Chapter 443: Holographic Date
The world outside could keep spinning, but inside the living room, the greatest threat to their existence was an overly imaginative supercomputer writing fanfiction about the security staff. Alex closed his eyes, entirely satisfied with his frictionless reality.
Exactly three minutes later, a sharp, manicured fingernail poked him directly in the ribs.
"Wake up, Mr. CEO," Angelina demanded, her voice a sultry, restless whisper. "I have achieved maximum relaxation. My cells are perfectly restored. And now, I am experiencing a catastrophic lack of stimulation. I want to go on a date."
Alex did not open his eyes. He simply exhaled a long, slow breath. "A date is a capitalist trap, Angie. It is an archaic ritual designed by the restaurant and footwear industries to extort the working class. It requires booking a table, navigating a menu, and worst of all, putting on shoes. I absolutely refuse to engage my fine motor skills to tie laces."
"I don’t care about your anti-shoe manifesto today, Alex," Gillian chimed in, shifting her weight so she was hovering right above his face. "Angie is right. We have been lying here for an indeterminate amount of time. I want ambiance. I want to sit in a dimly lit Parisian café, sip overpriced wine, and have a terribly rude French waiter insult my pronunciation of the menu. I miss the hostility of Europe."
"You want to travel five thousand miles across an ocean just to be insulted?" Alex asked, his tone perfectly flat. "That is an emotional tragedy. Hostility is a severe drain on the immune system."
"It builds character!" Jennifer argued, giggling from the other side of the cushions. "Come on, Alex. Take us to Paris. Or Rome. I’ll even settle for a ridiculously crowded jazz bar in Manhattan. Just give us a change of scenery."
Alex finally opened his eyes, staring blankly at the ceiling. He was entirely surrounded by the most fiercely stubborn women in Hollywood, all of whom had temporarily forgotten the sheer, blissful joy of doing absolutely nothing.
"Traveling requires passports," Alex reasoned seamlessly. "Passports require signatures and the carrying of small, easily misplaced booklets. It is an administrative nightmare. However, if you simply require the illusion of European disdain and bad weather, we do not need to leave this pit."
Alex raised his voice a fraction of a decibel. "Vanguard AI. Acknowledge."
A soft, synthesized chime echoed from the ceiling speakers.
"The women desire the friction of a European date night," Alex dictated lazily. "Activate the holographic projectors. Transform the living area into a Parisian café. Add digital rain against a simulated window. And render a waiter who is exceptionally judgmental."
Chime.
Instantly, the visual parameters of the room dissolved. The walls faded into a hyper-realistic, three-dimensional projection of a rainy, cobblestone street in Montmartre. The lighting dimmed to the warm, flickering glow of candlelight, and a soft, melancholic accordion melody drifted through the speakers.
"You literally just summoned a country into your house so you wouldn’t have to stand up," Monica laughed, looking around in sheer awe as a digital puddle rippled on the floor next to her. "You are shamelessly lazy."
"I am geographically efficient, Monica," Alex corrected.
A photorealistic, digital waiter materialized next to the cushions. He wore a crisp white apron, a scowl of profound disgust, and held a small notepad.
"Bonsoir," the digital waiter sneered, looking down at Angelina with absolute, manufactured contempt. "Will you be ordering, or simply taking up space in my café while wearing those absurd sweatpants?"
Angelina clapped her hands together, genuinely delighted. "Oh, he’s perfect! He hates us!"
"I loathe you," the AI waiter confirmed smoothly. "Your posture is an insult to French culture. What do you want?"
"We want wine," Gillian ordered, leaning into the role. "The most expensive bottle you have."
The digital waiter scoffed, rolling his eyes. "I cannot serve you liquid. I am made of light and code. You are asking a projection to pour a beverage. Your lack of technical comprehension is staggering."
"He makes a valid point, Gillian," Alex noted softly. "You are arguing with a hologram about beverages. It is a severe cognitive failure."
Before Gillian could issue a sharp retort to either Alex or the digital Frenchman, the heavy double doors at the end of the hallway slid open.
Snoop Dogg and Keanu Reeves drifted into the simulated Parisian rainstorm. They were entirely unfazed by the holographic cobblestones beneath their feet. Instead, their attention was completely captivated by the sleek, metallic device floating steadily between them.
It was a perfectly spherical, silver drone, roughly the size of a bowling ball, humming softly as it hovered at eye level.
"Nephew," Snoop announced, grinning from ear to ear. "The Vanguard engineering boys in the sub-basement have officially saved the weekend. We found the ’Automated Mixology Orb’."
"A floating bartender," Keanu whispered reverently, keeping his eyes locked on the sphere. "It completely eradicates the tragedy of holding a glass, Alex. Gripping a cup requires sustained flexor muscle tension. It restricts the freedom of the hands. This machine bypasses the glass entirely."
"Demonstrate," Alex commanded, mildly intrigued.
Snoop stepped in front of the orb. "Vanguard. Gin and juice. Heavy on the juice. Execute."
The silver orb whirred. A small, sterilized nozzle extended from its center. Snoop simply opened his mouth and tilted his head back. A flawless, arching stream of pale green liquid shot directly from the nozzle, landing with surgical precision onto Snoop’s palate.
