Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen

Chapter 435: Continuous Puppy Conveyor

Chapter 432: Continuous Puppy Conveyor

He let his eyelids flutter shut, sinking perfectly into the ultrasonic hum of the espresso linen, entirely content to float above the burning wreckage of the entertainment ecosystem, completely and flawlessly untouched.

For the next forty-eight minutes, the acoustic levitation field operating beneath the massive fourteen-by-fourteen-foot espresso linen megalith maintained a state of absolute, unyielding zero-gravity perfection. The gentle, low-frequency vibration of the ultrasonic transducers acted as a continuous, cellular-level massage, lulling the entire Harem Council into a state of profound, chemically pure euphoria.

There were no schedules. There were no flashing paparazzi cameras. There was only the soft, rhythmic breathing of the world’s most desired women and the faint, hypnotic white noise of the industrial climate control system.

However, a household operating at the absolute apex of frictionless leisure inevitably seeks out new avenues of entertainment—primarily by observing the agonizing, unnecessary labor of others.

Courteney Cox, swathed in her unbranded charcoal Loro Piana cashmere hoodie, slowly pushed herself up onto her elbows. She carefully navigated the frictionless surface of the hovering sofa, sliding closer to Jennifer Aniston, who was currently holding the encrypted Vanguard tactical tablet.

"Jen," Courteney whispered, her eyes dancing with mischievous, shameless amusement. "We have eradicated the procedural drama, the romantic comedy, and the survivalist documentary. But there is a rapidly growing, highly abrasive genre of television that we have completely ignored."

Alex Turner did not open his obsidian eyes. He remained perfectly centered in the floating pit, his head resting comfortably in Monica Bellucci’s lap. "If the genre involves manual labor, power tools, or the inhalation of drywall dust, Court, it is an aesthetic tragedy. Do not bring construction into my living room."

"It’s the home renovation shows, Alex," Courteney argued softly, gently poking his bicep. "They are incredibly aggressive. A hyper-energetic host bursts into a perfectly functional home, hands the homeowners a sledgehammer, and forces them to demolish their own walls for the sake of an ’open concept.’ It is a horrifying expenditure of caloric energy."

Gillian Anderson let out a husky, cynical laugh, her cheek resting against Alex’s left shoulder. "She’s absolutely right. They literally make the homeowners sweat through their shirts while destroying their own property. It’s an ergonomic nightmare."

"Demolishing a load-bearing wall requires aggressive, repetitive thoracic rotation and severely endangers the lumbar spine," Alex drawled lazily, his deep baritone vibrating smoothly through the hovering cushions. "Furthermore, swinging a sledgehammer generates massive kinetic friction and pollutes the immediate atmosphere with particulate matter. It is barbaric."

Angelina Jolie, previously asleep on his right side, opened one dark eye. "Then fix it, Mr. CEO. Show them how a true apex predator remodels a house."

A slow, predatory smirk pulled at the corners of Alex’s mouth. "Jen. The tablet."

Jennifer giggled, tapping the microphone icon on the ’Ghost Render’ application.

"Prompt," Alex dictated flawlessly into the void, his voice completely devoid of urgency. "Generate a standard, sixty-minute home makeover broadcast. The host is aggressively enthusiastic. The homeowner is a photorealistic digital avatar of Simon Cowell. The host attempts to hand Simon a sledgehammer to demolish a wall. Render the mathematically optimal, zero-friction response. Broadcast immediately to the primary monitor."

The massive, sixty-inch Pioneer rear-projection monitor at the edge of the patio flickered to life. The soft twilight blue of the screensaver faded into a bright, chaotic shot of a suburban living room.

A manic, overly caffeinated television host wearing a hard hat bounded onto the screen. He turned to the digital avatar of Simon Cowell, who was wearing his signature tight t-shirt but looked profoundly, spiritually exhausted.

"Simon! Are you ready to tear down this wall and open up this living space?!" the digital host screamed, shoving a massive, heavy-duty sledgehammer toward the avatar’s chest. "Let’s see some sweat!"

The digital Simon Cowell did not take the sledgehammer. He simply stared at it as if it were a biohazard. He let out a long, heavy, distinctly British sigh.

"Swinging that piece of primitive iron would severely compromise my rotator cuff," the digital Simon whispered, his voice modulated by the AI into a soothing, low-frequency ASMR register. "Furthermore, tearing down that wall removes a critical acoustic barrier. An ’open concept’ simply allows the chaotic noise of the kitchen appliance grid to bleed into the lounge. It is an auditory tragedy."

The digital host blinked, his programmed enthusiasm stalling. "But... the natural light! The flow of the room!"

"Natural light creates an unaesthetic glare on the television screen," the digital Simon corrected smoothly, turning his back on the host and walking toward a plush, velvet sofa. "We will not be demolishing the architecture today. We will simply close the blinds, upgrade the thread count of these throw pillows to Egyptian cotton, and take a nap. Please lower your voice; you are spiking my cortisol."

The digital Simon Cowell lay down on the sofa, pulled a blanket over his face, and went completely motionless.

The camera held on the host, who stood awkwardly in the dimly lit room, holding a sledgehammer, entirely unsure of how to proceed.

In the Trousdale living room, the Harem Council completely lost their composure. Mariah Carey buried her face in the espresso linen, shaking with breathless, hysterical laughter.

"You turned a home makeover show into a hostage situation!" Mariah wheezed. "The host is just standing there! He doesn’t know what to do!"

