Chapter 90: Chapter 90 — The Monkey’s Honor
Chapter 90 — The Monkey’s Honor
Victor and Monkasa could be seen struggling to leave the restaurant.
Monkasa had definitely drunk a little too much banana wine.
He leaned heavily against Victor, forcing Victor to support most of his weight as they made their way through the village.
Victor himself hadn’t expected the banana wine to be nearly as strong as it was.
He wouldn’t say he was impaired.
But his vision was definitely a little hazy.
As they walked through the treehouse village, Monkasa suddenly hiccupped.
"Hic..."
Victor glanced at him.
Monkasa mumbled something under his breath.
Victor almost didn’t catch it.
"Victor..."
"Hm?"
"You’re the best..."
A warm smile briefly appeared on Victor’s face.
Monkasa really was quite likable.
Victor had only known him for a short time, but that much was already obvious.
Eventually, they reached Monkasa’s house.
Victor helped him inside and guided him toward the hammock.
Monkasa quickly settled into it, practically snuggling into the woven material.
Within seconds, he was snoring.
Victor stood there for a moment, staring at him.
Then he shook his head with a quiet laugh.
He turned around, walked out, and closed the door behind him.
Victor stood outside.
Then he looked around.
He paused.
Wait.
Now he had to remember where his house was.
Victor looked down one path.
Then another.
Nothing looked particularly familiar.
He began walking.
After several minutes, Victor started to wonder if he had somehow gotten himself lost.
Eventually, he spotted a wooden house that looked familiar.
His eyes brightened.
That’s it.
Finally.
Victor walked toward it, relieved that he had found his house.
He reached the door, opened it, and stepped inside.
Then he froze.
Something was wrong.
This wasn’t his house.
Victor’s eyes slowly moved across the room.
A female Lava Rock Monkey was sitting at a small dinner table, eating her meal.
And for the first time since arriving in the village, Victor saw a female monkey with her ears uncovered.
He stared.
She stared back.
Neither moved.
Victor’s expression slowly became confused.
He had absolutely no idea what he had just walked into.
Then the female monkey screamed.
"AHHHHH!"
Victor’s eyes widened.
"No, no, no, no! I’m sorry!"
He immediately backed toward the door.
"I’m very, very sorry!"
Victor pulled the door shut and ran.
He didn’t stop until he was several houses away.
He stood there for a moment, breathing heavily.
What the hell just happened?
Victor spent another fifteen or twenty minutes carefully searching for his house.
This time, he was afraid to simply walk inside.
Eventually, he found it.
Victor stood outside the door for a moment before cautiously opening it.
He stepped inside.
It was his house.
Victor closed the door behind him.
The embarrassment from what had just happened had sobered him up incredibly fast.
He sat down on the floor for a moment and rubbed his face.
I can’t believe I just did that.
Victor eventually sighed.
He had originally planned to cultivate for a few hours before going to sleep.
Victor sat cross-legged.
He began cultivating.
The fire-dense Spiritual Energy of the region flowed toward him, gradually entering his body and being refined.
After about an hour, Victor opened his eyes.
Victor stood and walked toward the hammock.
He climbed inside.
His head touched the soft material.
Within moments, he fell asleep.
The next morning, Victor woke with a slight headache.
He opened his eyes slowly.
That banana wine was stronger than I thought.
A knock came from the door.
Victor sighed and climbed out of the hammock.
He walked over and opened it.
Monkasa stood outside.
His usual toothy grin greeted Victor.
"It’s time for training. Are you ready?"
Victor nodded.
"Yeah, I’m ready."
He quickly grabbed a basin of water and rinsed his face.
Then he slicked his hair back before following Monkasa out.
The two made their way toward the training grounds.
As soon as they arrived, Victor looked toward Monkasa.
"Can you show me a few tips with the Monkey Fist?"
Monkasa’s large grin returned.
"Of course. I’d love to."
He immediately began demonstrating.
"Watch."
Monkasa moved his feet.