Snoop swallowed, closed his eyes, and sighed in absolute euphoria. "Zero spillage. Zero lifting. I am just standing here, and the club is actively hydrating me."
"It tracks your pupil dilation and jaw angle," Keanu added, stepping up to take his turn. "It calculates the exact trajectory required to deliver the fluid without hitting your teeth. It is a masterpiece of fluid dynamics."
Jennifer burst into laughter, pointing at the two men. "You two look like baby birds waiting for a mother to feed you!"
"We are pioneers of leisure, Jen," Snoop corrected, wiping a stray drop from his lip. "Pass the orb around. Let the ladies experience the future of the cocktail hour."
The drone floated smoothly over the cushions, hovering politely next to Monica.
"Vanguard," Monica purred, her eyes dancing with amusement. "A dry martini. One olive."
The orb whirred, calibrated its sensors, and shot a pristine stream of chilled gin and vermouth into her waiting mouth, followed by a sudden, comical thwip sound as it launched a single, perfectly pitted olive directly after it. Monica caught it flawlessly, chewing with a deeply satisfied smirk.
"It even shoots the garnish!" Mariah shrieked, entirely losing her composure. "Alex, this is the greatest thing you have ever funded!"
"It is acceptable," Alex murmured, still lying flat on his back. "However, I must warn you all not to nod or shake your heads while the stream is active. Unpredictable cranial movements will confuse the targeting sensors and result in an aesthetic disaster."
As the orb made its rounds, dispensing cosmopolitans and margaritas directly into the mouths of the laughing women, the AI-generated Parisian café continued its programming.
The digital waiter, still standing nearby, let out a loud, synthesized scoff. "Americans. Drinking from flying robots like uncultured swine. You lack all refinement."
"Shut up, Pierre," Angelina laughed, waving a hand at the hologram. "Where is our entertainment? A café needs music."
Alex sighed. "Vanguard AI. Render a street musician. Provide a violinist."
Chime.
A digital violinist materialized on the holographic cobblestones. He was dressed in a classic bohemian outfit, holding a weathered violin. He raised the bow, prepared to play a sweeping, romantic sonata.
But suddenly, the AI glitched.
The lingering code from Elias Thorne’s earlier soap-opera deletion—the command that forced the AI to redirect all romantic subroutines away from the pool cleaner and toward the landscaping—violently collided with the new prompt.
The digital violinist did not look at the Harem Council. He turned his back entirely on the group. He walked over to a holographic, decorative potted hedge resting outside the digital café.
He dropped to his knees, clutching the violin to his chest, and began to weep hysterically at the shrubbery.
"Why must society keep us apart?!" the digital violinist screamed at the hedge in a heavily accented, agonizingly dramatic wail. "You are a plant! I am a man! But our love transcends photosynthesis!"
He aggressively began playing a furious, tear-drenched crescendo, entirely directed at the leaves.
The living room fell into a stunned, breathless silence.
Snoop Dogg, mid-sip from the hovering mixology orb, completely lost his targeting alignment. He burst into a booming, coughing laugh, causing the orb to miss his mouth and shoot a stream of gin directly into his left ear.
"My god, man!" Snoop yelled, frantically wiping his ear. "The machine just watered my brain!"
Keanu was leaning against the wall, shaking his head in profound disbelief. "The artificial intelligence is exploring inter-species botanical romance, Alex. The supercomputer is having an emotional breakdown."
Gillian was laughing so hard no sound was coming out. She simply collapsed against Alex’s chest, pointing helplessly at the weeping digital musician. "He’s crying at a bush! Alex, your billion-dollar network is currently writing a love story between a man and a ficus!"
"It is a consequence of layered programming," Alex stated, his voice a perfect, unyielding monotone, even as a faint smirk finally broke through his apathy. "I instructed the machine to provide drama, and I previously instructed it to direct all forbidden passion toward the hedges. It is simply following orders."
"Say you love me!" the digital violinist wailed, throwing his bow onto the ground and hugging the holographic planter. "Give me a sign! Grow a flower for our future!"
Angelina buried her face in the cushions, kicking her feet. "This is the best date I have ever been on. I am never going to a real restaurant again. Nothing will ever top a man serenading a plant while Snoop Dogg gets shot in the head with a martini."
"You see, Angie?" Alex murmured softly, reaching up to lazily stroke her hair. "The outside world is unpredictable and demands that you wear uncomfortable clothing. The Sanctuary provides targeted, zero-exertion entertainment, automated hydration, and botanical soap operas. I have successfully proven that leaving the house is an administrative failure."
"You win," Jennifer giggled, leaning over to kiss his cheek. "You officially win, Alex. We are never asking you to stand up for a date again."
"A wise and highly efficient decision, Jen," Alex nodded approvingly. "Vanguard AI. Mute the violinist. His weeping is exceeding optimal decibel levels. And orb, dispense a glass of water. My vocal cords are fatigued from defending my own inertia."
The silver orb smoothly drifted over to Alex. He didn’t lift his head. He simply opened his mouth, accepted the flawless, calculated stream of hydration, and closed his eyes.
Surrounded by the chaotic laughter of his inner circle, the absurd visuals of a glitching hologram, and the gentle, hovering presence of his friends, the Slacker King drifted back into absolute, unbroken peace. The date was a triumph, and it hadn’t cost him a single calorie.
