked at the blue-haired woman, who was mesmerizingly beautiful, like she wasn’t real.
"Are you the Butcher?"
Xiao Yue asked angrily.