"The machine is functioning perfectly, Mary," Alex noted seamlessly, his real eyes still closed. "The AI recognized that the most efficient way to improve a home is to simply lie down and ignore its flaws. We are saving the American public millions of dollars in unnecessary drywall repairs."

"It’s a masterpiece of aggressive apathy," Monica purred, her fingers gently massaging Alex’s temples. "You just humiliated the entire interior design industry by proving that a nap is superior to an open floor plan."

Before they could further dissect the complete ideological collapse of the Home and Garden network, a strange, rhythmic clicking sound drifted down the teakwood hallway.

The heavy soundproof doors slid open.

Snoop Dogg and Keanu Reeves glided into the living room on their magnetic levitation cushions. However, they were flanking a completely new, utterly absurd piece of Vanguard machinery.

Running alongside their hover-pads was a sleek, waist-high, frictionless conveyor belt, entirely upholstered in the same ultra-soft Loro Piana cashmere as the living room sofa.

"Nephew," Snoop drawled smoothly, a cloud of fragrant smoke trailing behind him as he executed a flawless parking maneuver. "Me and Keanu were discussing the therapeutic benefits of canine companionship. But we realized that leaning over to pet a dog requires an unacceptable degree of spinal flexion."

"And picking them up engages the deltoids," Keanu added softly, floating upside down with profound, zen-like serenity. "It’s a kinetic tragedy, Alex. We wanted to experience the joy of a puppy without the administrative burden of bending our torsos."

Alex opened one eye, looking at the cashmere conveyor belt. "Snoop, what did you command the engineering division to build?"

"The ’Continuous Puppy Conveyor,’ King," Snoop grinned lazily.

Snoop tapped a button on his remote. The cashmere belt began to move with a silent, steady hum.

A moment later, from a small, climate-controlled opening in the hallway wall, a perfectly clean, impossibly fluffy, heavily sedated Golden Retriever puppy rolled slowly into the living room. The puppy was fast asleep on its back, gliding smoothly along the conveyor belt at exactly two miles per hour.

"The puppies are thoroughly bathed, fed, and placed into a state of optimal, post-meal lethargy," Snoop explained reverently. "The belt brings them directly past the edge of the sofa at arm’s level. You don’t have to reach. You don’t have to bend. You just extend your hand, let the soft fur pass under your palm, and the belt carries them back to the Vanguard handlers in the East Wing for their scheduled naps."

Gillian Anderson sat up, her eyes wide with a mixture of sheer disbelief and overwhelming delight.

A second puppy rolled into view, followed closely by a third, creating a slow, majestic, continuous loop of sleeping Golden Retrievers.

"You built a sushi conveyor belt, but for sleeping dogs," Angelina breathed, immediately extending her hand over the edge of the floating megalith. The incredibly soft fur of a passing puppy brushed gently against her palm. She closed her eyes, a soft hum of absolute euphoria escaping her lips. "This is it. This is the peak of human civilization. Cancel everything else."

"It is a highly efficient delivery system for oxytocin," Alex nodded approvingly, watching the parade of sleeping canines drift past. "Animals are inherently chaotic, but by standardizing their trajectory and ensuring they are asleep, we have mathematically extracted their therapeutic value without enduring their frantic energy. Well done, Snoop."

"We do it for the people, King," Snoop chuckled.

Suddenly, the heavy Motorola brick phone on the teakwood tray emitted its silent, red visual strobe alert.

Alex let out a low, resonant groan. "The external universe possesses a terrifying inability to process a Saturday afternoon."

Jennifer, laughing softly at the passing puppies, reached out and pressed the phone to her ear. She listened for three seconds, her eyebrows shooting up. She hit the speakerphone button and dropped the device onto the cushions.

"Make it brief, Richard," Alex commanded smoothly. "Angelina is currently engaged in zero-friction canine therapy, and I do not wish to break her concentration."

"I apologize, Mr. Turner, but the real-world fallout from the ’Ghost Render’ broadcast is simply too historic," Richard Vance Jr.’s voice crackled through the speaker, vibrating with dark, Ivy League ecstasy. "The Home Improvement Television Network just aired the Sanctuary Makeover pilot. The actual, physical host of the show just filed his resignation on live television."

"Did he finally realize the futility of manual labor?" Alex asked lazily.

"He did, sir," Richard laughed. "He threw his sledgehammer into a dumpster and stated that he is officially retiring to a beanbag chair. But the true victory is the network executives. They are terrified that the public will stop buying power tools. They just offered Tyrant Group LLC fifty million dollars to formally endorse a line of ’Sanctuary-Approved’ memory-foam reclining chairs instead of remodeling materials."

The living room fell into a stunned, delighted silence before erupting into chaotic laughter.

"Tell the network we accept the fifty million," Alex smirked lazily, settling his head back into Monica’s lap. "But the chairs must not possess any manual levers. Reclining must be entirely voice-activated. Unplug your switchboard, Richard. I am returning to the void."

"Flawless execution, sir. Have a wonderful weekend."

The line clicked dead. The corporate world was actively cannibalizing its own construction tropes, television hosts were surrendering their tools, and a continuous loop of sleeping puppies was slowly orbiting the living room.

Alex shifted his weight slightly on the floating megalith. Angelina and Gillian slid effortlessly against his sides. He pulled them closer, the ambient white noise of the climate control washing over him. The perimeter was secure. The home renovation industry had been permanently pacified. He let his eyelids flutter shut, sinking perfectly into the ultrasonic hum of the espresso linen, entirely content to float above the burning wreckage of the entertainment ecosystem, completely and flawlessly untouched.
