Chapter 92 — Recovery

Victor awoke two days later.

His entire body ached.

He slowly looked down at himself.

Bandages covered nearly every part of his body, wrapping around his arms, chest, and legs.

Victor took a moment to prepare himself before attempting to get out of the hammock.

He shifted his weight.

Then carefully rolled himself out.

His body dropped toward the floor.

He landed on his hands and knees.

A surge of pain immediately shot through his entire body.

Victor gritted his teeth.

Damn.

He remained there for several seconds, allowing the pain to settle.

It was obvious.

It was going to be a few days before he could properly move again, let alone return to training the Monkey Fist.

The realization irritated him.

The more Victor thought about it, the angrier he became.

Then his thoughts turned toward Monkbala.

His expression darkened.

That bastard had nearly killed me.

Victor wasn’t going to forget that.

When he was strong enough, he would return the favor.

For now, he simply filed Monkbala away as another problem he would have to deal with eventually.

Victor slowly rolled onto his back.

Even that movement hurt.

He eventually managed to sit up and crossed his legs.

If he couldn’t train his body, there was still something he could do.

Cultivate.

Victor closed his eyes.

Spiritual Energy slowly gathered around him.

The fire-dense energy of the region flowed into his body, filling his Core and gradually easing the strain on his body.

Victor spent most of the day cultivating.

Every bit of Spiritual Energy helped.

As the hours passed, the pain slowly became more manageable.

Victor continued until he heard the door open.

He opened his eyes.

Monkasa walked inside.

A large smile appeared on his face when he saw Victor.

"Victor, you’re awake!"

Monkasa walked over and sat down across from him.

Victor looked at him.

"Hey, Monkasa. What happened?"

Monkasa blinked.

"You took one nasty beating, dude."

He shook his head.

"Monkbala is one feisty monkey."

Victor remained silent.

"But at the end there, he was being a bit of a poop thrower."

Victor stared at him.

For a moment, he didn’t say anything.

Part of him cringed at the way Monkasa had just described another Lava Rock Monkey.

He decided to ignore it.

Victor shifted slightly.

"It’s probably going to be a couple of days before I can get back to training."

He glanced toward the door.

"For now, I guess I’ll just focus on cultivation. Once my body heals up enough, we can get back to the Monkey Fist technique."

"Yeah. That’s probably for the best."

Monkasa smiled.

Then his stomach growled.

He looked toward Victor.

"Are you hungry?"

Victor’s eyes brightened.

"Starving."

Monkasa grinned.

"I’m going to go grab us some food. I’ll be right back."

Victor nodded.

"Alright."

Monkasa immediately walked out the door.

About an hour later, he returned.

Victor’s eyes widened.

Monkasa carried several enormous containers filled with stew.

Steam rose from the food, carrying a rich aroma through the room.

Victor could see chunks of potatoes mixed throughout the thick broth, along with several vegetables he couldn’t identify.

Whatever it was, it smelled incredible.

Victor didn’t hesitate.

The two of them dug in.

By the time they finished, there wasn’t much left.

Victor leaned back slightly.

"That was good."

Monkasa smiled.

"I knew you’d like it."

After they finished eating, Monkasa left the house.

Victor decided it was time to focus on something else.

He still had plenty of things he needed to improve.

For the next few hours, he focused on his Black Flame.

Victor sat down and raised one hand.

A small black flame appeared above his palm.

His eyes narrowed as he focused on it.

He had already reached the maximum amount of time he could maintain a Tier One flame through his current level of soul control.

One minute.

Now he needed to move on to the next stage of training.

Expanding the flame.

Then shrinking it.

Victor began practicing.

The flame grew slightly.

Then became smaller.

He repeated the process.

Again.

And again.

Two hours passed.

Victor eventually noticed something.

Whenever he attempted to manipulate the flame’s size, its duration dropped dramatically.

Instead of lasting close to a minute, the flame would snuff itself out after roughly twenty-three seconds.

Victor stared at the empty space above his palm.

This is going to take a while.

It was simply another skill he needed to master.

Victor stopped practicing after several more attempts.

His attention shifted toward the Black Flame inside him.

It had been a while since he’d visited the Library.

Victor smiled slightly.

Jack is probably going to be annoying about how long it’s been.

He closed his eyes.

His consciousness focused on the Black Flame.

The world around him disappeared.

When Victor opened his eyes again, he stood inside the Library.

Towering shelves stretched endlessly in every direction.

Books filled the shelves as far as he could see, disappearing into the distance beneath the vastness of the Library.

Victor barely had time to take in the familiar sight.

Jack appeared.

He looked at Victor with a knowing expression.

"Well, look who it is."

Victor smiled.

"Jack."

"Look who the cat dragged in."

Jack crossed his arms.

"I thought you just forgot about me, Victor."

Victor chuckled.

"I know. I’m sorry, Jack. I’ve been very busy. I haven’t had as much time to be in the Library."

Jack waved his hand dismissively.

"Oh, it’s okay."

He paused.

"Its not like it only takes a moment to enter the Library."

Victor gave him a flat look.

"I’ll be spending a lot more time here now."

Jack raised an eyebrow.

"Oh?"

Victor nodded.

"I need to work on the Spirit Accumulation Pill."

His expression became serious.

"I need to get the fusion process completed."

Jack’s expression shifted slightly.

For the first time since Victor had arrived, the teasing disappeared from his face.

"Finally."

Victor nodded.

"Yeah."

He looked toward the endless shelves surrounding them.
