Chapter 381: You Will Pay

"Here. It wasn’t easy to get this one."

A man with a ponytail handed over a card to Devon. It was the game card. A rare sight in Necro Region.

"I’ll pay you well. Do not worry."

Devon said coldly and looked at the game card.

The ponytail-haired man in front of him was a smuggler that visited the mortal lands below once in a while.

And Devon paid him a large sum to smuggle several game cards out of the mortal lands for him to use.

"How is it going with the smuggling of the Virtual Reality Pod?"

Devon asked.

"Like I said before, smuggling an item of that size is hard. I only have small flying car at my disposal. I can’t fit something of that size into my trunk!"

The ponytail-haired man said.

"If you can achieve that, I’ll pay you enough for you to become really rich man so that you can retire early and live a life of luxury."

Devon said.

When the ponytail-haired man heard that, he licked his own lips, and thought about it really, really hard.

It was physically impossible to achieve that as he simply didn’t have enough space in his car to fit the Virtual Reality Pod.

’The weight alone will make it impossible to make back to Necro Region.’

The ponytail-haired man thought with a frown, and then he said to Devon that he will try his best and then turned his heel and walked away.

Devon looked out of the alleyway, where people in golden and silver silk walked by, and then looked back at the game card.

’I will have my revenge, no matter how much pain I have to suffer to achieve that.’

...

Devon walked inside his bedroom. It was a grand, luxurious bedroom. It was located in the Royal Castle of the Rawkshawn Family.

"Your highness, we—"

A servant tried talking to him, but he quickly slammed the door shut right in front of the servant and then walked towards the bookshelf.

He pulled one book, and suddenly, the bookshelf rotated, revealing a hidden room inside the wall of the bedroom.

After stepping inside, the bookshelf closed behind him with a loud bang, and he walked down a spiraling staircase.

At that moment, he arrived in a room with one Virtual Reality Pod in the center—it was an honestly crude-looking machine.

It had no paint on. It was colored like concrete, and it had all sorts of wires poking out like a mechanical octopus.

This was his Virtual Reality Pod. The one that he built all by himself. It wasn’t perfect, but it did the job.

There was only one thing that he couldn’t create on his own, and it was the game card of the Black Online.

Devon inserted the card inside, and the pod let out a humming sound, and then he climbed inside.

He pressed a button.

"Whoo..."

Devon closed his eyes, and out of nowhere, he started having a skull-splitting headache, as if someone was drilling into his brain.

This pain always came when he tried transferring his consciousness to his character in Black Online.

"Come on!"

He shouted.

At that moment, his consciousness traveled out of his body.

...

A half an hour later, First Floor, the Starting City.

Swoosh~!

Devon appeared in the city square.

It took him half an hour to decide on his class, and stuff—he again chose Mage class.

’Right, I don’t have the legacy anymore. Because of that bastard.’

Devon thought with a frown.

The first floor was as busy as ever. Players and locals walked all around, talking, dealing, and playing games.

"Hmph."

Devon scoffed, and turned on his heel, and started heading in the direction of the Adventurer’s Guild, as he immediately had to start to make some money.

He planned to do few quests, and while at it, kill any player he found outside the city limits—it was the fastest way to get strong and get good items.

Mage was especially good at early game.

In that moment, Devon walked past a group of players, who watched him walk by and seemed to recognize him.

"...Hey, isn’t that... him?"

"...Who?"

"...That green-haired guy. It’s that Devon guy from the video, right? The bastard who has been experimenting on all those players over at the 17th floor."

"...Yeah, he looks exactly like him!"

The players exchanged a gaze and then started following behind Devon and saw him head straight for the Adventurer’s Guild.

"Hey, man!"

One of them shouted for Devon, and he stopped walking with a frown etched on his face, and then he turned around.

His expression said, "Are they talking to me?"

"You’re Devon, aren’t you?"

The player asked with a smirk.

’How do they know me?’

Devon thought to himself.

"Who the hell are you?"

He asked.

"It’s really him, haha."

The player laughed, and at that moment, he pulled out a dagger from his waist, and his friends also pulled their weapons.

"This is for Xiao Yue, you bastard!"

The player lunged with the dagger, taking Devon by surprise, and he quickly used Read to dodge the strike.

"Fireball!"

A fireball shot out of his hand and slammed into the face of the player, but then one of his friends burst through with a sword in hand.

The sword cut through the air and struck Devon in the shoulder so hard that his arm almost fell off.

"Aaarggggh!"

Devon cried out in pain, and he fell down on his knee, and then the players stabbed him in the chest.

"Kyaaa!"

The locals, who saw that, screamed, and started running away, and the players all around them were surprised.

They didn’t expect to see someone attacking inside Safe Zone, so they believed that this green-haired guy must’ve really pissed them off.

"Cough... Why..."

Devon coughed out blood and asked with a painful look in his eyes.

The player grabbed him by the hair and made him look directly into his eyes.

"You think you can just walk these streets with no consequences, bastard? You know what you did on the 17th floor.

"And I promise you this. You will pay for it."

And then, the player cut his head off, and for Devon, everything turned dark, and even in his last moments, he was still wondering what the hell was going on.