Step.
Step.
Step.
His body swayed with each movement.
His arms moved naturally with his steps as Spiritual Energy began gathering around him.
He continued demonstrating the process, allowing Victor to watch carefully.
"The goal is to use the movement to build momentum."
Monkasa stepped again.
His body swayed from one side to the other.
"The more you move, the more energy you gather."
Another step.
Another shift.
The Spiritual Energy around his body began twisting.
"It should start moving like this."
The energy spiraled around his body, forming the beginnings of a tornado.
Monkasa’s movements became more fluid.
"You want all that energy to eventually converge here."
He raised his fist.
The swirling energy gathered around it.
"And when your final step connects..."
Monkasa punched forward.
The Spiritual Energy surged around his fist.
"You release it."
Victor watched carefully.
Monkasa repeated the process several times, breaking down the movement step by step.
Victor attempted to mimic him.
Step.
Step.
Step.
He shifted his weight.
Again.
Step.
Step.
Step.
Victor continued practicing.
He was beginning to understand the movement better, but he still couldn’t properly recreate the swirling flow of Spiritual Energy.
Then a commotion came from behind him.
Victor stopped.
Monkasa looked in the same direction.
Someone was approaching them.
A Lava Rock Monkey was walking toward them with an expression that immediately caught Victor’s attention.
He stood around five and a half feet tall and was completely bald. He had a muscular build and an angry expression that made it look like he was ready to tear someone apart.
Victor frowned.
Who is this guy?
The monkey continued toward them.
His eyes were locked directly onto Victor.
Monkasa’s expression changed.
He recognized him.
"Monkbala. What’s the matter?"
Monkbala didn’t even look at Monkasa.
"Stay out of this, Monkasa."
His eyes remained fixed on Victor.
Then he stopped directly in front of him.
"Are you the human that barged into my sister’s house last night?"
Victor paused.
He immediately understood.
"Yes. I’m sorry. I was lost and thought it was my house."
"That doesn’t matter."
Monkbala’s expression darkened.
"You saw her ears?"
Victor blinked.
He looked at Monkasa.
Monkasa was staring at him with a surprised expression.
Victor looked back at Monk Bala.
"I..."
He hesitated.
"Yeah. I saw her ears last night."
Monkbala’s expression became even more sour.
Victor was completely baffled.
He still didn’t understand what was going on.
Monkbala stared at him.
"Seeing a female monkey’s ears is supposed to be saved for marriage."
Victor’s eyes widened slightly.
"And now that you’ve seen her ears, you’re going to have to marry her."
Victor froze.
What?
He looked at Monkbala.
Then back at Monkasa.
Only now did the strange behavior he’d noticed throughout the village begin making sense.
Every female monkey he’d seen had covered her ears.
Every single one.
And the woman from last night had been the first female monkey whose ears he had actually seen.
Victor looked back at Monkbala.
He understood now.
What he had done was considered serious.
But that didn’t change the problem.
He couldn’t marry someone he didn’t know.
Especially because of an accident.
Victor shook his head.
"I’m sorry, but I can’t marry her. I can’t marry somebody I don’t know."
Monkbala’s eyes narrowed.
"That didn’t stop you from looking at her ears last night."
Victor didn’t know what to say.
Monkbala stepped closer.
"If you’re not going to marry her, then you’re going to learn a lesson."
He pointed toward Victor.
"I challenge you according to the Monkey rankings."
Victor’s expression changed.
Monkasa immediately winced.
"Monkbala, come on. You’re ranked forty-five."
He looked between the two.
"Victor didn’t mean to walk into your sister’s house and see her ears. Can’t you cut him a break?"
"Shut up, Monkasa."
Monkbala’s voice was firm.
"This human is going to learn a lesson."
He turned away from them.
Then he walked toward one of the wooden fighting platforms.
He climbed onto it and turned around.
His eyes locked onto Victor.
"Get up here."
Victor stared at him.
Monkbala’s expression didn’t change.
"Now."
